Introduction to the Cthulhu Mythos

Next Chapter

I was reminded that some readers may not understand this mythological system, so I will popularize science a little......

Cthulhu is an evil being in the Cthulhu Mythos created by American novelist Howard Philip Lovecraft. In Auguste William Dress's system for the Cthulhu Mythos, Cthulhu is one of the old rulers, belonging to the four factions of "fire, wind, earth, and water", and is the sworn enemy of the hastur, which symbolizes "wind". Sealed by another powerful group of hostile forces, the Eldergods, it is sleeping in the undersea city of R'Lyeh or Lale'y in the South Pacific, but due to the influence of cosmic aspects (planets or constellations) or other external factors, the seal sometimes breaks open automatically and appears at sea.

However, since the seal was not completely broken, Cthulhu could not stay away from Laleyer, and when the stars changed and the power of the seal was restored, he would return to Lralayh to continue his sleep. In the novel "The Call of Cthulhu", it is mentioned that when the stars reach the right place, Cthulhu will reawaken and dominate the world.

The huge system derived from the story of Cthulhu is collectively known as the Cthulhu Mythos, and the many evil gods of this myth are dominated by "outer gods" and "old rulers".

Outer Gods

The Outer Gods are arguably the most powerful beings in the entire Cthulhu Mythos system, but Lovecraft himself did not specifically use the term Outer Gods (he used the term "Other"). It is often not clear to distinguish between the old rulers and the outer gods, and in both China and Japan, the outer gods are often directly classified among the old ones.

If anything, the gods of the Outer Gods are actually the more powerful Old Rulers (but the gap between this "comparison" is unimaginable), and there will be such a difference mainly from the later classification of Call of Cthulhu callofcthulhu RPG.

Generally speaking, the outer gods can be said to be the embodiment of the operating power of the universe, and they are beings far beyond the universe, and their abilities are far beyond the ability of the old rulers, among which the main ruler, the "god of blind foolishness", the chaos of the universe, and the "black goat of the forest that gives birth to thousands of descendants" Shabu Niggurath (Shub-Niggurath), the "One of All Things" Yog-Sothoth (Yog-Sothoth), and the "Creeping Chaos" The three pillars of Genshin Gods, such as Nyarlathotep, are arguably the most important beings at the center of the Cthulhu Mythos.

Old Gods:

1. Azathoth: The being who dwells at the center of the universe, is the source of all things and the leader of the old gods. An idiot + blind?! Its image is huge...... Amorphous ...... "thing" in a palace in the middle of the universe, frantically beating the invisible drum, blowing a flute that produces only a disgusting, monotonous sound, accompanied by the frenzied howls of the equally stupid and blind old rulers. (This is the original design of Lao Luo)

2. Shub-Niggurath: The ultimate mother goddess of "life", in the form of a super-giant piece of flesh that constantly generates/inhales various biological organs...... (This is also the original design of Lao Luo, by the way, it is the prototype of the famous Japanese RPG monster Slime-sama)

3. Yog-Sothoth: The god of time and space, or perhaps time and space itself. It "knows where the door is, is one with the door, is the key, and is the keeper of the door...... Wait a minute. The image is a collection of billions of glorious spheres...... It seems to be one of the few existential beings that can intermarry with mortals, and the offspring have both invisible tentacle monsters and neutral-looking beautiful teenagers-_- (this is also the original design of Lao Luo)

4. nyalathotep nayaratotip: messenger of communication between the old gods and other beings, with countless incarnations. There are also theories that it is itself an incarnation of Azathoth. Others include the Mortal Ascension Theory (from the callofcthulhud 20 manual) and the like. As the most active being of the Outergods, it is keen to use various methods to lure mortals into depour, causing chaos and destruction. The most commonly used incarnation on Earth is a tall, thin, handsome, and cheerful dark-skinned man (Eddie Murphy?). (This is also the original design of Lao Luo)

Old Dominator

The Old Rulers are powerful and ancient beings in the universe, most of which are composed of unknown substances far beyond the mortal world, and although they are not as powerful as the outer gods, their abilities are still far beyond human imagination, and ordinary humans fall into madness just by seeing them; But there are still alien races, ancient civilizations, or crazy mystical religions that worship them in the hope of gaining their power.

According to Auguste William Dress, the Old Rulers and the Outer Gods were imprisoned for rebelling against the Old Gods in ancient times, and they were unable to move freely except for Nyaratotip, but when the stars were in the right position, they could be summoned to the world by spells.

According to Auguste William Dress's classification, all the Old Rulers are divided into four factions according to the four elements they symbolize: water, fire, wind, and earth. Among them, the old rulers, who symbolize water and wind, and the old rulers, who symbolize fire and earth, are opposed to each other, and they both regard each other as mortal enemies.

It is not the most powerful in the Cthulhu Mythos, but it constitutes the main novel of Cthulhu, which is famous for describing the classic town of Innsmouth, which is famous for its closed environment, alienated population, and demon worship.

And the related extension environment is even more numerous (such as a cute version of the evil god "Let's Sneak!"). Naiako") ......
