Chapter 25: Between Black and White (3)
The sky is dotted with stars.
The town of Buck was silent. However, the ubiquitous soldiers and braziers lining the streets are a constant reminder to everyone that just over a month ago, a major event happened here that shocked the entire continent.
The dim red light of the fire almost turned the whole town red, and even in the middle of the night, there were still groups of soldiers passing and passing in the streets.
On the balcony of a mansion in the middle of the town, Shelley sat quietly, looking into the distance. Those eyes were already red and swollen from crying.
She is directly opposite the main road of the town. To the east, it leads to the rolling Cazecisis Mountains. The clouds in the distance were low, as if they were pressing down on the mountains, and together they merged into endless darkness.
That's where the moonlight can't shine.
Shelley sat quietly, in a daze, waiting. The blue, peaceful moonlight shone on her, reflecting a long blue dress.
On the balcony to the side, Levi stood cross-legged, glancing at Shelley from the corner of his eye every now and then.
In the prison beneath the mansion, fifty dwarves were locked in a small space with thick shackles. The sound of snoring, grinding teeth, and dreams came and went. The only awake mallet lay in a daze.
Just across the door from them was a magic circle that shimmered with a faint white light. Catherine, covered in wounds, curled up and hugged her knees. There was no sparkle in his eyes, and the feathers on his wings were already scattered.
The Knights of the Silver Moon and the Bone Horses, who had lost their magical reactions, were piled up in another cell like cargo, silently. There were also the bodies of several dwarves who had fallen in battle.
The worst is Andrew. He lost a hand and a leg, and was chained, unkempt, and even his mouth was gagged. In vain, he could only "whine" a vague passage. A fly landed on his forehead, and he shook his head desperately, but his neck was locked, and the shaking was not big enough, and the fly just wouldn't go.
For an elf, this is probably despair.
"Do you think someone will come to your rescue?" asked Shelley.
"No, it won't. Shelley turned his face sideways and whispered to Levi, "I hope he doesn't come to save us, but goes back to the Duchy of Beshir, moves the rescue troops, and then comes back to tear you apart." β
"Hehe, you've been with him for so long, you don't even know he's surrounded by a bunch of dark creatures. Levi tilted his head slightly and said, "Do you see the little house in front of you?" Two little bloods are tossing inside. β
......
In the small house, Jones and Dora, who had taken off their armor, were looking anxiously in the direction of the mansion.
"We should move a little closer, and then sneak up at night, and save a few. Then we have more people to save!"
"Stupid! That's a bunch of first-class angels! How can we save people if we accidentally have to go in ourselves?"
"What then? We can't save them?"
"We'll have to wait for that guy to come back. We can't deal with the angels, not even their fingers. β
"But...... They said he was dead. β
"Who said that?"
"Neighbor Next Door ......"
"Why are you listening to that kind of?" Jones scoffed, "Our bone horse can still move, which means that he is not dead, and his magic is not completely broken." As long as we stay here, he'll be back. At every opportunity, we save people. β
"Hmm!" Dora nodded heavily.
......
Levi leaned over the balcony fence and whispered, "They thought we hadn't spotted them, but they didn't know that they were a decoy." I heard that the Angelic Inquisitor was after Vivien. Soon, Gray will lose even the power from hell. β
"Whatever the means, he will definitely come back. Taking a deep breath, Shelley said stubbornly, "Even if he is in the company of dark creatures, he is the kindest and most upright paladin in my heart. He will surely defeat you. β
Levi sneered: "On this continent, no human can defeat us. β
"It's not just humans......" Shelley said blankly, staring into the distance, "There is no living creature in this world who can defeat my paladin, and neither can the Holy Spirit. β
......
In the cavern, Gray sat quietly, watching the bonfire grow smaller.
The well-fed black cat was already lying on the side and began to snore.
"What are you thinking?" asked Vivien.
Gray quickly turned his face to the side.
Vivien leaned her face on her lap and whispered, "You don't have to sleep, you don't have to rest." So if you don't speak, you must be thinking something. β
Gray lowered his head, picked up a piece of wood and threw it into the campfire, and said, "I'm thinking about how to save Shelley." β
"You still want to go back and save them...... Four first-class angels. I can't beat even one. β
"But I have to save it. Not just Shelley, but also Jean II and Camilla. A trustworthy person deserves a good outcome and not suffers from it. β
"Save me, save Shelley, save Jean II...... You want to save the whole world. Vivien looked at the burning bonfire and whispered, "I don't think the Holy Spirit has as much ambition as you." An alternative ambition is not to conquer, but to save. To be the righteous who walks in the world and lives. It takes strength, a lot of power. But you don't. If you were a 10,000-year-old lich, I don't think they would do that to you. Don't dare. β
......
