Chapter 2: Escape from the Basement
What is this place? I opened my eyes and looked around in confusion. Dizzy and dizzy, I only felt a hot pain in my body.
After finally getting used to the harsh light in front of me, I noticed that I was lying on my back in a small, airtight room. Over me, a dim incandescent lamp hung in mid-air, glaring in the reflection of the lime painted on the walls of the rudimentary chamber.
What the hell is this place? Why am I here? In the flash of light, the ugly faces of the village chief and the smiling faces of the followers burst out of my mind, and my heart suddenly tightened, and a cold sweat swished out of my vest: Could it be that I was killed by the village chief? This is the legendary Netherworld?
No, the various depictions of yin that I have heard from adults since I was a child are by no means the way I have seen them in front of my eyes. The pain of the wound on my body reminds me that I am still alive.
I turned my head sideways with difficulty, and only then did I see that in addition to a small camp bed lying below me, there was a white toilet in the corner.
Hey! How is it all like that pantry in my house? I rubbed my eyes and stared blankly at the flush toilet, and after a moment I was more convinced that this was the storage room under my house. Usually this storage room is full of clutter, the flush toilet was replaced after the room was renovated, because it is intact, the always thrifty mother is not willing to throw it away, so it is placed in the storage room.
Remembering everything that had happened before I fell unconscious, I shuddered at the village chief's words that threatened me to die. I knew that the village chief was not simply intimidating me, because when I was a child, I had heard that there was this clan rule in the village a long time ago: if a child of the Mo family did something that was offensive or harmful to the people in the village, the village chief had the right to execute that person according to the clan rules.
I couldn't help but feel scared, and a wave of remorse hit my heart. If I hadn't discovered the secret of Murakami Pharmaceutical, maybe I'd be playing at some scenic spot with my classmates right now!
Why should I denounce my biological parents and the whole village? Thinking of my parents' love for me since I was a child and the filial piety of our elders in the Mojia Village, I can't help but feel hot on my face and feel distressed in my heart. Sending your biological parents to jail? I'm a beast.
However, my parents taught me to be a person with a sense of justice from an early age, and this concept has been deeply ingrained in me. I can't tolerate the people in the village, including my parents, who are hurting the world with a bad conscience, and I don't want to be dragged into the water by them, so I want to leave here and report them.
Thinking of this, I was just about to get up from the bed, and there was a heart-piercing pain in my left hand. I looked down and was shocked to see that I had a thick chain on my left wrist.
After a brief moment of fear, I quickly calmed down. I realized that it must have been my parents who begged me so hard that the village chief let me go, beat me violently, and locked me in the basement of his house.
At that moment, the good life values that I had formed since I was a child almost collapsed, and I hated the village chief, even my parents and everyone in the village. I've decided, I'm going to try to get out of this secret room and expose their crimes.
I calmed down and looked at my rarely entered, underground chamber. The clutter in the storage room had long since been cleared, except for the small bed and the discarded flush toilet, only the dim light on the top was always on. The pain on my body and the iron locks on my wrists reminded me that I had been imprisoned by the village chief and my parents.
Hey, what's that? My eyes had adjusted to the light in the room, and my eyes were fixed on a small black object behind the light bulb. I'm sure in less than three seconds, I've decided that the little thing is a miniature wireless monitoring probe.
I was watched, and I lost my freedom, but I didn't feel fear at that moment, but was surprisingly calm. I thought of many ways to escape, but the existence of the chain on my wrist denied my almost naΓ―ve idea again and again.
The sound of the key turning through the iron door suppressed the sadness, anger, and fear in my heart, trying not to let tears flow from the corners of my eyes.
The door opened, and there was another 'clang' of the door closing, and after a small crackling sound, there was a sigh that I was familiar with.
