8. Book of Eternal Life
Written in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Shennong's Materia Medica is the earliest surviving book on pharmacology in China, which records the properties and effects of hundreds of herbs and has a profound impact on later generations. However, the original of this ancient book from 2,000 years ago has long been dispersed, and no one has really seen the original of the Materia Medica, and what people see is only the text in the Materia Medica, which is quoted in books such as the Compendium of Materia Medica.
"Shennong's Materia Medica", Skinner, these two seem to have no connection, and what connects them together comes from an accidental discovery in a Shennongjia savage search activity thirty-four years ago!
At that time, there were a total of nine people in the expedition team, and they found a few pages of solitary manuscripts in a cave suspected of being inhabited by savages. What's even more exciting is that the word "immortality" repeatedly appears in the content recorded in this solitary manuscript!
In order to find more of the original scriptures, the expedition team came to the cave again to continue digging, and Zuihou found an underground cavern deep in the cave, and a large number of bones were buried in the cave. The bones are stacked on top of each other, apparently not ordinary burials, but more like mass graves where corpses are buried at random.
First there is a solitary manuscript of the Materia Medica, and then there is a dead man's pit in the cave, which must be a major archaeological discovery, not to mention the word "immortality" mentioned in the solitary manuscript.
But before this momentous discovery could be made public, strange things happened one after another.
The first is that the solitary manuscript of the Materia Medica has disappeared.
Immortality is not something that the ancient emperors pursued alone, it is something that everyone yearns for! When the lonely manuscript that recorded the high probability of immortality disappeared, the members of the expedition team immediately became suspicious and blamed each other, and the atmosphere of the entire team fell into a freezing point for a while.
And immediately afterwards, an expedition member played disappearance at this moment.
Thanks to the disappearance of one person, the barrier between the other eight people also disappeared, and they immediately united because it was already clear that the missing person was the one who stole the Immortal Orphan Manuscript!
So in the following days, eight members of the expedition team began to search for the missing expedition member in the mountains, and also asked bus stations, railway stations and other places to confirm whether the missing team member had left Shennongjia.
A week later, the expedition team finally made a discovery, and they found discarded expedition team members' clothing in the mountain, and even underwear, socks and other intimate clothing. This discovery also made the remaining eight expedition members realize that things didn't seem to be what they thought, and if they just wanted to steal the Book of Immortality and go missing, there was absolutely no reason to take off all their clothes.
So the team members definitely went to the cave before to have a look, and when they came to the cave where they found the unique book of the Materia Medica before, they found that there was a complete human skeleton in the cave!
The bones were not lying on the ground, but were hung from the wall by two iron hooks embedded in the stone wall, and there were remnants of meat on the bones, on which several rats were gnawing on the flesh. In the corner of the cave a few branches are propped up into a shelf, and on the shelf hangs a complete human skin!
The eight members of the expedition were all stupefied, some of them fainted, some vomited, and some ran out of the cave like crazy.
The police later identified the bones, which were the ninth members of the expedition who had been missing for 10 days, and no one knew who the killer was. Since then, none of the eight expedition members dared to mention the cave or look for any more manuscripts of the Materia Medica, and the legend of the skinners quietly spread in the village that received the nine expedition members at that time.
The people were afraid that the skinners who had taken away the expedition members would come to the village to catch others, so they hung some skinned animals for the skinners, and these things were indeed taken by some kind of huge creature, and it is not known whether they were savages or skinners.
Decades later, the legend of the skinners in the village and the surrounding area has become more and more varied, and gradually the legend has gone out of shape, and the ninth expedition member who was skinned in Shennongjia has long been forgotten.
The story told by Zeng Guangyou made me feel creepy, and goosebumps also rose. I looked at the other people's expressions, and they were almost the same as me.
I coughed and drove the inexplicable fear out of my mind before I asked Zeng Guangyou, "How did you know about this?" ”
"Thirty-four years ago, the expedition team used to live in my house, and it was my father who took them into the mountain to be the guide of the mountain, and my father followed the whole process, including the human skin that was supported in the cave, which he also saw with his own eyes, but it was not until I became a tour guide that he told me about it, and warned me not to go off the normal tourist route, not to enter any unknown cave."
"Such a coincidence?!" I was a little surprised at our good fortune.
But Zeng Guangyou shook his head and said: "It's not a coincidence, I only saw Yongzhi's problem in the group today, and I've been busy outside for the past few days." ”
Wang Yongzhi hurriedly explained that he had added a group of people in the Shennongjia tourism industry, and on the day Qiao Wei came to Wang Yongzhi's house, Wang Yongzhi left a message in the group to ask if anyone knew the legend of the skinner, and emphasized that a pair of sisters may have been arrested by the skinner.
After leaving a message, Wang Yongzhi has also been paying attention to the dynamics in the group, but the replies he got are basically blessings such as "I hope to find your friend as soon as possible", and there is basically no information that is substantially helpful. At noon today, Zeng Guangyou left a message to Wang Yongzhi saying that he knew about the skinner, so Wang Yongzhi drove over to pick up Zeng Guangyou.
The information provided to us by Zeng Guangyou gave us a clue to continue the investigation, but this clue also obviously made Zhu Yue's mood go to the bottom.
The clothes of the two girls appeared in the mountains, which is exactly the same as the situation in which the clothes of the ninth expedition member were abandoned in the mountains, does this mean that the two girls are now dead? And also skinned? It's so cruel that I can't bear to think about it anymore.
I motioned to Shu Xin to go over and comfort Zhu Yue, after all, they are all women, and the way of thinking should be closer, people like me who think and do things with rough lines If they don't say a good word, maybe it will make Zhu Yue even more depressed.
Shu Xin understood and immediately sat down beside Zhu Yue to comfort her, while I continued to ask Zeng Guangyou if he had found the orphan manuscript of the Materia Medica, which he had lost.
Zeng Guangyou shook his head and said: "My dad didn't tell me about the original Materia Medica, he seems to be afraid that if he talks too much, he will cause trouble that will be difficult to get out of." If you want to know the specifics, I can take us to meet my father, after all, this is a matter of your friend's whereabouts, and maybe he will be willing to say something more valuable. But don't get your hopes up, I don't think it's very likely that he'll speak. ”
I understand the meaning of Zeng Guangyou's words. People go through something like that, just like I don't want to touch anything related to cannibals. However, Zeng Guangyou's father is something I have to meet anyway, and whether we can ask something can only depend on our eloquence or luck.
