Chapter 4: The Blind Girl
My dad was eaten by those people, my mom was eaten by those people, and they were scrambling to let those people eat themselves first in order to make me live longer, even if they knew that I would be eaten soon. But they say that miracles will come, but it will take time, even if it takes life. Now you're here, my miracle. - Blind Girl
In front of us is a small settlement, about the size of a hundred people.
At the center of the settlement is a cauldron surrounded by what appears to be the bones of wild cattle and sheep. Closer away, there were new flesh-and-blood bones, but the shape of the bones looked more like a human being. The wood under the cauldron crackled and wailed, and the water in the pot boiled.
All members of the settlement live in tents, with large spaces between the tents for daily necessities.
Now you can see the figures of the stars falling, but you can't see the old people and children, and there seem to be only adults in this settlement. Spears and axes stood outside the tent.
As we approached, we were spotted by someone in the settlement. To be precise, it was the discovery of the White-Eyed Man (he never told me his name, so he could only call him that first), because no one in this world could see me and Dream except for the White-Eyed Man.
The man who had spotted him picked up the spear beside him, looked at him with a frown, squinted his eyes, and then pointed the spear at him and roared menacingly. Then I saw a dagger struck him in the forehead, and he fell straight down, and at some point, the dagger in his back pocket disappeared.
The movement caught the attention of the people in the settlement, and at the sound of one of them, hundreds of people emerged from the tent, armed with sharp spears and axes. Seeing that this ill-intentioned outsider who easily killed a fellow of his class, the people of the same unfriendly settlement had no intention of inviting you to sit down for a drink, and surrounded him with spears and axes.
"If he hangs up here, will my mission be completed?" I flipped through the living book, and the gray page sandwiched in the living book stayed there completely, without the slightest sign of burning, and the six big characters "The Future of the White-Eyed Man" were stupidly printed on it. The living book does not "speak".
He was as fearless as he had met us for the first time. Just glancing at the people who had surrounded him, and in a moment, the color of his eyes quickly faded and turned gray, and scales sprouted from his back, and even his skin grew into tight scales, and the muscles of his legs suddenly flare. But he didn't rush forward to kill like he did when he first met us, because the moment his eyes turned gray-white, the eyes of the settlers who were staring at him met and their eyes gradually turned gray-white, and the dense scales suddenly spread over their entire bodies like a tide. Their raised spears suddenly changed direction and stabbed at their companions. Some people who didn't see his eyes, after realizing that something was wrong around them, immediately showed a panicked expression, threw away their weapons and immediately turned around and fled in the opposite direction, but as soon as they turned their heads, they saw their companions who were already covered with scales. His companion's gray-white viper-like fierce eyes looked at him, and then the timid creature gradually turned into a white-eyed monster covered in scales.
The whole process took less than half a minute, and it was almost a settlement of hundreds of people, and all of them lost their ability to resist before they could scream. All of them, except for those who didn't have wings like him, became monsters like him. The white-eyed monsters didn't make a sound, and the whole settlement became deathly silent. His gray-white eyes gradually turned black, his wings became smaller, and he returned to his normal appearance again, but the people in the settlement in front of him still looked like monsters. With a wave of his hand, the "monsters" immediately moved out of the way, like an incomparably loyal soldier meeting their general.
I watched in amazement, and in less than a minute, he had one more army
He walked from tent to tent completely oblivious to my presence, even though I knew I wasn't something to be called something to exist. Then he picked up a spear and opened one tent after another, and no one remained in the tent for any other reason, and it was all the people of the whole settlement who had just come to "greet" him.
The blind girl is the only one in this settlement who does not come out, and we find this person in a tent in the far corner of this settlement, as I call her, she is a blind woman, and perhaps she is more appropriately described as "a girl who cannot see the world". Her feet were tied to a stake, and her hands were tied behind her back. When he entered the tent, she turned her head to this side, and then, to my surprise, she faced me again.
The white-eyed man walked up to her and lifted the dagger to her chin, her eyes were closed, but upon closer inspection, she could see that her eyelids were together, in other words, she was blind because she couldn't break open. But this can't hide her beauty, even if her eyes, which are the windows of the soul, have been closed.
He raised his dagger and stabbed her hard.
"Don't!" I shouted at him, but he was much faster than mine.
His dagger stopped before I could make a sound, less than a centimeter in front of the blind woman's neck. The blind girl faced him without changing her face.
"Aren't you afraid of me?" He asked her.
"After the worst thing has happened, there is no more thing to frighten people." She replied.
