Chapter 4: Confluence

The sun hadn't come out yet, and when the sky was just dawning, I was woken up by Zhang Yu in a daze, and my first feeling was soreness all over my body.

The wind and sand almost every other day, Zhang Yu and I didn't find any footsteps left by others along the way.

At noon, the sun came out. Zhang Yu and I were both drenched, Zhang Yu handed me a bottle of mineral water, and said solemnly from time to time: "This is your day's water."

I took the mineral water, and for the first time I felt that the water was so cherished, and I took a few sips.

In the afternoon, the sky suddenly darkened, and the temperature around it suddenly dropped. Zhang Yu, who was walking in front, did not relax for a moment with a pistol in his hand, and turned his head to the back from time to time.

Gradually, Zhang Yu turned back more and more frequently, and his face became more solemn.

This time, I had a heart, and when I saw Zhang Yu turn around, I hurriedly turned around first, looked back, and took a sharp breath of cool air, and there was a black shadow in the distance behind me, and the black shadow found that we had found it, and immediately ran to the side.

I looked at the black shadow in the distance, and looked at the figure, obviously not like the previous guide, but a little similar to my uncle, I couldn't help but be stunned in place, could it be that there are other people here besides me and my uncle?

Zhang Yu didn't say much, still led the way, I followed behind, and turned back from time to time, but I never saw the black shadow again.

Towards the end of the evening, when Zhang Yu and I were just about to rest, there was a trace of blood on the sand in front of us. Zhang Yu rushed to the front, I followed closely behind, only to see a person lying in the distance in front of me, it was a monkey.

When I got closer, the monkey was in terrible condition. It seems to have been bitten by a centipede, the face is black, and the lips are purple, which is obviously a sign of poisoning, if it weren't for the monkey's good physique, the average person would have died a long time ago.

The monkey seemed to notice that someone was coming, and his first reaction was to quickly pick up the gun in his hand and try to shoot at us. Zhang Yu hurriedly stopped and put his face in front of the monkey, and the monkey saw that it was us, with a hint of a smile on his face, and fainted.

Zhang Yu motioned for me to come over and help, and the two of us put the monkey's head on our clothes, and I hurriedly opened the box, which contained several vaccines and antivenom. I looked at Zhang Yu, my hand hanging in the air, not knowing whether to inject antivenom on the monkey, afraid that the monkey would go into anaphylactic shock.

Zhang Yu seemed to have thought of this, frowned, and then made up his mind to take antivenom. I grabbed the monkey's arm with the needle, but the monkey's muscles were so tight that the needle couldn't penetrate it. I hurriedly asked Zhang Yu next to me for help. Zhang Yu didn't say a word, stepped forward, patted the monkey on the shoulder with his right hand, the monkey screamed in a muffled voice, his whole body suddenly relaxed, and his eyes opened. I hurriedly inserted the syringe in. The monkey smiled at us and fell asleep again.

After that, we moved the monkey's head to the box and looked around the monkey, except for a pistol, the backpack on the body was long gone, Zhang Yu and I deeply felt the severity of the situation. The current water would have lasted for another day at most, and now with the monkeys, it is only enough for half a day. When it was late at night, Zhang Yu was lying on his side, with his back to him, not knowing whether he was really sleeping or thinking about some questions.

I felt tired all over, and when I spread my coat on the sand, I fell asleep, and during this time, as if in a nightmare, the monkey screamed loudly, waking me and Zhang Yu up. At this time, the monkey's face was much better than before due to the injection of antivenom, and Zhang Yu hurriedly fed the monkey a small amount of water. The monkey looked at us, cast a grateful look, and spoke in a low voice, gradually and intermittently.

That day, my uncle chased the guide, and we each followed, but we happened to encounter the wind and sand and were blown away. According to the monkey's recollection, he was alone at that time, but he and his uncle had been wandering for nearly 20 years, and he had never seen any strong winds and waves, and he was not panicked. In one direction, a long march. When it was evening, I saw a black shadow faintly flickering behind, and the monkey approached a few steps, and there was really a person following him, and he must have been the guide when he saw the costume. Hurriedly chased after him with a pistol and dropped the shoulder bag. The guide ran very fast and disappeared after a while, and when the monkey returned, he found that his backpack was missing, and that it must have been taken by the guide. Luckily, the monkey still had a kettle tied to his waist, but there wasn't much water in it. The monkey survived the whole day with the water in the kettle, during which time the guide kept watching the monkey from the range of the pistol. As soon as the monkey relaxes his vigilance, he plays the flute. Until now, he was still bitten by a centipede, and with the pistol in his hand, the guide did not dare to approach.

After listening to the monkey's narration, Zhang Yu and I did not speak, because we knew that death was just like us, and the water was limited, and saying one more word would mean the disappearance of the water, and we would be one step closer to death.

Early in the morning of the second day of the encounter with the monkeys.

Although the monkey's condition was somewhat relieved, the whole person was still in a coma and could not walk on his own.

I'm carrying a big box, which is already heavy, so it's hard to help for a while. During this period, I always thought about throwing away the box, but Zhang Yu stopped it.

As a result, Zhang Yu carried the monkey on his back, and our walking speed was greatly reduced, and when it was close to noon, we only had one bottle of water to saved. Zhang Yu's body consumption is relatively large, although he can drink some water, but there is no food to satisfy his hunger, and his face looks very pale at the moment. In the afternoon, we unexpectedly saw some footprints, and looked at the footprints should be four people, which happened to coincide with the uncle.

A glimmer of hope ignited in our hearts, and our pace naturally accelerated.

About half an hour later, we saw dozens of stone rocks standing in the distance, and four figures suddenly appeared in it.

I tried to speak, but my throat was so dry that I couldn't make a sound. Zhang Yu sped up a lot. The uncle in the distance also saw us, waved at us, and ran over.

The big man followed the monkey, and Zhang Yu fell down, and then fainted. When it was almost late at night, Zhang Yu coughed a few times and woke up, and Xiao K on the side hurriedly fed Zhang Yu some water and food.

The old man sitting across from me frowned, and according to him, he waved at us before to tell us not to come in, because this is the so-called "Shadow City", and there are no entrances and exits. Uncle and they were mistakenly led by the guide and broke into here, and they have been staying for two days. Now there is only enough food and water for the seven of us to last five days, and God tells us that there is no way back.
