Chapter 102: Wong Tai Sin Temple
I asked my senior sister, "Who is this Zhixing Daoist, and how can he live next to the Wong Tai Sin Temple?" What's going on with this Wong Tai Sin? ”
Senior sister said, in fact, she also had this question at that time, or later after listening to Shitai, she knew that this Zhixing Taoist is also borrowing the aura of this ancestral hall, and this kind of pill supplemented by the technique of Bigu, in order to reach a higher realm of Taoism.
The Wong Tai Sin Temple, built in 1945, is one of the most famous temples in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Enjoys a prestigious reputation, no one knows, the incense is prosperous, every year on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the citizens have to compete for the head pillar incense. According to legend, the Wong Tai Sin enshrined in the ancestral hall is "responsive" and very effective. The shrine is also the only Taoist temple in Hong Kong where Taoist weddings can be held.
Wong Tai Sin Temple, formerly known as Sik Sik Yuen, was founded in 1921, after decades of careful management, the whole hall is splendid, and the building is majestic. Covering an area of more than 18,000 square metres, the Wong Tai Sin Temple, also known as Sik Sik Yuen, was built in 1945 and is one of the most famous temples in Kowloon, Hong Kong. According to legend, Wong Tai Sin, also known as the Red Pine Fairy, is widely known for practicing medicine to help the world. Legend has it that the Wong Tai Sin enshrined in the shrine is "responsive". At the end of the lunar calendar and from the first day to the 15th day of the first lunar month, a large number of devotees visit the shrine, and all Wong Tai Sin disciples gather at the main hall of the shrine at noon to participate in the rituals.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Taoist priest Liang Ren'an and others came to Hong Kong from the ancestral altar of Puqing in Xiqiao Mountain, Guangdong. Initially, he opened an altar in Wan Chai to teach and worship the red pine fairy. In 1921, after the guidance of the immortals, they chose Longxiang Road under the Lion Mountain in Kowloon to build a shrine. Later, the number of believers increased, and the incense became more and more prosperous, becoming one of the famous temples in Hong Kong and Kowloon. It is said that Wong Tai Sin "responds to requests", and the signature is particularly effective. Every year, many devotees compete to celebrate the Lunar New Year on the first day of the Lunar New Year, which becomes an annual Chinese New Year celebration in the city.
Huang Tai Sin Temple According to the "Jinhua Mansion Record" in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Huang Tai Sin's original name was Huang Chuping, a native of Lanxi, Jinhua, Zhejiang, and was born in a poor family during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (328 AD). He was 8 years old shepherding sheep on Chisong Mountain in Jinhua, Zhejiang; When he was 15 years old, he met a Taoist priest when he went up to the mountain to shepherd sheep. Shanbu saw that Chuping had a different appearance, so he took him to Jinhua Chisong Mountain to practice for 40 years, and finally became an immortal. Therefore, Wong Tai Sin took "red pine nuts" as an alias. Later, his brother Huang Chu went to look for him. When the brothers met, they asked, "Where are the sheep?" Chu Ping shouted loudly: "Sheep rise!" The white rocks that covered the hillside immediately turned into sheep. The couplet at the gate of the Wong Tai Sin Temple in Guangzhou, "The sheep is passed on to the Jin Dynasty, and the crane is ridden to the south sky", which records the legendary story of Wong Tai Sin becoming an immortal. In the restored temple, the one hanging in front of the Wong Tai Sin Hall is also such a couplet.
Taoism is polytheistic, and among the many gods, Wong Tai Sin is quite famous. At that time, Wong Tai Sin traveled all over the world, cured diseases and saved people, helped the world, and left a lot of immortal roads, his merits were well-known, and he was supported by the general public, and they set up ancestral halls to honor him.
Guangzhou Wong Tai Sin Temple was built in the Qing Dynasty, that is, in 1899 A.D., and in 1904 was rebuilt with donations from enthusiastic people from all walks of life. Although it was remote at that time, it was once one of the religious holy places in Guangzhou, and its incense was flourishing, which had a great impact on the urban area of Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta. Although the shrine was destroyed in 1910, the relics left behind by the old shrine, such as stone carved couplets, relief stone pillars, flat foreheads, door decorations, stone lions, etc., are decorated with exquisite carvings, which can be imagined from the grand scale and exquisite architectural art of the ancestral hall in those years.
