Chapter 51: Let's Talk
I really don't know what's wrong today, I'm a little panicked, I want to talk to everyone and release myself.
It's the kind of nonsense between friends, it's not that formal.
Let's start with the book, "Forensic Contraindications". From the current point of view, from time to time, people ask me, since this book is written about forensics, why is it different from other forensic books? Why don't you learn from them and introduce more professional and technical knowledge of forensics?
To be honest, I don't know how to answer this question, and I don't even have a clear answer to it, but that doesn't mean I'm writing blindly and scribbling.
It's kind of intentional. Before I started the book, I wrote the beginnings of three editions, each with a manuscript of 350,000 words.
The first edition, without further ado, was the first pass, which I consider to be a scrap. The second edition, like traditional forensic books, is very professional, and the book is full of plots about how forensic doctors dissect and find evidence and how to assist in solving crimes.
But half a week later, I rejected the idea for the simple reason that it was too traditional, the plot was bland, and there was no bright spot in my ideals.
I also asked a few senior editors for advice at that time, is it okay to write like this myself? The editors' views are different, some think that forensic books should be written like this, and some think that it is really impossible to find fault with writing like this? But will it be a book that everyone likes and wants to read?
I remember very clearly, and I even had a very good friend, who knew me well and said something like this, "Lao Jiu, have you forgotten your original intention?" Your books have always had their own style, but now they are limited by the rules and regulations of forensic books, and you can't use them to your advantage. ”
I was inspired by these words to write the third edition, which is the version you see today.
Yes, I admit that in this version, the forensic stuff has a small proportion, just as a technical connotation, or a kind of cultural heritage, interspersed in the plot. For the space saved, I use it to create an atmosphere and describe more plots that make everyone excited.
I'm a very simple person, maybe I want things to be simple. From a personal point of view, I have always had a position on novels, novels are not social science essays, not essays, not documentary, but a kind of artistic creation, the biggest difference between art and documentary is to dare to innovate, dare to break the tradition, and even make appropriate amplification on the basis of reality.
The earliest book I read was Master Jin Yong's "Smiling Proud Jianghu". At the age of sixteen, he was also learning martial arts, and he was the little apprentice of Liu Siye, the iron sand palm of Liaoxi, a branch of Shaolin. After reading Jin Yong's book, my first feeling was that it is impossible to have such a powerful or even anti-heaven martial arts in reality, which is obviously magnified, but I have to admit that it is very refreshing to read. It later became a classic that has influenced generations.
I'm a small character, I can't compare with the master, but I adhere to this concept, fiction is art, don't follow the old path, I am me, don't be afraid of failure.
Let's go back to the book, there is not much written in the "Forensic Taboo File" now, and in the future, I guess there will be more people who will question my writing method and question what I wrote.
I would say that the field of forensics is huge, and it's not just about anatomy. It is preliminarily divided into, forensic scene, forensic poisoning, forensic clinical, forensic genetics, and further subdivision, as well as bloodstain identification, skull restoration, suspect sketches, and so on.
I think since there is such a big category and so many things to write about, why not use it to set off the plot and give full play? Special case team, field reasoning, forest crime, urban adventure, etc., and even the forensic doctor no longer retreats into the background, can he use his unique professional knowledge to rush to the front line, like the special police, and fight wits and courage with the murderer?
I really didn't know why, so I wrote it down. If this book fails, I have no regrets, and I will regard it as a kind of brick throwing.
Speaking of which, I suddenly had a bit of a ridiculous feeling about myself.
Old book lovers know that I started trying to write suspense books in August 2012, and for more than two years, I have written five books successively, each time trying to innovate, and I also published "Strange Case Record" at the beginning of this year, but so far, I still have achieved nothing.
Of course, if you have to put gold on your face, some things can also be taken out and said, such as "Strange Case Record", which is a book recommended by many bookstores as a key recommendation, and has been the top five on the best-selling list of suspense reasoning in Xinhua Bookstore within half a year of its listing. The Chinese Book Club ranked the most popular writers in 2014, and 180 writers were selected, and I was lucky enough to rank 71 and so on.
But it's all virtual, just an ethereal aura. I'm a book writer! I spent two and a half years focusing on the study of suspenseful writing skills, but I haven't even reached the first glimpse of the door, and I'm still slamming the door with Wang Ba's fist.
In life, I have always been a tight person, without a job, writing full-time, and using the manuscript money to barely make ends meet, and sometimes I don't even count as a living, just a living.
Maybe some people don't believe it here, saying that my trick record isn't selling well? How can you have no money?
I really didn't get a lot of money, and after the publication, it went down layer by layer, and when it was my turn, it was just hard money, and this year I got sick, retinal detachment, had surgery and took medicine, and spent almost all that little savings.
If you think about it, this kind of tight life also has something to do with the books I wrote, because I am very tough, suspense is suspense, without any ambiguity and emotional scenes, which also leads to my books have always been niche, and the manuscript fee is not high.
But I don't regret it. I have a dream of writing a book, and I just want to write the book I want to write, to innovate, without considering the so-called commercialization techniques.
If I can get through it, I'll keep writing like this, and if I can't get through it, I'll go to work, look back, and at least once I've had the addiction of writing books.
In fact, aren't many people like this? Stick to a dream, spend a few years, decades to fight for it, they don't think about whether they will succeed in the end, they just want to work hard, no regrets are enough.
I've written so much in a flash, I won't complain anymore, I'll almost take it. While you're in a better mood, hurry up and write a book and prepare for the next chapters.
Finally, thank you for coming to sharpen iron to support my book fans, because only when the data of grinding iron is high and the value of various recommendation votes is high, can I have a manuscript fee and an income to ensure my life and writing.
See you tomorrow, everyone!
