Chapter 159: Saint Peter
On the shore of the Red Sea is a small village with 10 families, mostly poor Israelites, who can only grow some date trees in the saline land on the beach, and harvest some dates every autumn and send them to the market in exchange for a year's food and daily necessities.
There is only one man in this small village who stands out from the rest, his name is Peter, and he is a fisherman. The reason why there is only one fisherman in this village near the sea is because the desert on the Red Sea is said to be barren, and wood is extremely valuable, which means that it costs a lot of money to build a small fishing boat, and the poor cannot afford it anyway.
Peter's family was fairly well-off, and his parents left him a considerable fortune, which allowed him to build a fishing boat and become the only fisherman here.
On this day, Peter went out to sea to fish, but returned empty-handed when the sun was setting, and his luck was really bad today, and he was in a terrible mood.
When the fishing boat came ashore, Peter found a man in a white linen robe, with long hair and a shawl, a full beard, and a shepherd's cane in his hand, looking at him with a smile on his face.
Peter said angrily, "I'm a fisherman, not a ferryman, and I'm not going to take you anywhere else." ”
The man standing on the shore was Jesus, and when he heard Peter's words, he asked, "Didn't catch any fish today?" ”
Peter shouted, "What does this have to do with you, today it's just bad luck, tomorrow I go deeper and I will catch big fish." ”
Jesus said, "If it is only by luck that things are done, then I think my luck is good." ”
Peter looked at Jesus and asked, "What do you mean by that?" ”
Jesus approached Peter and said, "Dear stranger, what is your name?" ”
Peter replied, "My name is Peter." ”
Jesus smiled and nodded, "Peter, listen to me, the reason why you have not caught a fish is because the Israelites have broken the oath made by God and Moses back then, and greed has taken control of people's minds, and the fish in the Red Sea have gone, so tomorrow even if you go to the other side of the sea, you will find nothing." ”
Peter said, "You are alarmist! I've been fishing here for over twenty years, but I've had a lot of luck lately! Who are you and what do you want to do? ”
Jesus said, "My name is Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah of this world, whom God called me to save you." ”
When Peter heard this, he laughed, and his eyes seemed to look at another madman, and he said breathlessly, "Son of God? Where is God? Call it out and show me? Don't talk nonsense here, if you don't have anything to do, you'd better leave, I don't have time to listen to your nonsense. ”
Jesus was not angry with Peter's attitude, asking, "Do you not believe that there is a God in this world?" ”
Peter said, "Of course I do, but that God is not my God, and God only blesses the noble lords, and does not care about us ordinary people." ”
Jesus laughed and said, "Why, if God doesn't care about you, then why did He send me to you?" ”
Peter became a little impatient, and he went ashore and pushed Jesus aside, saying, "Don't talk nonsense here, get out of here, or I'll have to go to customs." ”
Looking at Peter's distant figure, Jesus cried out, "How can I convince you that God is on you?" ”
When Peter heard this, he stopped and turned around, and with a playful expression on his face, he said, "I have returned three days in the sky, and if God is for me, then let God give me a boatload of fish, and if it can be done, then I will believe." ”
Jesus smiled and said, "Then please come into the boat." ”
Peter asked, "What for?" ”
Jesus said, "I am the heir of God, so let me give you a boatload of fish on God's behalf." ”
Peter returned to the fishing boat in disbelief, and Jesus jumped into the boat, but halfway through the boat was still empty, Peter asked, "What about the fish?" ”
Jesus laughed and said, "Do you not work and enjoy what you do?" I'll give you a boatload of fish, but you'll need to go out to sea and cast your nets to catch it. ”
"Now?" Peter snorted and said, "It's getting dark, and it's a fool's dream to catch fish now." ”
Jesus said, "If you believe in me, make hasten sails, and I will make miracles for you." ”
Suspicious, Peter hoisted the sails and sailed with Jesus out to sea again, and when he reached a certain place, Jesus struck the bottom of the boat with his staff and said, "This is it, you can cast your net." ”
Peter opened the net and threw it out into the darkening sea, and when the net was closed, he was surprised to find that the feeling in his hand was extremely heavy, and he hurriedly pulled the net into the boat, and although a whole net of fish jumped out of the water, and the fish jumped for joy, Peter could not help laughing and saying, "There are fish!" ”
Jesus sat in the stern of the boat and said lightly, "Go on until this boat is full, and we can go back." ”
Peter spread one net after another, and each one was a heavy harvest, until when it was completely dark, his boat was full of fish.
Looking at the full barn of fish, Peter was so excited that he didn't know what to say. At this time, he looked at Jesus with a look in his eyes, and from the beginning of his contempt and perseverance, he was now full of reverence.
Jesus' expression was very calm and he said, "Why, you don't continue?" ”
Peter said, "That's enough. ”
Jesus nodded and said, "I'm glad you're not greedy. Then why don't you go back? It's already dark, and you're back with a full load, don't you want to entertain me, a stranger from afar? ”
Peter hurriedly set up the sail and said, "This is what I should do, tonight we have fish soup to drink, and unleavened bread!" ”
Jesus laughed happily and said, "That would be great." ”
When he returned to the village, Peter led Jesus to his home, where he saw that Peter's house was a modest house, with a wife and three children.
The children gathered around their father with joy, and the wife smiled knowingly when she saw her husband.
Jesus was invited into the house by Peter, and in the most honorable position, he and his wife hurriedly prepared a table full of delicacies, and stood before Jesus reverently and asked, "I don't know what to call you, but your miracles have really surprised me today, maybe you ...... You are the heir of God. ”
Jesus said calmly, "Dear Peter, please do not be astonished, you have to accept the fact that all this is true, and that those fish will not turn into a pile of sand tomorrow morning, and I am not a trickster." Those fish are real, and they can be eaten or exchanged for money, all of which God has entrusted me to give you. ”
Peter knelt before Jesus and said, "I accept the fact that you are indeed the heir of God, and I am convinced of it. It's just ......"
Peter looked up at Jesus and asked, "There are many people in this world, but you have come to me." ”
Jesus smiled, pulled Peter up, sat him down beside him, and said, "I just happened to pass through here, and although I am a child of God, I need help." ”
Peter said, "Help? You can do everything and need help? ”
Jesus said, "I can do everything, but I can't do anything." ”
Peter asked, "What's that?" ”
Jesus said, "That is to convince you of me." I may get into your head and control your mind, so I can only convince you by miracles. ”
Peter said, "Now I am really convinced of you. ”
Jesus said, "I need more people to believe in me, and only by following in my footsteps can I receive God's favor and live forever in that beautiful kingdom of heaven." ”
Peter asked, "What can I do for you?" ”
Jesus said, "Help me to let more people know that God exists, that this world has not been abandoned by God, and that only by believing in God can we have eternal life." ”
"God?" Peter was unfamiliar with the term.
Jesus nodded and said, "God is the only true God of this world, my heavenly Father, who summoned me in heaven and made all the angels bow down to me, and sent me to earth to save those who are suffering and make them happy." ”
Peter's eyes lit up, and he said, "Can I go too?" ”
Jesus said, "Of course you can, dear Peter, you are a good man." ”
Peter led his wife and children to his knees before Jesus and said, "Great Holy Spirit, from now on my family and I will be your faithful believers, and I will always follow you wherever you go and preach your will to the world." (To be continued.) )