The angel outside the cave lurked silently, waiting.
......
"Like Brutus, no angel dares to provoke him. Gray lowered his head and said, "And I have to wait another 10,000 years...... But they can't wait, justice that is late is not justice. Not to mention justice that is 10,000 years late. β
"If there really is walking and living justice in this world, how can a demon become a demon?"
"Didn't you already promise me to stick to the Divine Faith together?"
"I mean other demons. Vivien sat on her knees and smiled, "Gray, if they do find me, don't save me." β
"Why? Don't you want to die?"
"Because you really can't save it. The contract between the Holy Spirit and the Demon Lord is not something that can be easily changed by any paladin, demon, or angel. I want you to live, live well. Be a powerful, righteous lich. Promise me, keep the idea now and don't let anyone pollute you. There are too many powerful beings in this world, and their power is so strong that we can't look up to it. I don't know what they used to be like, but when they were strong, they lost their faith. Because they are faith in themselves...... The Holy Spirit is not worthy of your trust, and neither are demons. You just have to believe in yourself and live well...... Live to the day when you are strong enough. β
"But what if...... If I don't believe in the Holy Spirit, what can I do to negotiate with them, what can I do to save you?"
"Anyway, I want you to remember what I said. Vivien smiled sweetly and looked at Gray.
......
The angel lurking outside the cave was suddenly stunned for a moment and turned around.
He saw a little white light in the starry sky. It was the Angelic Jury. Plus himself and Abd, a full forty-eight first-class battle angels, and one wise angel.
......
Gray stood up slowly with his sword in hand, looked at Vivien and said, "I will not give up my faith in the Holy Spirit, not until the Holy Spirit tells me that they have given up on me." It is they who give life to the Divine Faith, and I will always uphold it. But that doesn't mean I'm going to compromise. I will not wait and I will not give up on you. Retreat, to compromise, is in itself a denial of the Divine Faith. If I can't save the whole world, then I'll start with what I can. As I said, I am not afraid of death, I am afraid of the disillusionment of faith. Only the sacred faith that unswervingly moves forward is the sacred faith. β
"I just like the way you look. Vivien smiled even sweeter: "No one can convince you, stubborn." More like a demon than a demon. If you look like this, I can rest assured. β
At this point, the smile on Vivien's face slowly disappeared again, leaving only the bland, quietly staring at Gray.
"Here they are. β
......
"Gray, Grayββ! it's me, Abbot!" Exbald cried out helplessly, standing in front of the cavern.
Behind him were forty-eight angels. The white light emitted from his body even illuminated the woods in front of the cave. Belinda, the wise angel who is the presiding judge, is also among them. It is a female angel with long golden shining hair, four white wings that distinguish her from other angels, wearing a white robe, barefoot, and wearing a white human face mask with only eyes and nose and no lips. No one could see her face clearly.
"Gray, come out! I want to talk to you!" Ebold continued to cry out helplessly.
"When he comes out, we'll sneak into the cave and take Vivien away. In that case, nothing will happen. The angels whispered.
However, they were wrong.
Gray took Vivien's hand and walked out.
All the angels froze.
Holding Vivien's hand, Gray walked with difficulty, until he knelt down on one knee in front of the angels.
Vivien also knelt down, her face expressionless.
"Hello, Honorable Judge Belinda, I am Paladin Gray, a Holy Spirit-canonized Paladin, the only saint on the continent, and a lich. I know what you're here for, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. But I beg you to forgive Vivien for her sins. Now she is my disciple. I am willing to pardon her with my privilege as a paladin, take her with me, guide her, enlighten her until she fully accepts the Divine Faith and becomes one of us. If you refuse, then I am willing to exchange everything I have for her freedom, including my life, and I am willing to bear all the punishment for her. For the sake of the Holy Faith, accept the prayers of a devout believer. β
As he spoke, Gray reverently drew a cross on his chest, slowly tilted his head, and looked at Belinda.
The wind blew gently, and the leaves under the shimmer shone and swayed gently in the wind.
