Chapter 12: The Girl Thirteen
When Xiao Sa and the others were still surviving in the thrilling game, on the other side of the world, on an island, a huge building complex was erected.
Inside the complex, the door of a house is slid open, and Thirteen knows it's time to face death.
She stared at the guard's shoes, embracing the fear that came upon her, like a flood of despair. But when she left the sweat-soaked folding bed, raised her elbows, and took off her shirt, all she could feel was a relief.
She was transferred to a single room for assaulting a guard, but for Thirteen, loneliness was not hers. Voices surrounded her, calling out from the dark corners of her cell, filling the only silence between the beats of her heart, screaming in the deepest, most peaceful places in her mind. Death wasn't what she craved, but if it was the only way to silence the voices, she was ready to die.
In such a country that cannot be called a country, she is detained for treason, but the truth is worse than everyone can imagine. Even though she was just a teenage girl, no one cared if she was wronged or not, just quietly held in a cell, waiting for execution.
The guard cleared his throat: "Prisoner No. 131, please come out." ”
Thirteen took a deep breath and stood up.
"Hold your head tightly." He said, taking a metal rod out of the pocket of his blue uniform, his skin brushed over Thirteen, and Thirteen shuddered. After arriving in this new cell, he never saw anyone else, let alone touched anyone.
"Is it too tight?" He asked.
There was a sympathy in his abrupt voice, and the other thirteen felt a pang of heartache, it had been a long time since no one had shown her sympathy, since she had left the arms of her parents.
She shook her head.
"Sit down on the bed, the doctor is already on his way."
"They're coming?" Thirteen asked, her voice a little hoarse, the words choked in his throat.
If the doctor comes, it means that she is about to be executed. This shouldn't have come as a surprise. According to the laws of the Apocalypse Society, once found guilty of treason, it will be executed, and the disaster will be caused to the family, and in the case of minors, it will be executed at the age of 18!
What a cruel truth that the sins committed by parents need to be borne by such a young girl, but no one will say anything, because, on this island, the Apocalypse Society is their god.
Still, she couldn't believe they were going to be executed in her cell. Though she felt the thought was a little twisted, she looked forward to walking to the hospital one last time, the same place she had spent in her medical training, to feel the familiar smells one last time before losing her senses forever, just the sanitizer and the humming ventilation system.
The guard avoided her eyes and said, "I need you to sit down"
Thirteen took a few steps and sat stiffly on the edge of the narrow bed. Even though she knew that loneliness would distort her perception of time, she still couldn't believe that she had been here for nearly 6 years.
There is no other explanation. Today is her 18th birthday, and the only gift is an anesthetic syringe that will stop her heart beating. After that, her lifeless body will be thrown into the sea, and she will be left to float in the endless ocean.
A slender man walked in. Despite his gray, shoulder-length hair covering the pin on his lab coat, Thirteen didn't need a badge to recognize him as the chief medical advisor to the council.
She often followed Dr. Watson as a child, and his lab was her best playground. Because he was his parents' best friend, after knowing that her parents had been convicted of treason.
"Hello, Thirteen." He said euphemistically, as if greeting her in the lab, "How are you doing?"
"I want to be much better than I was a few minutes later."
Dr. Watson used to be known for the size of Thirteen's black humor, but this time he didn't. He turned to the guards and said, "Can you untie her shackles and give us some time?" ”
The guard struggled, "I'm not allowed to do this. ”
"You can wait outside the door." Dr. Watson said patiently. "She's an unarmed 17-year-old and I feel like I can keep the situation under my control."
The guard once again avoided Thirteen's eyes as he removed the handcuffs, and he handed the handcuffs to Dr. Watson.
"You mean an unarmed 18-year-old." Thirteen said with a smile as much as he could. "Or have you become one of those mad scientists, I don't know how long it has been?"
She thought of her father, the man who had the best relationship with her father, but now she and her father had embarked on two paths.
"You're still seventeen, thirteen." Dr. Watson said calmly and slowly, just as he used to treat patients who had just woken up from surgery. "You've been isolated for 6 years. ”
"But I'm not 18 yet! Didn't I say I can't be executed right now! ”
"Plans have changed, that's the only thing I'm allowed to say."
"So you're allowed to execute me, but you're not allowed to talk to me?" Thirteen remembers Dr. Watson during her parents' interrogation. At that time, she could see the reluctance to veto on his melancholy face, but now she was not sure.
He didn't defend her parents at that time, no one did. When his parents were judged treason by the members of the Apocalypse Society, no one but a few stood up to speak, and he, his father's best friend, sat there speechless.
"What did you do to my parents? Do you kill them too? Right? ”
Dr. Watson closed his eyes, as if the words of Thirteen had been transformed into strange images. "I'm not here to kill you," he said calmly, opening his eyes and gesturing to the chair next to Thirteen's bed, "Is that okay?" ”
Thirteen didn't answer, and Dr. Watson walked over and sat down, his face facing her. "Can I look at your hands?" Thirteen's heart tightened, forcing himself to breathe. He's lying. Cruel and twisted, but in a minute, it will all be over.
Dr. Watson took her hand, and Thirteen shuddered.
"Don't worry, it won't hurt you."
Thirteen closed his eyes.
"I'll see you soon, Mommy, Daddy."
Thirteen sensed something in her hand, and she opened her eyes and glanced at Dr. Watson quizzically.
"Alright, you're all set."
Dr. Watson suddenly reached out and touched Thirteen's blonde hair.
"This is your mother's necklace, I think it should be returned to its original owner, for a girl, it is really cruel for you to bear these things."
"My parents were executed for treason, do you really feel cruel?"
"Don't lose this, Thirteen, there are some things that you really want to find out for yourself."
The air froze. At this time, a cold voice came to mind from the loudspeaker in the room, "Dr. Watson, you have been delaying for too long, I order you, do it now!" ”
Thirteen felt a pain in his head and lost consciousness.
