Chapter 25: The World Beyond the Door

For a moment I didn't realize what was going on. Why are there no light spots here? Normally, there should have been a door blocking the pillar of light from the miner's lamp, but not anymore. In our understanding, the space must be closed, and the outside is full of deadly hot water vapor, and no one will open the door.

And this door is not something that can be opened by one person casually. When I finally realized what was going on, my whole body stiffened.

Is it time to run away? The situation of where to flee was completely unexpected, and everyone froze.

"When did this door open?" Chen Zaihai asked stunned.

No one could answer his question, "I don't know, I think you should ask why we're still alive" Taria's voice sounded the same undulating.

I was indeed open, not half-open and half-hidden, but completely open. Outside, there was a deep darkness that was hard to see, and the beam of the miner's lamp was completely engulfed.

Is this really still the inside of the power station? I don't think the space outside is really empty, right? It stands to reason that the beam of the miner's lamp will shine directly on the opposite wall to form a spot of light. But now it was not the case at all, and the pillar of light passed straight through it, as if it had shot into a void

The hot steam that should have filled the entire space also disappeared without a trace, as if they had never existed at all. I even had the illusion that this was still the real world. Are we dead, and this is the other side of the bridge

The corpses were gone, the flashing emergency lights were gone, and even the ground didn't seem to be the concrete floor it used to be. Time was hard, and no one dared to confirm what had happened first. What exactly happened during this time that we were unconscious?

The temperature around me went down, I glanced at the thermometer, it had dropped to close to 10 degrees, damn it, I don't know anything else, but we really seem to have run somewhere else.

But how is this done? Could it be that someone has moved all of us somewhere else while we were in a coma? Is this possible, but no matter how I look at it, it's exactly like the shelter where we lived, even the bodies of the previously cremated task forces.

Why wouldn't those people carry a charred corpse that would fall all over the ground at the slightest touch?

Is that the entire shelter moved? Isn't this even more difficult, this is not a cardboard box that can be seen everywhere, and it can be moved.

A faint wind blew in from outside the doorway, and the air was mixed with the familiar smell of sulfur. The smell was so strong that it didn't look like it could be smelled inside a power plant, and it looked like it was in a volcanic tunnel before. The light from the miner's lamp began to flicker, and it looked like it was about to run out of power. Talia pulled out a replacement battery from her backpack, and after a brief moment of darkness, the light pillar of the miner's lamp cut through the darkness again. We still don't dare to act rashly, it's like God has played a malicious joke on us, we know that there are ghosts in it, but we have no choice.

My attention was drawn to the corner of the room, the vent. At some point it was plugged up, and something resembling a steel pillar protruded from it. What's going on? It seems that not only the outside, but also the room itself has undergone some kind of change.

The ceiling too, the huge fan overhead started at some point. There is also a red light shining down on it, and the intensity of the light is very low, and you can't find it if you don't pay special attention. It turns out that there are also emergency lights on it.

"Shouldn't we go out and have a look?" Chen Zaihai proposed.

No one responded, and there really wasn't a need to respond. That's the only option available, get out or just rot in it. Sometimes, many people like to complain that they don't know what to do, whether to do this number or that. I can only say that you are really in the midst of blessings and do not know blessings, and those who have choices are often the happiest people.

It's not like we can only go one way to the dark along the way, there are no branches, and we are not allowed to go back.

I've never been a believer in fate, whether it's what happened to me when I was young, or what happened to me afterwards. It doesn't mean that I was a special person, such experiences were very common in those days, and even Talia was very similar to me. However, sometimes I still envy her, at least she was adopted by Ivan in the end, and she had to continue to live a lonely life on her own.

Even so, I still don't want to believe that this is my fate, and I don't want to believe the nonsense that Wang Tianshi said at all. Maybe I was resigned to my previous life, maybe there wasn't much of my own will, but in the end it was my choice. I will take it myself, and I will not complain.

I think everyone here should have the same thoughts as me, and that's why we survived the Red Storm that followed.

We stayed stupidly for dozens of minutes, there was no movement outside, nothing suddenly appeared, and nothing suddenly came in. In short, it was so quiet that I could faintly hear the sound of my own blood flowing through the arteries.

