Chapter 6: The Snowman
The snow fell all night, and the caravan walked all night, not being attacked again along the way. Mina dozed off on the unicorn's back, and after hundreds of years of spending time with each other, she had become accustomed to sleeping in the saddle. Because of the heart-to-heart connection, the water reins, horsewhips, and spurs are unnecessary and will never be used.
The white tight-fitting breeches and the silk halter stockings inside were torn by the saber-toothed tiger, and they needed to be repaired after resisting Brynsander, and now it would not be too obvious because of the armor view.
With the howling of the cold wind, the convoy passed through hills along the trade route. Finally, when it was almost dawn, the leader's carriage began to climb a hillside. The walls of Brinsander come into view.
This is the largest city in the Icewind Dale, and the Ten Towns are trading centers with southern cities such as Neverwinter, Luskan, and Waterdeep.
Because Mina was asleep, she didn't remember a joke someone had told her: "There must be a battle before Round Bell bursts into the atmosphere." β
In fact, she doesn't take anything she says to the kind of guy who slanders her little fat legs in Kyoto all day long - although she doesn't know what Kyoto is.
"Young men!" cried the dwarf, "Brynsander has arrived. I guarantee that the taverns here are full of jerks and good wine that no other city in Faeron has, and if you stay here for three weeks, you'll learn the ability to 'see what you see'!"
"Huh?" Rubbing her eyes in confusion, Mina yawned unladylikely, but luckily no one noticed.
When one of the guards on the tower saw the caravan, he shouted for the city gates to open, and there was a burst of exhausted cheers from the caravan.
Kulgal also poked his head out to see some of the people waiting for the goods already standing behind the gate to welcome the convoy as it snaked into the city's streets. The car and the guards behind looked a little impatient.
"It's so boring," Kurgal yawned boredly, "At this moment, the gates of the city are wide open, and it is the enemy army taking the opportunity to attack the city, why not come here?"
The journey is finally over, and the next thing I should do is to go and rest in a tavern with a lot of adventurers - since this is the commercial and trade center of the Ten Towns, there should be a lot of them. Drow, on the other hand, is in charge of secretly interacting with the Arcane Brotherhood's informants here.
As soon as he finished speaking, a sharp roar was heard in the distance.
"Is that a snow monster?" the dwarf, who has been running a merchant in the Northland all year round, easily recognized, "but they only dare to attack pedestrians, and they will not approach the city." β
Before he could figure out what a monster was, he was preempted by others, and Kurgal felt that his self-esteem as a mage had been seriously frustrated, and it seemed that monster knowledge books were necessary to be multimedia!
There were still a few carriages that did not enter the door, and the guards were a little helpless.
"Hold those monsters down!" the dwarf shouted to the paladins and mages, "keep the vehicles behind you in order, don't move!"
Mina nodded, jumped off the unicorn, and slid through the gap between the carriage and the gates. Although she is petite, she is not flexible enough with armor.
Considering his bust and hip circumference, Kurgal wisely chose to stay where he was. With the sound of whistling, several snow monsters had quickly passed the wagon and the gate and came to the rear. Others climbed the walls and threw the stones used to defend the city downward.
The Yeti of Tibet, the Savage of Shennongjia, the Youwei of Australia, and the Bigfoot of North America have always been legendary creatures on Earth, but they are real in Toriel. And strangely, the people around Icewind Dale call it almost the same as the name of the Yeti around the Himalayas - "Night Emperor or Yati".
Thinking of the snowman taking humans away and violating them, and looking at the two-meter-tall white-haired gorilla, Kurgal couldn't help but feel a pain in his lower abdomen. After reading the silicon science and technology novels in her head, the group of red-robed mages were very painful to get ogres and even giants to brutally tamp her, so that she successfully learned that whatever thick arms are completely deceitful.
"Oleh-ahli-bedah-dan-operasi-gerakan-lebih-cepat-dari-biasanya, the attack accelerates!" As the spell cast Schalke's movements suddenly became so fast that the surrounding guards and even the snow monsters could barely see his movements, the black smoke that Drow turned into almost straightened into black lines, and he carved a bloody hole in one snow monster and then turned to another.
In fact, this is the most cost-effective spell she uses to kill, and it is even more terrifying if it is cast on Mina, who has great power. Although sudden changes can distort the movements of inexperienced recipients, in fact, most of those who survive have already experienced this.
Before the Plague of Magic, it was said that this spell could also be used on multiple people. But now not only does it only work for a single person, but it will be extremely exhausting at the end of the day - like a year older! This may be a side effect of the accelerated metabolism.
With Drow's sword and the paladin's heavy spear, the city's snowman was quickly killed. The guards on the walls swept the perimeter with bows and arrows, and Kurgal could hear them cry of defeat and flee far away.
"Almost!" shouted the mother-dwarf, who was wielding a tomahawk and chopping down the snowman, "the last wagon has come in, close!"
The sudden chill made the paladin look far away. An undead monster wearing armor with arrows and a long sword, pale and eyes glowing blood-red, appeared in front of her.
"Listen, people of Icewind Dale, your tyrant, Akar Kaisso, has returned. β
It conveyed its message to the living creatures in an emotionless tone from the undead:
"Surrender, or die. β
It was the paladin's spear that answered it.
Mina turned around, and except for a few overturned trucks and smashed boxes, the other trucks had safely entered the town, driving along the road in the direction of the city market.
During the attack, the walls of the surrounding houses were torn apart by monsters, and an alchemy shop was set on fire in the turmoil. Surrounded by the corpses of humans, horses, and snow monsters lay in a mess.
The surrounding civilians and merchants were stunned, and the guards who had witnessed the battle nodded to her.
A middle-aged red-haired man in leather armor armed with twin swords and several guards ran over with several guards, it was the local guard captain Markham, and after a brief greeting and thanks, he turned to the aftermath of the disaster.
The leading dwarven Beloni Gang Raid plunged headlong into a dwarven tavern known for its spirits, and the caravan officially dispersed.
Mina first worships the three gods of justice at the Temple of the Three Saints, and then heads to the destination of this trip, a small temple of the sun.
Icewind Dale doesn't see the sun for at least two months of the year, so the temple is small but still luxurious.
This is not to say that the dΓ©cor is very opulent, full of all kinds of gold, silver and antiques.
When Mina pushed the door in, first a warm breeze hit, and then she saw the star map on the ceiling for lighting:
The orange-yellow ball of light representing the sun floats in the center, and the small balls representing the planets rotate along the orbit, the third of which is the planet Torrell where the continent of Ferron is located, and the small white dot around it is Torrell's moon.
The priest Amanata who is in charge of this place is a middle-aged and elderly woman with black hair, black eyes and yellow skin. It is said that her ancestors were dragon-granting people who migrated from the eastern continent of Karatu to Faeron more than a hundred years ago.
In addition, the Church of the Holy Unicorn and the Church of the Sun God have a good relationship, so the Ranger occasionally comes here to seek healing.
