Chapter 114: The Story of Karis

When the windows shatter, Barbara reflexively takes a fighting stance and prepares to deal with the intruder. But soon, she remembered that now she was just the eldest sister of the police chief's family, not a bat girl who flew off the wall in the middle of the night.

The moonlight poured down on the ground, and the black bats straightened out of the shards of glass, and the fiery red shawl hair, pale and colorless skin, and the dark cloak that hung on the ground like a tuxedo, made her look like a vampire.

But Barbara knew she wasn't. She's Batwoman and her name is Kate? Kane, theoretically an ally of the Winged Knight now.

Detective McRody's first reaction was to quickly pull Barbara's wrist behind him, quickly pull out a gun and point it at Batwoman, shouting: "Stay there and don't move!" If you dare to move, I'll do it."

She didn't have time to finish the second half of the sentence, because Batwoman's shadowless kick had already hit her in the chest. Detective McRody smashed over a cabinet containing dishes and bottles, spilling glass, porcelain and drinks on the floor.

Batwoman ignores Barbara and strides to catch up with the fallen detective. But behind her, a man held her shoulder.

"That's enough." The Winged Knight said coldly, "What are you doing here?" ”

Batwoman glanced at him and swept Roy's hand away from her shoulder.

"Same purpose as you, I think." She," this woman knows some clues about the Fallen Knight. She is likely to be in league with the Knight, and may know some important clues about the Fallen Knight's identity. But she's unlikely, and that's okay, I'll force her. ”

Detective McRody sat up in embarrassment: "Actually, you don't have to. I can tell you everything about the Fallen Knight, with whom I disowned not long ago. ”

"We'd all love to hear about it here," Roy said. ”

"Well, I'll tell you everything I know about the Fallen Knight, starting with who she is." She paused here deliberately, as if to accentuate the weight of the name even more, "Karis? Kearns. ”

"Wait," Barbara said in surprise, "are you, the vigilante who flew around the house that night with a serious violent tendency, n■n■n■n■, m.≯.c⌒om is in fact the youngest councillor in Gotham?" ”

"That's it." "It sounds incredible, but that's because you don't know her. If you know the story behind her, you won't be surprised why she's so extreme. ”

She pulled over a chair and sat down, asking, "Do you need to sit?" ”

No one responded, which probably meant "not needed".

She sighed and said, "Many people don't know that Karis's life only began at the age of sixteen. Her father used to be a business tycoon, and her family was quite wealthy. And there was hardly any contradiction between her parents - at least to outsiders. A happy family, with more money than it can spend in several lifetimes, is already a template for a perfect life in anyone's eyes. ”

"But it's not that simple, especially in a city like this. When Karis was sixteen years old, a madman with severe mental problems broke into her home, not only killing everyone but herself, but also disemboweling every member of her family in front of her. It took the madman three hours to kill her parents and a younger brother. Her family's blood almost became a pond, and she soaked in it. You can imagine what a blow it was to a sixteen-year-old girl. ”

"But that's not all there is to the nightmare. The madman ran away, and the police had no clues to track him down or even prove his existence, so they assumed that Karis himself was insane. They thought that Karis had killed his own family, and then made up a story about a mad killer who was supposed to be the killer herself. As a result, she was imprisoned in the Arkham Asylum. It wasn't until later, when she was an adult, that she was convicted of being restored to normal and released, which was fairly easy, because she wasn't crazy when she was locked in. ”

Detective Merrody poured himself a glass of water, swallowed two sips, and continued, "Later, she changed her name to 'Karis?' Kearns', spending money to erase all of her own bad past, along with the death of her family. As for what her original name was, there is no record of it being found, but it doesn't matter. She is now a senator, and she has learned a great skill from somewhere, calling herself a 'Fallen Knight'. ”

After a moment of silence, Barbara asked, "So, McKenna, tell me, how did you meet her?" ”

Merrody glanced at her and sighed, "When Karis was imprisoned in Arkham, there was a large-scale riot in Arkham. Not the last time the ugliness was triggered, but even earlier. ”

"A bunch of lunatics ran out of their cages, snatched the guards' guns, and tried to take control of the madhouse. A lot of people died that day. "Melody flashed a look of bitter remembrance," said Director Gordon, who organized a large number of men to rush into Arkham in an attempt to salvage the situation. A large number of hostages were taken inside, and the probability of survival of the hostages was assessed to be almost nil. I subdued one of my Iron Sisters in the SWAT team, took her place, and broke into it with the SWAT team. ”

"You know you're risking your career." Roy asked faintly, "Why?" ”

Detective Merrody closed his eyes: "Because of a guard, a hostage, that's my husband, Nathaniel." ”

"Director James? Gordon wanted us to wait, but because it was the mayor's election year, the mayor dismissed his suggestion. Detective McRody's expression twitched as if he were reliving a nightmare, "They covered everything up and kept what was going on inside out of the world." It was simply the scene of the massacre, a hell decorated with blood! ”

"I fantasized there was a silver lining." She, "So I rushed to the front and didn't wait for my teammates." And then I really saw that my Nat was still alive! But that didn't make me excited. When I entered that room, a madman put a gun to Nat's head and threatened me to take him out, and I "

Her voice choked and she covered her face with her hands.

"What did you do? Merrody? Barbara asked.

"My mind went blank, I didn't do anything. I just stayed there stupidly, watching the pistol against my husband's temple and spitting out tongues of fire, oh my God."

Barbara comfortingly patted the detective on the shoulder. Roy then asked, "Then what does this have to do with Karis?" ”

"Karis was the only witness." "The room we were in was her cell. The girl cowered into the cell and witnessed the whole thing. Later, after she successfully appealed and was released from the madhouse, she spent a lot of money to bribe a large number of judges, prosecutors' offices at all levels, and many policemen - I was one of them. Once, I thought that her view was correct, and that both madmen and criminals should be killed. But well, I don't want that anymore, that's not right. ”

"The time I realized I should quit was when she told me a wicked plan," she said. She, she wants to rid Gotham City of all the evils, all the criminals. I knew it couldn't be done in theory, but she was so serious that I could tell she wasn't joking. I don't know what she's going to do, but whatever her plan is, it's going to be huge. Somebody has to stand up and stop her, or I have a hunch that it will be another catastrophe. ”

At this point, the landline of Detective McRody's house rang.

She was stunned and walked over to pick up the earpiece. Two seconds later, she looked blank and pressed the hands-free button.

"We've been watching over here." On the phone, a woman's voice came out, "Good evening, the fighters who are looking for me." I'm a Fallen Knight, and I'm sure you've just known me. ”
