Chapter 22: The Excavator of Norbulingka's Relic
The big man led Guan Wen out of the courtyard on foot, walked north for a while, and entered a dilapidated courtyard behind the Potala Palace. There is only a row of ordinary bungalows in the courtyard, and the doors are ajar, wafting out the strong fragrance of milk tea.
When they reached the door, the door opened automatically, and a Tibetan woman with waist-length hair greeted them.
The big man stopped and said respectfully, "We're going to—"
The woman smiled and nodded: "Got it, His Holiness is waiting for you inside."
The big man walked in with Guan Wen, and there was a wooden door on the right wall, and after that door, they entered a room full of Mani stones. An old man in a gray monk's robe sat cross-legged on a pile of Mani stones, his hair and beard tangled and growing wildly, probably not cut for a long time.
"Venerable, I have brought a young man to pay my respects to you, who witnessed Master Cheng's death and received Master Cheng's relics." The big man said respectfully.
The old man raised his head, the folds of his face trembled slightly, and he asked in a dumb voice, "What about the relics?" Show me. ”
Guan Wen took out the pebble-like thing, took a step forward, and handed his hands to the old man.
Relic, originally referring to the bones and bead-like gem-like products left behind by the Buddhist ancestor Shakyamuni Buddha after his death, is called "Tuodu, Shililuo" in Indian and "spiritual bone, body bone, body" in Chinese, which is a crystalline body left by a practitioner after cremation. The relics are completely different from the bones of ordinary dead people, and their shapes are ever-changing, ranging from round, oval, lotus-shaped, to Buddha-like or bodhisattva-like. The relics come in a variety of colors, some resemble pearls, agate, crystals, some are completely transparent, and some are radiant, like diamonds. The one left by Master Cheng is blue-gray, with a smooth surface, and at first glance, it is no different from a pebble washed by flowing water thousands of times.
The old man's hands were extremely thin, and his gray skin was so loose that it drooped downward, almost separating from his bones.
"Very well, he has completed his merits." The old man said, "Death is the best relief, and after he dies and is reincarnated, he will return to the path of the demon master, and the cycle will continue." This is his fate and the fate of the Cheng family, others can't change it, and there is no need to change it. ”
"Venerable, the witch has been resurrected, but fortunately, there is a great net of soul enchantments blocking it, so it didn't cause a catastrophe. You say, can we find a way to destroy the witch once and for all?" The big guy asked.
The old man was silent for a while, and suddenly sighed: "The witch has never died, how can she talk about resurrection?" said that she was dead, all of them were spread by the people, and added their own understanding. Looking through the history books, all of Xizàng's official writings do not explicitly indicate this issue. ”
"So what to do?" The big man asked again.
The old man picked up a Mani stone at his feet, picked up a knife in his right hand, and slowly carved a small swastika symbol on the stone, as if he had not heard the question of the big man at all.
The woman came in with two cups of milk tea and placed them on the mani pile next to her. She didn't go out immediately, but looked at Guan Wenzai carefully, with a strange look in her eyes.
"You know him?" The old man asked.
The woman raised her hand, rubbed her eyes vigorously, and looked at Guan Wen a few more times before shaking her head slightly abruptly.
"Don't think about it, let's go down." The old man said.
The woman took a few steps outside, suddenly turned her head and spoke a long list of Tibetan words to Guan Wen, her tone urgent and full of confusion.
The big man did not hesitate to translate the evil to Guan Wen: "Do you still remember the story under the Nisseri Mountain?" The glacier, the stone chamber, the battle? It's been a long time since that incident, but everyone who experienced it is unforgettable and can't forget it. We've been waiting so long, why are you showing up so far?"
Guan Wen was surprised inexplicably, because he didn't know the woman, and the two parties had only met for the first time.
"Do you understand what she said?" The big guy asked.
Guan Wen smiled bitterly and shook his head: "I don't understand." In my memory, there has never been a passage related to the glacier, the stone chamber, or the battle, and besides, I don't even understand what she said, how can the past lives of the two sides intersect?"
The woman wore a silver necklace around her neck with a heavy heart-shaped turquoise pendant attached to it. When she spoke hurriedly, she kept pinching the pendant with her right hand to show Guan Wen. However, Guan Wen really didn't have the shadow of the woman in his memory, so he could only shake his head apologetically.
"She speaks an ancient Tibetan language, which, as far as I know, is only spoken in a small area of the Rikhatsei, Tashilhunpo Monastery, Niseri Mountain. The history of that language can be traced back to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, that is, between 1700 and 1800 AD. Since the great war in which the Qing Dynasty's Manchurian nobleman General Fukangan entered Tibet to resist the invasion of the Gurkhas, the ancient Tibetan language has been largely lost. It wasn't until I met Venerable Red Flame that I became acquainted with the language again. The big man explained to Guan Wen in a low voice.
The woman only looked at Guan Wen's expression and understood the meaning of his few words of conversation with the big man. She had already opened her mouth to continue to say something, but she only let out a faint sigh, and the disappointment was overflowing.
"Wind Crane, go down." The old man commanded.
The woman sighed, let go of the turquoise pendant, bowed deeply to the old man, and exited the door.
"Venerable, I can't guess the origin of the wind crane, please give me some advice." The big man asked the old man for advice with great humility.
The old man did not answer, but first placed the carved Mani stone on the large pile of stones on his left, raised his head, and slowly widened his eyes.
