Chapter 8: Diagon Alley (A protagonist without a special wand is not a good protagonist)
Walking out of the door of the Dursleys, Li Yi looked at McGonagall and asked:
"Professor, where are we going?"
Instead of answering him directly, McGonagall stretched out her wand and pointed forward, as if a normal person hailed a taxi.
Then it didn't take long for a bus to appear in front of the two people.
This is the same knight bus that appeared in the third installment of the Harry Potter series.
Conductor Stan Sanpak opens the door and welcomes his customers: "Welcome aboard the Knight Bus and we'll take you wherever you want to go...... Ah, Professor McGonagall. Is this a new Hogwarts student? ”
Obviously, the conductor knew McGonagall, after all, most of the wizards here were from Hogwarts, and McGonagall had been teaching at Hogwarts for decades.
"He's Sig Ream, I'm taking him to the Leaky Cauldron, he needs a wand of his own." McGonagall replied, introducing Li Yi by the way.
……
The knight's bus stopped not long after it started, and Li Yi followed McGonagall to get off.
Caught between a large bookstore and a record store, a small, filthy and dilapidated pub — the Leaky Cauldron Bar.
"Professor, if I'm not mistaken, we came to a bar? As far as I know, minors are not allowed here. ”
"Oh, Sig. You know, the world of magic is different from Muggles, isn't it? ”
With that, she walked in with Li Yi.
Li Yi found that all the wizards were wearing all kinds of strangely shaped wizard robes, and they seemed to be a little older.
When McGonagall entered, it seemed as if the whole bar had suddenly fallen silent, and all the voices that were talking were gone.
It was the owner of the bar who stepped forward, an old man who looked like a shriveled walnut with almost all his hair falling out, and who looked to be at least in his sixties. However, people in Europe and the United States are old, and they may only be in their fifties.
"Professor McGonagall, you're picking up the freshmen again. Hagrid had just taken Harry Potter to Diagon Alley, and I didn't expect you to come. ”
Li Yi didn't find a stammering young man in a turban in the crowd, and it seemed that Quirrell, the final boss in the first part, had left. Also, apart from Harry Potter, the savior, Voldemort attached to Quirrell's back would not pay attention to any other newborn.
McGonagall didn't say much to the wizards in the bar, and led Li Yi directly to a small patio in the Leaky Cauldron Bar, which was surrounded by those brick walls and overgrown with weeds.
McGonagall looked at Li Yi, whose expression on her face had not changed in the slightest, and suddenly asked, "Kid, aren't you curious about how we can go to the place where we sell wands?" ”
"Oh, Professor, we're definitely going to start here." Lee's answer didn't seem to have anything to do with McGonagall's question.
"What a smart kid."
McGonagall said, picking up her wand and pointing it directly at a point on the wall. With a much more magical attainment than Hagrid, she didn't need to count bricks here.
And just like that, the brick wall seemed to come to life of its own, moving from where McGonagall's wand had been pointed.
It wasn't long before an archway the size of a normal door appeared in front of them. The bustling side of the archway made Li Yi feel like he was gathering in his hometown.
However, at this time, when Hogwarts was about to start, the children who received the admission letter were accompanied by their parents or professors to buy the supplies they needed to study. As a result, this is one of the busiest days of the year in Diagon Lane.
However, I don't know if it's because there are still too few people with magic or because wands don't need to be upgraded, when McGonagall took Leo Yi to Ollivander's wand shop, there was no one else here to buy wands, but the store seemed to be a little messy.
"Oh, Minerva. Is this this this year's freshman? A figure suddenly emerged from the counter in front of him, and he greeted McGonagall familiarly.
"Yes, Ollivanders. I brought him in search of his wand. McGonagall replied.
Ollivander didn't directly start looking for a wand for Leyi, but chatted with McGonagall: "Minerva, just now Hagrid brought Harry here to buy a wand, do you know which wand chose Harry?" ”
Before McGonagall could say anything, Mr. Ollivander began to answer his own question:
"It was a magical thing, holly wood, phoenix feathers, eleven inches long, flexible. What's even more amazing is that that feather actually belongs to the same phoenix as the mysterious man! Harry will be able to accomplish great things in the future. ”
……
After a while, Ollivander finally cleaned it up again, and he pulled out a bunch of wands from the cabinet next to him.
"The wands that have just been tested can't be chosen wizards, maybe you can find your own wand among these first."
As he spoke, Ollivander asked questions about handedness and the like.
Finally, when everything was done, Ollivander pulled one out of the pile.
"Try this, holly, the dragon's heart tendon, nine inches long, very hard."
Li Yi took the wand, waved it lightly, and then the air suddenly became quiet, not because he had cast any silent magic, but because he didn't seem to be able to make any movement at all.
"Oh, it looks like this one isn't for you. Then try this, birch, unicorn hair, nine and a half inches long, very flexible. ”
He took out a new one from the previous pile of wands and handed it to Li Yi.
Li Yi waved lightly, originally thinking that it would be the same ending as the previous one, but the shelf behind Ollivander fell apart directly.
Ollivander didn't seem to care about that, though, and he was always delighted by the fact that the guests were searching for their wands.
"Tsk, another discerning guest. Let me see...... Oh, try that! ”
Try to try Ollivander suddenly seemed to think of something, directly left McGonagall and Li Yi here, and then hurried through the small door behind the counter, as if he thought of a wand that was especially suitable for Li Yi.
Li Yi only saw that there seemed to be more wand boxes in the place where he went. That height could be called a hill.
It wasn't long before Ollivander emerged from the wand warehouse with a large box.
Leaning the box against the side of the cabinet, Ollivander gasped and said to Li Yi: "I don't know if this is suitable for you, but I heard its 'call' for the first time, maybe you are the wizard who mastered it." ”
But Li Yi refused to the situation in front of him.
