Chapter Forty-Six: Bare Rock

There were a lot of rocks in this burial chamber, and the outermost part was where we were, but there were no stone doors or anything like that, and we were surrounded by sealed stone brick walls, which looked a bit like masonry tombs, and the sand under our feet seemed to be left over from the time when the walls were built. As soon as I saw that there were still some bones under our feet, I stepped on them with a click, and I looked down at them, but fortunately I was used to them and was not frightened, but I was puzzled and asked, "This human bone does not look like a person who has just died, it seems to have been dead for a long time!" ”

The second uncle glanced at those human bones, as if he knew what was going on with these bones, and said, "These bones should not be tomb robbers, but originally died in the tomb!" ”

"Huh? What does it mean, the one who originally died in it was buried with him? I asked again.

"Well, so to speak, do you see the tools down there?" The second uncle pointed to some iron tools that had basically rotted under the sand and other wooden tools.

We all nodded, motioning for the second uncle to continue, and the second uncle continued to explain: "These tools are used to build walls, chisels, hammers, it seems that these bones belong to the workers and craftsmen who built this tomb, and they may have been used to accompany the tomb owner on his back!" ”

"I don't understand this, don't these craftsmen all design some secret passages to escape? Why are you still buried here? I asked.

When the old lady saw that I didn't understand, she said: "Young man, you don't know what these tomb owners are thinking, they may also know that the master will lay a secret passage in the tomb, so some smart tomb owners will naturally send people to monitor the master in order to prevent their tombs from being stolen and excavated, on the one hand, so that the location of their tombs will be exposed after the master goes out, and on the other hand, let them be buried with them!" ”

"Yes, it's almost the same as what the old lady said, I'm afraid that the secret passage they played was discovered by the owner of the tomb a long time ago, and someone was sent to seal it, and these tomb owners all started to build tombs before they died, so it's not difficult to explain, basically everyone who participated in the construction of the tomb will be used to accompany the burial!" The second uncle took it and said.

"Don't say it, go in!" The master held the halberd in his hand, with a serious expression, and walked in first, looking at the expression of the master, I knew that the tomb inside was definitely not as simple as the tomb outside.

It is said that once the face of the young master becomes serious, he is really a little scared, after the bangs cover one eye, only the other side of the heroic sword eyebrows remains, the eyes under the sword eyebrows are deep and shining, and the lack of words makes him look more like an old man who doesn't know how many people have gone through, but as soon as he is matched with this young face, it is difficult to associate that aspect.

We all looked at each other, and after watching the master enter, he followed behind, and we entered this tomb unconsciously, but this tomb is not at all like the ones outside, when I saw the situation in the tomb, I couldn't believe it, it was all bare stones, and there was no carving at all!

"It's not like a tomb! How is it like an underground storage space, will the stones used to build this tomb be here? The crow asked.

"No, this should have been an underground cavern, and these rocks seem to have existed in the first place!" The second uncle replied.

Hearing the second uncle say this, we all couldn't believe it, and I was surprised: "How can this natural cave be formed without groundwater erosion?" ”

"The topography here in Lop Nur is really unclear, and when Lop Nur was not dried up before, it is not excluded that the groundwater is also very rich, but the appearance of these rocks does not look like they were washed out, but more like they were dug out of mining, but this is a tomb, and it is not very scientific!" The second uncle continued.

"But the tomb doesn't have it on the structure of the tomb!" I exclaimed.

"The structure of the tomb should only depict the upper layer, there should be no bottom, and looking at it like this, there should be only this tomb." The second uncle said.

After listening to us for a long time, the master suddenly said: "This is a brick and stone underground palace tomb!" ”

In fact, I still have some understanding of the structure of the tomb, which can be divided into several types.

In the early days of primitive society, the form of the tomb was very simple, only digging a pit in the ground, and the tomb pit was generally small, which could only accommodate the corpse, without a coffin, and the corpse was not wrapped with anything special.

Later, in the late Neolithic Age, in the late period of Dawenkou culture, a few tomb pits were large in area, and the pit was built with natural wood along the four walls, and the upper part was covered with natural wood.

Later, with the development of social history, the structure of the tomb also changed greatly. There are three main types.

The first is the wooden coffin underground palace, after entering the class society, there is a strict difference between class and hierarchy in the tomb system, and the mausoleum of the ruling class has a very grand scale.

The coffin is the "palace room" that holds the coffin, that is, the coffin outside the coffin, the neatly cut down big wooden fang or thick plate with mortise and tenon to form a flat large box, there is a chassis below, there is a big cover, it is divided into several grids in the coffin, the coffin is placed in the middle, there are several squares on both sides and up and down, it is called the box, and the burial goods are placed respectively.

This other type, that is, the second type, is called the brick and stone underground palace, this kind of tomb structure began to produce in the Han Dynasty, and the tomb chamber was generally built with brick and stone, and the wooden coffin tomb was gradually replaced.

This change mainly began in the middle of the Western Han Dynasty, and then spread to all over the country, in the middle of the Western Han Dynasty, the Central Plains generation of hollow brick tombs were popular; In the late Western Han Dynasty, stone chamber tombs began to appear, and portraits were carved in the tombs, so they were also called "portrait stone tombs".

The structure and layout of the masonry underground palace burial chamber are also mostly modeled after the real-life residences of the time.

With the development of the years, there are also some changes, and continuous progress, from the Han to the Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, masonry tombs and underground palaces have been constantly developing. The second is the third kind of tomb structure, called the earth cave underground palace, this kind of tomb is mainly in the northern loess rich area, the use of soil thickness, strong viscosity, uniform texture and less precipitation characteristics, excavated into the earth cave earth palace, the wall has exquisite carvings and murals.

There are also many cases of this kind of tomb structure, such as the burial tomb of Xi'an Qianling, the tomb of Princess Yongqin, Prince Zhang Huai and Prince Yide, and the underground palace of Jingling Tomb of Tang Xizong.

When discussing the tomb system in the pre-Qin and Han literatures, there are usually two key points, one is about the development of the tomb system, and the other is the hierarchy of the tomb system.

The burial chamber is surrounded by masonry walls, with protruding rocks of various shapes in the center.

But just as we should marvel at the structure of this burial chamber, there is a huge stone platform surrounded by the protruding rock, and the stone platform is actually layered.