A warm, slightly rough hand touched my forehead and felt like it was my mother. I suddenly lost my composure, opened my eyes and yelled at my mother, "Mom, why are you doing such a hurtful thing? Why do you do this to your own sons? β
When my mother saw that I had woken up, there was a subtle flash of joy in her eyes, and then more fear. She glanced at the camera and lowered her voice, "Shhh Xiaoxun, be quiet! The way you look, your mother is dying. Child, mother, beg you, the secrets of the village, you just have never found out, okay? β
When I saw my mother's frightened look, my heart softened, and I stopped talking, but stubbornly turned my head. Mom sobbed: "Xiaoxun, my parents can't help it, in order to make your life better, in order to provide you with college, I did this hurtful thing without telling you." However, my parents were already wrong, and there was no turning back. The most painful thing for my parents is that they can't bear to see you ruined. β
"Do you know that once you find out this secret, how many families in our Mojia Village will be ruined? You also know the situation in our village, when the village chief said that he was going to attack you, my mother was so scared that she fainted. Your father pleaded hard, and it was only after the village chief agreed to keep you in his home and wait until you figured it out before he allowed you to let you out. β
Mom stood up, sighed heavily, and said, "Xiaoxun, Mom has brought you food, you can eat it while it's hot." Your father and the village chief agreed that we could not visit you for more than ten minutes a day, and your mother was leaving. Xiaoxun, you have to take care of yourself, Mom is worried about when the village chief changes his mind, if you have three long and two short, Mom doesn't want to live. β
My mother wiped away tears and turned to leave, and as she turned to close the door, I distinctly heard the sound of metal objects falling to the ground. I heard the sound of the iron door closing, and I turned my head.
My heart pounded when I saw what my mom had dropped. It was a bunch of keys and a stack of money, something so conspicuous and bulky, how could my mother drop it here without noticing?
After a moment's hesitation, I immediately understood. This must have been deliberately dropped by my mother, and the position where my mother chose to fall was just right, which happened to be a blind spot that the camera couldn't illuminate.
My eyes moistened instantly, and I regretted my attitude towards my mother. My mother knows me best, and she knows that I have a stubborn temper, and I have a strong sense of justice since I was a child, and I will never give in to the village chief. My mother, apparently worried that the village chief would not let me go, deliberately left the money and keys, suggesting that I wanted to escape the village and never come back.
Out of the corner of my eye, I peeked nervously at the camera that was monitoring me at all times, wondering where I would find a place to stay when I fled the village. The idea of revealing the secrets of the village had been erased from my mind the moment my mother deliberately dropped the money and keys. My only thought at the moment is to stay away from this village where I once felt so happy and what makes me so sad at the moment, hide far away, and never come back.
Just as I was about to get out of bed and try to get the money and keys, I heard the sound of the iron door ringing. The door opened, and I was stunned to see my father standing in the doorway.
Strangely, my father, though stunned, sighed to himself as if he had not seen me, "This poor boy has not woken up yet!" β
He bent down to pick up the keys that his mother had dropped on the floor, but he ignored the stack of money on the side. My father, holding the key behind him, walked over to my bedside and said to himself, "Alas, this kid stole my key while I was unprepared." Now it's dark, and the village chiefs are all drinking! Alas, I raised this child so much since I was a child, but I didn't expect him to steal the key and knock me out! β
Father, is this crazy? Or is my body completely gone from here? He can't see me, he can't see the money on the ground? Just as I was stunned, my father had come to me. He didn't face me, he just turned around, and I immediately had a string of cold things in my hand.
My father actually slipped the key into my hand, which was much to my surprise. The father slowly paced to the door, where there was a thick pipe and an angle that the camera could not see anyway.
I saw my father turn his head and smile wryly at me, and I felt in his eyes the kind of love that had disappeared for a long time. He suddenly lunged at the thick pipe, hit his head against the pipe, snorted, and fell to the ground.
Everything in front of me was so weird, but I didn't have time to think about what it was all about. I quickly opened the chain in my hand with the key, and jumped out of bed, to be precise, it rolled out of bed, because I was weak and weak.
I picked up the pile of money from the ground, put it in my pocket, opened the iron door with the key, and rushed out of the basement.
At the moment, I just wanted to desperately escape from this place that scared me, and I didn't dare to go through the main entrance, so I ran quickly to the kitchen in the backyard. In the kitchen, I saw my mother standing in front of the stove in a daze. Seeing me rushing over, my mother shook her head and turned her head as if she couldn't see me.
I opened the back door of the kitchen and rushed out into the field. As soon as I rushed out of the house, I heard my mother's crying faintly behind me.
I ran all the way along the ridge, and I don't know how long it took, and I didn't know where I ran, and then I collapsed and lay down in the field.
Looking at the stars in the sky, the thatch swaying in the breeze, tickling my face, I thought carefully about the strange things about my parents just now.
Suddenly, I understood that my parents had deliberately arranged for me to escape from the village.