Guan Wen saw that the old man's white eyes were partially covered with red bloodshots, and the bloodlines were woven into a large red net to wrap his black eyes, as if they were a mysterious dragon ball refined from the flames.
"Wind Crane is the name I gave her, and she has countless mysterious hidden memories in her mind, but it is so chaotic that she can't even sort it out. Before she entered here, she was just an ordinary peasant woman farming on the outskirts of Rikaze, who had not even attended a day of school, and knew nothing but Arabic numerals from zero to nine. I opened the 'knowledge' in her mind, so that she could be reborn and become a new person. Wind Crane Wind Crane, Crane in the Wind, in my opinion, she is a white crane flying in the sky, I don't know where she is, don't ask her name, just pay attention to the knowledge in her mind. Everyone's ability and time are limited in their spiritual career, and only by focusing on the key points can they achieve great achievements and contribute to Tibetan Buddhism, so that it can flourish and prosper. The Red Flame Venerable replied.
"You mean to say that the 'knowledge' stored in her mind is useless, right?" The big guy asked.
The Red Flame Venerable tilted his head, stared at the black roof, and asked thoughtfully, "Useless? Will that be the case?"
The big man continued: "At the very least, those 'knowledge and collection' are useless to us, and they can neither relieve us of the pressure of suppressing demons, nor can they reveal some secrets that will help us. Her existence can also be said to have nothing to do with us, and she will never cross the line, right?"
The Red Flame Venerable asked again: "What you mean is useless to us; What works for us is what works, isn't it?"
The big man nodded: "That's true, because we are under too much pressure and can't turn to others for help, so we can only solve it ourselves." In this way, nothing else can be taken care of. If the complexity of her mind is messing with your mindset, I think it's better to let her go. ”
The Red Flame Venerable shook his head: "No, you are wrong, the real subduing demons is a difficult process. In this process, we need countless conditions and opportunities. In fact, we don't know which opportunities are useful and which are not, so we can only move forward in constant temptation. When the water is clear, there are no fish, and when people are observed, there are no fugitives. I want you to understand that all the secrets of Tibetan Buddhism, all the mysteries of the snowy plateau, tell the same thing. As a cultivator, if you can't be eclectic and gather the strengths of a hundred schools, how can you achieve positive results?"
The big man was speechless, but it was clear that the words of the Red Flame Venerable did not move him.
"Okay, now I want to talk to the young man alone, you go out first. I can see that you have been seriously injured, so go out and meditate for a while, and then you can calm your breath. Red Flame Venerable said.
The big man obediently withdrew and closed the door again.
"Sit down." Red Flame Venerable said.
There were no benches in the room except for the Mani pile. Guan Wensuo sat on the ground and listened respectfully.
"I know that one day, cultivators will be able to recognize the fact that the witch was not annihilated by Princess Wencheng, Songtsen Gampo, and Princess Chizun. The truth is that no matter how much dust and dirt it is covered with, as soon as someone starts digging up the truth, day by day, the truth will come to the surface. Just like when I found those two "Xizàng Demon Suppression Map" thangkas in Norbulingka, the truth will always exist, always cruel, and always beyond your imagination. The moment I saw those two thangkas—no, in fact, when I received the commission to sort through Norbulingka's relics, I was already vaguely aware that there was going to be a great discovery that would shock the world. However, instead of discovering gold and jewelry, and discovering antiquities and curios, like others, I found a catastrophe. Forget jì asked, have you ever visited Norbulingka?"
Guan Wen nodded.
"Well, I'll tell you that story again—"
Venerable Chiyan was the oldest of the Lhasa monks, and when he was chosen to clean up Norbulingka's relics, he immediately felt a heavy weight on his shoulders, because he had always focused on his own inner practice and rarely participated in such social activities. On that day, when two monks helped him out of the current courtyard, he used the fallen leaves at the entrance of the courtyard to do a divination, and was shocked to find that he would encounter a catastrophe in his life, and his lifelong practice would be cut off from it, and he could not continue.
When he arrived at Norbulingka's side, he found that there were already more than a dozen respected monks working on the tidying up, so he deliberately avoided the crowd and walked into a secluded corridor. Every time he thought of this, he was very ashamed, because this kind of "deliberate evasion" was tantamount to being a deserter on the battlefield, which was a great shame. However, all men are selfish, and so are he. At the end of the corridor, he saw a large cabinet depicting ancient patterns, and he twisted the bronze hooks on the cabinet, opened the two doors, and saw two thangka scrolls. The mission given by God cannot be shirked, and he originally intended to escape, but unconsciously, he found the most valuable thing in Norbulingka's activity of sorting out relics - "Xizàng Demon Suppression Map".
That is, from that day on, he did a lot of research on the witches that appeared in the picture, first rummaged through the classics in the major temples in the Xizàng area, and then traveled to India, Nepal, Sikkim, and Bhutan, borrowing a large number of Sanskrit ancient books, and finally restored the historical truth that Songtsen Gampo, the king of Tubo, went to the Tang Dynasty to pay tribute and seek relatives.
The focus of this truth is on four questions: What happened in Tibet before Songtsen Gampo sent his envoy eastward? What happened to Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty? Where is the original work of "Xizàng Demon Suppression Map"? After the success of the demon suppression, what impact did it have on the fate of the country in Tibet and the Tang Dynasty?
