Chapter 3: The Spirit Snake
readx; Anyone who has studied history knows that the Han people in Nanyue began in Daqin. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info that is to say, our ancestors only began to take root in Lingnan in the Qin Dynasty, and before that, Nanyue has always been the land of Baiyue, and the Baiyue people have a culture, that is, to take the snake as the spirit. Of course, this is also related to the fact that there are many snakes and insects in Lingnan, but it also shows the prevalence of snake culture in Lingnan. With the development of society, the land of Lingnan has also changed from a wild place in ancient times to a cement city today. But in some rural areas in Lingnan, the legend of the snake spirit still circulates. Today I want to talk about a snake story in the countryside where I live.
The story takes place on the east side of a large village, where there is a wasteland about the size of a factory. In the northeast of the middle of the wasteland, there is an old banyan tree that I don't know when it was planted, it is the kind of small-leaved banyan, I heard the old people in the village say that when they were born, the old tree was already like this, but it has not changed at all for almost a century. On the right side of the wasteland is a residential area, on the left hand side are several factories, and in front of it is a road. Near the banyan tree, there are several scattered lonely graves, which may be the reason why this wasteland can be preserved and not developed.
There has always been a story about the wasteland in this village, which says: A long time ago, there was a villager in the village, who was still a single person in his forties, and picked up a golden snake that didn't know what was going on and was dying during a labor, probably feeling lonely! The villagers took the little snake home and fed it with small shrimp and small fish, and when the little snake grew up, it did not have the cold-blooded ruthlessness of the snake, not only did not run, but was very close to the villagers, just like the villagers' pets. With the passage of time, the villagers slowly grew old, and the little snake was still alive, and its lifespan was far longer than that of ordinary snakes, but its body had grown to the thickness of a 7.8-year-old child's arm, and it still accompanied the villagers, so gentle that it didn't look like a snake at all. Until one day, due to age, the villagers left quietly on a summer evening, or the little snake crawled to a villager's house, knocked on the door with his body, the head of the household opened the door and saw the little snake, and then thought that the old villager might have an accident (everyone in the village knew that the old villager had such a special snake), and then notified the other villagers to go to the old villager's house together, only to know that the old villager had passed away! Since the old villager was lonely all his life, and there were no other relatives except for a snake, the villagers buried the old villager in the wasteland mentioned above and set up a simple tombstone. After the funeral of the old villagers, people found out that the little snake raised by the old villager didn't know when it was gone, but everyone didn't think too much about it, thinking that the little snake had returned to nature. Then they went home separately and continued their ordinary lives.
After a period of time, the villagers still live a peaceful life of sunrise and late return, but I don't know when it began, the villagers found that on the grave of the old villager in the wasteland, they often saw a snake with a thick golden arm standing up and looking at the tombstone of the old villager, and the people who saw it at first thought it was an illusion, but when more and more people saw it, everyone knew that it was the little snake back, and the strange thing is that every time the villagers who saw the little snake, some good things would happen in the near future, or they avoided some disasters, For example, when I caught Wang Bajia in the pond, the fruit tree that blew the typhoon but Zhong did not lose pollen, and the flower plate fell but just walked a step slower・・・・・・
Gradually, the villagers began to believe that the little snake should be a little dragon that fell from the sky, and it should be in the immortal class but because they couldn't forget the old villagers, they guarded this village. Therefore, the villagers began to spontaneously erect a small temple like land on the wasteland to worship the little snake. To this day, occasionally villagers see a snake in front of the lonely grave, and then encounter some good things or avoid some bad things! And that little temple is still enshrined in the wasteland!