In the end, Chen Zaihai couldn't help it, he picked up the only working miner's lamp in Taria's hand, and walked towards the airtight door that was wide open.

Without allowing me to stop him, he crossed that line, a line that we had never dared to cross. After that, nothing happened.

Just when I was about to go out to see what was wrong with Chen Zaihai, Talia stopped me. Her expression was very solemn, don't be impatient, if something really happened outside, Chen Zaihai could solve it alone. Even if he can't solve it, it's no problem to escape back with his skills.

"You don't want to go over and make trouble for him." Talia suggested.

It makes me uncomfortable to hear this, am I just a burden? But after calming down, I thought about what Talia said did have some point. I have been rescued by Chen Zaihai several times, and I often can't play a huge role in critical moments. Sometimes, because they lose their cool, they bring unnecessary danger to the team.

It's unwilling, but I can only endure it like this. Talia is right, instead of arguing with her here, let's find a way to make myself useful.

I think my own face must be ugly at this time, no matter what, being looked down upon by a woman, as a man's face is still unbearable.

It didn't take long for Chen Zaihai's greeting to come from outside. He seems to have made some big discovery, yelling at us to come over. We were immediately relieved that at least there was no danger outside, and that the hot steam really seemed to be gone.

But as soon as we all walked out of this shelter, we realized that things were unfolding as if they were all too unexpected.

It's not the power plant we entered before, it's not even the cave with a big lake in the middle. It was a very spacious room, definitely a lot bigger than the corpse-strewn room where the previous vault was located. That's why the pillar of light from the miner's lamp just now couldn't shine on the end.

The room was filled with a mess of cables and wires, all of which converged into a huge cabinet-like black shadow. It's as if I've seen it there, and the light of Chen Zaihai's miner's lamp is shooting out from behind the dark shadow.

When we joined Chen Zaihai, my sense of immediacy became even stronger

"Chen Zaihai, Talia, don't you think this thing looks familiar?" I couldn't help but ask out loud.

"It's not just familiar, isn't this the power distribution we've seen in the power distribution station before?" Chen Zaihai shook the miner's lamp.

"It's not just this thing that's familiar, you look at it." Talia pointed to a corner of the room.

Yes, I was also very impressed by that place, which was a flight of stairs going up. The pure black paint is the same as the distribution station we have been to.

I said no, and to confirm my hunch, we ran quickly to the stairs. Sure enough, the upper floor of this staircase looks like this.

The second floor was empty, and the whole was also pitch black. There was a rusty iron ladder that led straight to the ceiling. Sure enough, this is a power distribution station!

I panicked and went up the ladder and came out of the entire façade of the building. The exit is indeed on the roof, that is

The whole building has an eerie black color, it looks like a black box, not an exaggeration to say that it is a coffin, and it is not the first time we have dealt with this thing.

The strong smell of sulfur, the potholed surface, the blood-colored walls that had long since dried up, and the railroad tracks that slowly disappeared into the darkness in front of them were all so familiar. I thought of those horrible bugs, the power distribution station that had lost so much, and this place, wasn't this the volcanic tunnel we had traversed before!

Why are we coming back? We were each stunned for a few seconds, and immediately we heard Talia swearing in the darkness in Russian, which I didn't understand, but it was obviously not a good word. Chen Zaihai also sighed and smiled bitterly at us.

Inexplicably, I felt a wave of irritability in my heart, we were already cornered, and this time we died more completely. If we go down the railroad track, we may return to that cave with strange stone henge, which is a loop!

We just thought we had escaped to heaven, but before we knew it, we fell into another cycle! How can this not be a source of despair, and the deepest despair is nothing more than that

After giving hope, no matter how strong you are, you can't stand this reciprocating cycle. I sat on the floor weakly, not thinking about anything.

What strange tunnels, what shelters, why we came back to this place, and how the shelters moved to this place. I really don't want to think about these things anymore, I'm so tired, I really just want to take a good rest.

With a bang, something seemed to have happened behind me, and the creaking sound was endless. What's wrong with that

In desperation, I slowly turned my gaze to the black building we had just come out of
