Chapter 114: The Sacrifice is the Son
The Nile Delta has no four seasons, and there are only two distinct seasons in this year: the dry season and the rainy season.
At this time, the rainy season is coming, and the land is full of rainfall, green fields and farms, and rivers with abundant water.
Isaac was a sturdy boy, and during this beautiful season, he always frolicked in the river with his companions, or caught some fish and shrimp.
This morning had just rained, the sky was blue, and the breeze was caressing the water, and Isaac and his companions were playing in the river as usual, not knowing that a man with a sad face was being made on the riverbank.
Abram sat on the embankment and looked at his son, with an unspeakable pain in his heart. The craftsmen behind him picked up their tools and went to the northwest hill to cast the altar.
At this time, Abram understood that when the altar was cast, it might be the time of his only son's death.
After a moment of silence, Isaac called.
The son did not see the sorrow written on his father's face, but he looked at Abram with big innocent eyes and asked, "Father, what do you want me to do?" ”
Abram took his son's hand and said, "Come home with me." ”
Isaac asked, somewhat puzzled, "What happened father, I still want to play a little longer." ”
Abram firmly took his son by the hand and said, "Go home, and I will let your mother cook the most delicious food for you." ”
Hearing this, Isaac no longer had the urge to return to the river, and happily followed his father home.
When he returned home, Abram told the cook to hurry up and to have the servant bathe Isaac and change his clothes. Isaac was a little baffled by his father's actions.
After taking a shower, Isaac, dressed in new clothes, waited early in the restaurant for the delicious food that his father had said.
The truth is, sure enough, Isaac was not disappointed, and the table was filled with all kinds of delicious food. Marinated pork tossed with fresh vegetables and sauces. Premium white bread with pure stuffed olive oil and a whole roasted leg of lamb. Seeing Isaac's appetite suddenly opened.
Abram said, "Eat, my child, these are yours?" ”
"Really?" Isaac couldn't believe his father's words, for he had never said such a thing every time he ate.
Abram said, "It's true, eat it quickly." ”
"What about Mother?" Isaac couldn't get any longer, but he still asked.
Abram said, "I told her to see your grandfather, and she will not return until tomorrow." ”
"Then I'll eat it!" Isaac finally couldn't hold it anymore and began to feast.
Abram, who sat across the table, was drinking wine to numb his nerves and keep it from convulsing.
When Isaac had eaten and drunk, Abram said, "Son, it's getting late, go to bed." I'm going to take you out tomorrow. ”
"Where to go?" Isaac asked.
"Don't ask! You'll know when you go. Abram changed his commanding tone.
Isaac was a little discouraged, and he did not dare to disobey his father's wishes, so he obediently walked back to his bedroom.
That night, Abram stayed awake all night, and he sat on the stone bench at the door in a daze until dawn.
The next morning, Abram woke Isaac.
Isaac found that his father had finished packing, and that the cloth bag behind him was filled with fire oil. He asked his father, "Where are we going?" ”
Abram said, "I will take you to sacrifice to God." ”
When Isaac had finished washing, he followed his father to the mountains to the northwest.
Before dawn, the builder of the altar returned and told Abram that the altar had been repaired and was ready to be opened.
Father and son walked in the morning breeze thinking about the mountain, which the Hebrews called Mount Moriah, which was not too steep, and at noon they climbed the hill and saw the makeshift altar.
When the son saw that his father's hands were empty, he asked, "Father, how can you sacrifice without an offering for sacrifice?" ”
Abram took a deep breath and said, "God will prepare the offerings himself, and we will only have to perform the steps of the sacrifice." Don't ask, just follow me. ”
When the two men had reached the bottom of the altar, which was already full of firewood for burning, Abram knelt down under the altar and bowed to the sky, muttering words in his mouth.
Although Isaac did not know what his father was praying for, he did not dare to make a fool of himself in the face of such a sacred moment, so he had to kneel beside Abram in silence.
Then Abram suddenly asked his son, "Son, if one day God needs you and wants to summon you, will you go to him?" ”
Isaac shook his head and said, "I haven't seen God, and I don't know if I'll go." ”
Abram asked, "As God's people, are you willing to give everything for God?" ”
"What about you? Father, are you willing to give everything for God? Isaac naively asked Abram.
Abram looked up at the sky, sighed and said, "I thought I could, but ............"
"But what? Father? ”
Abram stood up and said, "I have thought about it for a long time, and I have found that it is my sin that I still cannot serve God with all my heart. ”
"What crime have you committed?" Isaac asked.
Abram said, "What God has asked me to do, I have very hard to do." ”
"What kind of thing is that?"
Abram stared at his son for a long time, then finally bit his lip and said, "Son, please don't blame me! I can't say no to what God tells me to do! ”
After saying this, he suddenly took out the rope from his body and tied it up with Isaac.
Isaac was taken aback and hurriedly asked, "Father, what are you going to do?" ”
Abram took his son on his shoulders and went up to the altar and said, "I will make you an offering for a burnt offering." ”
Isaac cried out, "Father, why are you doing this? ”
Abram also cried out in grief: "This is the will of God, and I cannot disobey it." ”
Isaac was so frightened that he wept and cried, and from his father's determined eyes, he felt that Abram was not joking, but really wanted to sacrifice himself, and he seemed extremely frightened, and he continued to faint in the face of death.
Abram's tears flowed out, and he choked, but he held back his grief and lit the firewood and poured oil on it to make it burn even more.
The son placed it like a sacrifice in front of the fire, and according to the steps of the sacrifice, the living best was first disemboweled, the internal organs were taken out and sent to the fire, then the blood of the sacrifice was sprinkled around the altar, and finally the flesh on the body was divided and thrown into the fire one by one to worship the true God.
And the sacrifice at this time was his own son.
Abram had already pulled out the dagger from his waist, pressed his left hand to his son's neck, and raised the sharp knife in his right hand, and his heart trembled at the sight of the fear on the child's face.
However, God's will did not dare to be disobeyed, and the sacrifice had already begun, and it could not be stopped, and at that moment, Abram held back the tears that were about to fall, and his raised right hand fell sharply. (To be continued.) )