In 1915, the former host of the Wong Tai Sin Temple, Daoist Liang Yan'an, moved south to Hong Kong with the portrait of Wong Tai Sin, spiritual signs and medicine sticks, and built the Hong Kong Wong Tai Sin Temple in 1921. Similarly, Wong Tai Sin is also deeply believed and worshiped by people at home and abroad. Since the reform and opening up, the vast number of enthusiastic people at home and abroad have demanded the resumption of the construction of the Wong Tai Sin Temple in Fangcun in situ. Later, with the approval of the relevant departments, Guangzhou Jiayou Tourist Attraction Development Co., Ltd. was formed by the cooperation of Hong Kong Canada Land Co., Ltd. and Fangcun New Lychee Bay Industrial Development Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the restoration project of Wong Tai Sin Temple. Before 1921, the Wong Tai Sin Temple was originally located in Guangzhou. The Wong Tai Sin Temple in Guangzhou has a history of 100 years, just because the political situation in Guangzhou was very complicated at that time. At that time, Guangzhou was controlled by Chen Jiongming, who suddenly called himself a "revolutionary" and said that he wanted to break the superstition, so he demolished temples to build roads, or demolished temples to sell land and build houses, and most importantly, to seize the opportunity to occupy real estate. At that time, many temples were destroyed. Wong Tai Sin Temple was naturally affected in the era when warlords scraped the ground in the name of breaking superstition, but fortunately, Hong Kong gentlemen Li Yimei, Tam Jaerson, Leung Yan An, Kwok Shuting, Zhang Dianchen, Chen Guishi and Tang Liquan brought the Wong Tai Sin statue to Hong Kong and enshrined it in Sik Se Garden, so that the Wong Tai Sin statue was preserved.
In 1915, Taoist couples Liang Ren'an and Liang Jun turned father and son, and received the statue of the red pine fairy from the Puguang ancestral altar in Xiqiao Mountain, Guangdong. Originally enshrined in Wan Chai, in 1921, the Great Immortal showed that he went to the auspicious land of Zhuyuan and built the "Sik Se Garden" so far.
In early 1921, when Wong Tai Sin came to Hong Kong, it was not a ginseng god, but because the good faith later asked to enter the temple to visit the gods, the gentry and businessmen were willing to give charity on weekdays, so they set the opening hours, and the incense was collected, allocated for good deeds, and donated medicine to doctors every year. At 12 noon on September 25, 1956, the prime minister of the temple, Huang Yunjin, officially handed over the income of the temple to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Wong Tai Sin Temple experienced World War II, and Allied planes used carpet bombing many times, but every grass and tree in the Temple was safe and sound.
In 1915, the head of Puqing Altar in Xiqiao, Guangdong, Liang Yan'an, and Liang Junzhuan brought the portrait of Master Wong Tai Sin to Hong Kong, and successively opened an altar at Chawei Street and Tai Ta Tei to explain the teachings, and later set up an altar to worship Master Wong Tai Sin and opened a pharmacy at Wan Chai Avenue East, which was destroyed by fire two years later, and the altar was relocated to the east of the Wan Chai waterfront. Later, in 1921, Master Wong Tai Sin sent a revelation and ordered the Taoist priests at that time to build a temple in the vicinity of Kowloon City. In August 1922, Sik Sik Yuen was officially established to manage the ancestral temple. At the beginning of the construction of the Wong Tai Sin Temple, it was originally a private dojo, which was only for Taoist couples and their families to enter and worship. Later, the number of benevolent worshippers increased, and in 1934, due to the restrictions of the temple ordinance and the land lease agreement at that time, the park could no longer allow the public to enter. It was not until 21 August 1956 that the Wong Tai Sin Temple was officially approved by the Government to be fully opened to the devotees.
The architecture of Wong Tai Sin Temple is majestic and splendid, and it is full of the characteristics of classical Chinese temples. The temple covers an area of more than 18,000 square meters, and in addition to the main hall, the Daxiong Treasure Hall, there are also the Three Holy Halls, Congxin Garden, etc. Among them, the archway building is the most distinctive, fully expressing the traditional Chinese culture. The Nine Dragons Wall in the Wong Tai Sin Temple is modeled after the Nine Dragons Wall in Beijing, and the inscription poem of the chairman of the Buddhist Association of China is engraved on the wall, adding to the traditional Chinese characteristics of the Wong Tai Sin Temple. Under the smoke of cigarettes, the faithful worship and pray for blessings. There is an inscription in the hall, which introduces the process of Huang Chuping becoming an immortal.
In addition to the Daxiong Treasure Hall, other buildings in the temple are also full of traditional features, such as the Three Holy Churches dedicated to Lü Zu (Lü Dongbin), Guanyin and Emperor Guan, and a portrait of Confucius. The temple also treasures a lot of Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian classics, which can be said to be a collection of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Wong Tai Sin Temple donated medicine and participated in many social activities. It was also approved to hold a wedding ceremony in the ancestral hall and register the newlyweds.
According to the theory of Feng Shui, the place resembles the shape of a lion carrying a bell, belonging to the seventh branch of the dragon vein of Kowloon, falling from the Lion Rock, turning into a bee waist crane Teng falling vein in Wong Tai Sin District, named "Silk Thread Hanging Golden Bell", or "Lion Carrying Bell", covering the two images are similar.
Mountain-shaped topography, located solemnly, the left and right mountains are well protected, the front three case peaks, the peak review, the scenery is beautiful, the gas is open, Zhong Lingyu shows the square peaks towards the arch, the green water converges in front, the so-called "day into the money and the night into the treasure", echoing correspondingly, the window hides the gas, ** natural, located in the heart of the sky, magpie singing the good news, on the victory of the sky, down the ground, the great immortal is located in the meantime, if the emperor sits in the palace, it can enjoy Hong Kong and Kowloon all over the thousands of homes and incense flourishing, good also. If you look closely, it is not difficult to feel that the mountains are extraordinary. There was also no damage to nearby feng shui.
