Chapter 069: The Gotham Mystery That Ended

Or Gotham.

After several days of hard work, finally taking care of the things in Gotham, Coulson drove his car 'Laura' to the suburbs with a tired face.

Before coming to Gotham, he was tasked with assisting Deathstroke in tracking down a serial murder case related to superpowers. No one would have thought that so many things could happen in just over ten hours. First, the murderer of the serial murder was found to be a mutant saber-toothed tiger, and then it was discovered that the saber-toothed tiger wanted to target Thomas Wayne, the richest man in Gotham, and then learned that there was more than one mutant who came to Gotham, and Thomas Wayne was just one of the small targets that could not be avoided. Things then get more and more complicated, with even the Gotham police and Arkham Asylum being implicated, and the Assassin Alliance, which has been lurking in Gotham for twenty years. In order to compete for the resurrection pool in the hands of the Assassin League, which claims to be able to heal all physical injuries, the Assassin League, Deathknell, and mutants have a big battle, and Coulson's team is inevitably involved. In the end, the war ended in a hurry, with neither the mutants nor the Assassin alliance completely decided, and Deathstroke died in Gotham.

At least on the surface.

For the death of the death knell, Hydra attaches great importance to it internally. Coulson, who was first the deputy on the mission, received more than a dozen phone calls from the agency's top brass that lasted an average of more than 15 minutes, including six from Director John Garrett. Over and over again, Coulson had to answer questions that bothered him, such as how Deathstroke died, how many times he had met Deathbell, whether Deathstroke had mentioned anything, and so on. Coulson, of course, will not tell the truth, but will use ambiguous words to point the killer of Deathknell at one of the most likely answers - mutants.

For the first time, Knell killed more than a dozen mutants, which is a blood feud.

Secondly, with Knell's overall strength and fighting style, someone may be able to defeat him, but not many people can kill him. He is not the kind of stunned young man who rushes forward even though he knows that he is not the opponent of the other party.

Finally, after the examination of the fatal wound in the neck of the death knell, coupled with some analysis of the scene, such as the angle and force of the murder weapon, etc., a rather absurd conclusion can be drawn: the death knell died by 'suicide'. And the only thing that can make this absurd conclusion come true is superpowers. And in Hydra's mutant database, there happen to be one or two who have the superpower to 'convince' Knell to kill him.

Knowing these analyses, Coulson pushed the boat down the river and put the blame on the mutants, anyway, Hydra has always regarded mutants as a big problem, and it is not bad to kill Deathbell. What's more, the mutants know how to hide and have left Gotham.

When it comes to leaving Gotham, Coulson believes that the mutants are also forced to do so. If given the chance, judging by their previous performances, they will definitely continue to fight with the Assassin League. However, since leaving the hidden basement of the Gotham Theater that night, the Assassin League has been broken to pieces under the command of Lei Xiaogu and all of them have left in the night. Mutants simply can't find them. In addition, the death of Death Knell prompted the Hydra Headquarters to transfer Hydra agents from several nearby sub-bases to Gotham, allowing Coulson to launch a city-wide search. In this case, the mutants have no choice but to leave and make another decision.

Let's talk about Lei Xiaogu and those assassins. Originally, Coulson thought that he would be assigned to track down the saber-toothed tiger's abduction of Tony Stark, after all, it happened during his mission, which was under his nose. It turns out that as mentioned above, he is asked to direct this city-wide manhunt for Gotham City. On the surface, the target of the search is the 'real murderer' who killed Knell, and those mutants, at least those Hydra agents were told so. However, in fact, Coulson received repeated instructions from Director John Garrett to find out the whereabouts of Lei Xiaogu.

As a result, Lei Xiaogu could not be found. Coulson had captured several Assassins at Gotham Pier, Gotham Union Station, and Gotham Airport, all of which were the main entrances and exits to Gotham, so if nothing happened, those Assassins were the 'outcasts' released by Lei Xiaogu to divert his attention. And they also did what Lei Xiaogu demanded, and they would rather die than open their mouths. In the end, this city-wide manhunt could only end in nothing. For this reason, Director John Garrett also fired at Coulson in the computer!

Coulson didn't care much about that. Garrett's anger made him guess that the hidden mission that Deathbell was carrying out from him was the Hydra chief. As a spy for S.H.I.E.L.D. lurking inside Hydra, he didn't have much regret or psychological burden about the frustration of Garrett's cherished things. Even in the process of searching for the whole city, Coulson had a guess about Lei Xiaogu's location. It is possible that Thunder made it to Wayne Manor, or secretly left Gotham with the help of Thomas Wayne.

Why did Coulson have such speculation? Because Bruce Wayne disappeared again after being rescued by Rhaegar before, and Wayne Sr. didn't ask for help. If there were no accidents, the elder Wayne finally reached a new agreement with Lei Xiaogu. As for the specific content of the agreement, Coulson is unknown.

He didn't bother to care about that much.

Back at the bus, before the SUV had stopped, he saw that more than ten paces ahead of him, in Fitz and Simmons' lab, the rest of the team had all gathered there again. The teammates gathered there, their faces were heavy, and they didn't say hello or ask about the mission when they saw him come back. They gave up a spot, and Coulson saw Rhaegar in the middle of them, covered in pipes.

Days had passed, and Rhaegar still hadn't woken up.

"Still not?" He asked in a deep voice.

When he left the bus earlier, Fitz and Simmons said that they had come up with a new way to revive Rhaegar up. But now it seems...... Well, Coulson didn't need to ask, apparently they failed again.

"Not even a little bit better?"

Coulson pressed again, only to be met with the expressions of Fitz and Simmons that were almost crying.

"We've tried all the possibilities...... We, we don't know what to do anymore......"

The scene returned to the dead silence before Coulson returned, and it took a while for someone to speak.

"It seems that I am the only one who will tell you the truth that you dare not face." Eyes swept over Coulson, Fitz, Simmons, Skye, and Ward's faces, and May, who had recovered a few days ago and knew what had happened during her coma, said coldly, "Rhaegar has become a vegetative person, and you should accept it in a few days!" ”

Coulson, who was standing there with his arms crossed, Ward, whose upper body was covered with bandages, and Fitz and Simmons, who were snuggled together with red eyes, all fell silent again after glancing at May. Only Skye, with tears in the corners of her eyes, suddenly spoke.

"No, there's another way."