"I killed everyone in your settlement, and I'm going to kill you soon."
"Oh." The blind girl's answer was as if she had just said something that she had just said.
"Do you know who I am?" It was the first time I had ever seen him take an interest in someone else.
"I think I can guess who you are by now."
He picked up the dagger and raised the blind woman's chin like a prey, and there was something else hidden in his eyes, regret, regret, or something inexplicable.
"You should be what they call the "white-eyed snake demon". She tilted her head, unaware of the dagger under her chin.
"Then you should have heard that anyone who sees my eyes will become a monster like me. You're not scared at all? His dagger was lowered and retracted into the side pocket behind his back.
"I'm not afraid of you, because I can't see. I am not afraid of death, my death has long been controlled by others. After a pause, she said, "But I believe in miracles, and I believe that one day I will still be able to control my own life and death, just as my parents believed." ”
He looked at the blind girl carefully, the blind woman's thin body compared to the group of "monsters" outside the tent like ants to titans. "You didn't survive on someone else's death, did you?"
"Not all the people who survive now have chosen sin, and some people have persevered with difficulty."
"Where are your parents?"
"My dad was eaten by those people, my mom was eaten by those people, and they were trying to make me live longer, so that those people could eat themselves first, even if they knew that I would be eaten soon. But they say that miracles will come, but it will take time, even if it takes life. ”
He fell silent suddenly, and the air around him seemed to drop by tens of degrees Celsius.
"I also believe that miracles will come," said the blind girl, "even if today is the day they eat me." ”
He stared intently at the blind woman and pulled out a dagger from the side of his leg.
"Now, here you are, my miracle."
Hand up and knife down. The rope on the blind girl's body was completely cut. "You're free." With that, turn around and leave.
"Can you take me with you?" The blind girl stood up tremblingly, and then staggered.
He glanced back at her, like a chick that had just come out of its shell and was still unsteady on its way, and then ignored her and walked out of the tent.
The living book flew out of my pocket and stretched out his body in front of me, and a line of ink words flowed out of the white page like a dragon and a snake: "Take her!" She is the key to changing his future! ”
After reading these lines, I immediately flew in front of him and blocked his way. He looked at me like nothing and went straight through me.
"You should take her with you, I can see that you like her a lot." I said to his back.
"It's just sympathy."
"You need a friend."
"I don't need a friend, a friend is just a potential enemy who can get infinitely close to you, maybe one day, he will stab you to death."
"But you know she won't, and it's always good to have one more person with you, isn't it?" I racked my brains to come up with more to persuade him.
"I don't know, and besides, I don't need a drag." The tone of his voice is always irrefutable.
The blind girl chased after him from the tent and faced him as if she could see it, "I thank you for saving me. I can hear the truth of every word, and I can also feel the malice of people, if you are willing to take me, I will not drag you down. ”
He stood still, seemed to be thinking, was silent for a long time, and said, "I don't want you to follow me, if you follow me, I will kill you." Then he strode forward.
The blind girl was stunned for a moment, and then quickly followed.
"Didn't you understand what I was saying?" He said this without any nervousness or threat.
"I don't like to be tested, I can tell that your words are false." The blind female answerer, following in his footsteps. Although he couldn't open his eyes, he could follow him closely.
"I said it beforehand, I won't care if you live or die." As he said this, he smiled a little, rarely. Hearing this, the blind girl paused again and smiled.
I followed them closely, and in my pocket, the gray-white page with the words "The Future of the White-Eyed Man" in the living book burned violently, and in the short breath I hastily took out, the gray-white page was burned in half.
I took the half-burned gray page and fell into deep thought.
I also know a little bit about this world. Every fifty years, all the cattle and sheep in the world will make a large-scale migration, and no one will find their final destination, and this migration will last for two years, and after two years, all the cattle and sheep will return to their original places. And this is a world of meat eaters, and when the food is gone, they kill each other. No one will protect the weak, so cannibalism is allowed, because the weak cannot survive and they will definitely be eaten. Weak vegetarians were slaughtered and exterminated in that catastrophe a decade earlier. Weak meat eaters who can't protect themselves will be eaten by their own kind. Almost all of the meat eaters who are alive today survive by the death of the weak. The weak cannot survive in this world. But how did a blind girl who can't see the world survive? How did she survive the catastrophe 10 years ago? Why did the moment the white-eyed man promised the blind girl to follow him, half of the gray page that symbolized the white-eyed man's future burned down? I don't understand, I ask the dream, and the dream is just silent.