All Wong Tai Sin's disciples and guests will gather at the main hall of the shrine at noon to participate in the sacrificial activities, and the scene is lively. Incidentally, Wong Tai Sin Temple is the only Taoist temple in Hong Kong where Taoist weddings can be held.
At the entrance of the ancestral temple, there are usually a lot of stalls selling incense candles and fruits, the incense candles are about ten yuan a bundle, and the fruits are sold for more than ten yuan, and the price is suitable. When offering incense, one should bow with both hands together and then put the incense with the left hand, which represents respect for the gods, and the number of incense sticks is auspicious in one or three. It is said that Wong Tai Sin's signature is very effective, so many good believers have come from afar to ask for guidance. Visitors can get the lottery holder next to the main hall, there are 100 bamboo branches inside, respectively make up the number of 1-100, each ask a thing, to shake the lottery holder until one of the bamboo sticks falls out, see its number as a signature paper, the scriptures on the signature paper is the response of the great immortal. The two-storey building next to the temple is the place where the visa is released, and there are many professional visa interpreters who set up the visa release service, and the price is about $20 to $30 per lot.
According to the "Red Songzi Self-Statement" in the ancestral hall, Huang Daxian is commonly known as Huang Chuping, a native of Danxi in the Jin Dynasty (now Chi'an Town, Yiwu City, Zhejiang), a young and poor family, shepherding sheep for people at the age of eight, and meeting immortals in his hometown of Jinhua Chisong Mountain at the age of fifteen, entering the blessed land to cultivate, and achieving positive results. Forty years later, when his brother went to the mountains to look for him, he saw that he could turn a stone into a sheep. Since then, the two brothers have practiced together, and they are both immortals. He lived in seclusion in the Red Pine Mountain, so he was called the Red Pine Wong Tai Sin. According to the staff, the architectural layout of the Wong Tai Sin Temple is designed in accordance with the divination in front of the Wong Tai Sin Hall in 1937 and strictly according to the principle of the Five Elements Bagua: Feiyingtai (Copper Pavilion) belongs to gold, Jingtang belongs to wood, jade liquid pool belongs to water, Yuxiang Pavilion belongs to fire, and Zhaobi belongs to earth. Therefore, as a tourist, they generally start to worship from the Wong Tai Sin Hall, and the fortune is also done in front of the hall, and the rest of the halls dedicated to the gods are relatively small, and the incense is much weaker than the Wong Tai Sin Hall.
There are reminders everywhere in the temple to worship the necessary things of Wong Tai Sin, and Wong Tai Sin's daily worship is mainly "five offerings": incense, flowers, lamps, water, and fruits. Hong Kong people believe that by offering incense or flowers, they will get the attention of Wong Tai Sin and pray that their wishes will be fulfilled. In addition, the staff said that clean water is also a good offering, because the Tao is natural, they advocate energy conservation, and use precious and limited resources for other places; As for the number of incense, singular numbers such as "1" and "3" are the most appropriate.
At the end of the Lunar New Year and from the 1st to the 15th day of the first lunar month, a large number of devotees visit the Wong Tai Sin Temple to thank God for the past year and for the blessing of God for the year ahead. Every year on the 23rd day of the eighth lunar month is the birthday of Master Wong Tai Sin, and all Wong Tai Sin disciples gather at the main hall of the temple at noon to participate in the rituals. Every year on the twenty-third day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar is the birthday of Wong Tai Sin, and every year the Wong Tai Sin Festival will be very grand, and many celebrities go to participate. Every year, Wong Tai Sin's prophecies are also very accurate and well-known. Therefore, if you ask about the future, it will be a good choice to avoid evil and go to the Daxian Temple to burn incense. Every 30 nights of the Chinese New Year's Eve, many good believers bring incense and candle offerings, you squeeze me to hug me, go to the top of the Wong Tai Sin Temple to take the top position, take its good intentions, in the coming year can be everything smooth, handy, bad luck also turned into good luck, asking for a sign is Hong Kong's authentic lunar culture.
Wong Tai Sin Temple is free of charge, just go to the small room on the left side of the main hall to borrow it directly. More than 95% of the people who ask for a lot of money are on their knees, and a small number of tourists also stand in front of the hall to ask for a lot, but it is said that it is difficult for those who stand to ask for a lot, and it is difficult to throw an effective basket, and of course they cannot ask for a lot. Of course, this is a statement, and there is no way to verify it.
So is Wong Tai Sin's request for a signature really effective? According to the staff and the Hong Kong indigenous people present, the response was "Yes". The questions asked by these friends can be said to involve all aspects of life: marriage, asking questions, traveling, health, money, childbirth, ...... And the result is exactly the same as in the signature.
It seems that this Wong Tai Sin Temple is really a magical place, but how did the Zhixing Dao Master move to the side of the Wong Tai Sin Temple to do cultivation?
