Chapter 57: Useful Clues
"Alright, guys, it doesn't make sense. Something has happened and we need a solution. Is the situation still under our control? Spencer on the big screen said on a little bit.
"We've got the media and the police in place, and the witnesses have been warned. According to the official version, yesterday's incident was a deliberate explosion of a gas pipeline by terrorists. But there were no casualties. Such a report should buy us some time. One of the directors replied.
"What about the government? Spencer continued.
"I've reached out to the White House chief of staff, and the president won't notice this little thing." A fat old man replied.
"What about Archer and Custer?" All we know is their two pseudonyms, and Mr. Carter has only seen one of them in disguise. They are the real threat. A black director asked.
"The Los Angeles police have issued a wanted warrant and they are now identified as arsonists and terrorists. Carter replied from the other end of the table.
"But that won't help, we need more and more effective leads to help us track them down." The director questioned.
"That's right, gentlemen, I think we need to turn our attention to where this event took place and the people who participated in it. Only with them can we find a breakthrough. Carter said.
"You mean the participants in the Mansion incident?" A director asked.
"That's right, Mr. Bowman is in charge of their trial, and I think we should listen to him. Carter handed over the reins to the former head of security who was standing aside.
"Mr. Bowman, what was the outcome of yesterday's interrogation?" An elderly director asked, "Very well, gentlemen. Our deputy security supervisor has confessed that on the day of the incident at the mansion, he tried to steal the T-virus out of the hive, and the subsequent leak of the virus was also due to his deliberate spreading. If it weren't for the hive's comprehensive security system, he would have succeeded. Bowman replied that he had been forced to resign from his position as head of security when the assignment was scheduled yesterday. The reason is that he did not perform well at the time of the mansion incident before.
"Does he know those two?" Several directors asked.
"No, we used a lie detector test on him, and he really didn't know those two guys. Interestingly, though, in the second half of the interrogation, he suggested that Alice, our head of security, also had the idea of stealing the T-virus. As a result, we raided Alice, and the test results showed that she did have similar thoughts, and that she and one of the staff members in the hive were ready to make all the preparations to steal the virus. Bowman replied earnestly.
"So, the two people we are guarding the exit on the periphery of the hive are traitors? ”
"It looks like so, sir. But that's not all. Alice's partner in the hive is the sister of the target, Matt. Bowman replied cautiously. As soon as he finished speaking, there was a buzz among the directors.
"So, both of our security chiefs are ready to steal the T-virus out of the hive? Is that so, Mr. Bowman? The old man on the big screen asked sternly.
"It's a pity, but that's what it is, sir. Bowman replied respectfully.
"What clues do we have now that we can use to track them down?" The old man on the drip asked everyone in the room. But what answered him was the silence of all.
"I'm afraid not, sir. They are professionals, and it's hard for our tech department to keep track of them. But they must have left some clues. We need more specialized people to investigate this incident from scratch. After a while, Carter replied cautiously.
"Do you have a pick?" Mr. Carter? The old man saw that someone was answering his question, and his tone calmed down a little. …,
"Yes, I do have ......," Carter replied with a smile, remembering one of his subordinates.
At the Raccoon City Police Department, Wesker, who had just finished training with the team's tactics, returned to his office. It's been years since he gave up his research work to go undercover for S.T.A.R.S, but he still instinctively resent the idiots around him. Wesker believes that he should be involved in higher management rather than wasting his life undercover in the police department. Ambrera owes him a lot of things, like promotions.
There is no doubt that after so many years of service to the company, anyone will think that they deserve to be promoted. But this rightful thing did not happen, and Ambrera's institution was large and bloated. There are many veteran employees like him in various departments who stick to an unpleasant position all year round.
And everyone is as eager to get a promotion as he is. However, year after year, only a small fraction of what Wesker considered unqualified waste was promoted. This often discourages Wesker. Too many ordinary people who do nothing stand in his way.
But as a nimble man, Wesker has set his sights on the longer term. He had a plan to get out of Ambrera, and he and William had been working on it for years, and now there was only one opportunity left. He was able to get rid of Ambrera and get the reward he deserved. That day won't be too far off, he's sure.
Just when he was about to make himself a cup of afternoon tea and enjoy the afternoon. The phone on the desk rang. It's a disappointment, but Wesker is in control of his feelings, and there will always be mediocre ordinary people to disturb his thoughts. He was used to it.
"This is Wesker. Wesker asked unhurriedly after picking up the phone.
"Ah, it's Mr. Carter. Do I need anything from me? After listening for a few seconds, Wesker confirmed the identity of the caller. An incompetent guy who occupies a position that he deserves a long time ago.
Of course, after all these years, Wesker is no longer very angry about what happened back then, and he now has a broader future waiting for him, so he doesn't mind politely asking the other party about the purpose of the call.
"Oh, that's right, where is the chief?" …… Oh, I see. I'll look into it myself. Wesker replied after a few minutes, and then, slowly, he hung up, and he leaned back in his office chair quietly, only for a moment, a smile appeared on his face.
"Two intruders?" Hehe, finally have a decent job. I'll find them," Wesker smiled as he leaned back in his office chair and held his head. He thinks he's finally getting the opportunity he needs.
"S.T.A.R.S, drop your work. Five minutes later, the meeting will begin in the conference room. A few minutes later, Wesker walked out of his office and shouted at his teammates.
When the S.T.A.R.S team members outside heard this, they hurriedly put down their work, and even the person who was on the phone hung up after saying a few words. No one in S.T.A.R.S. wants to challenge Wesker's authority.
Five minutes later, Jill hurried into the conference room. She was so embarrassed, there were so many people in Team A and Team B, she was the only one who was late. Of course, it's not her fault, every time she encounters an important event, she will inexplicably run into some trouble. This time was no exception.
Wesker, who was sitting in the chair, didn't say anything, but he didn't ask Jill to sit down. He just continued what he had already begun to speak, as if he hadn't seen her. This made Jill even more embarrassed, and even considered whether to just stand and have a meeting. In the end, it was Chris who pulled a chair for her, and she sat down awkwardly.
"For this mission, S.T.A.R.S may be dispatched as a team. I want everyone to be ready and always available. A few minutes later, Wesker ended his speech, but Jill, who had missed the previous remarks, still didn't understand what was happening. …,
"What the hell is going on, what are we going to prepare?" After everyone had left the room, Jill asked as he pulled his partner Chris.
"I don't know, the captain just said that we should be prepared to cooperate with the detectives and help them investigate the outsiders who have appeared in the city nearby. The LAPD sent information that the terrorists who bombed Los Angeles yesterday may have stopped in Raccoon City. Asking us to cooperate with the investigation," Chris told Jill what she hadn't heard.
"So, we don't necessarily have a combat mission, do we?" Jill didn't hear anything unusual, and asked strangely.
"The captain doesn't seem to think so, and the latest intelligence says that the terrorists are two people, and they are definitely professionals. If we had encountered it while we were investigating, it would have been ......," Chris explains. Under his explanation, Jill finally understands that Wesker wants them to make a cameo appearance as an ordinary police officer to investigate a suspicious "out-of-town" person.
What are the characteristics of these two "outsiders"? Jill asked on the way to the parking lot.
"It's just known that they're all around 6'1" tall, and one of them "probably" is Asian. Chris replied as he pulled out the keys.
"Well, how does that sound familiar?" Jill wondered.
"Hey, Jill, do you remember those two guys you met at the bar the other day? Chris asked as he got into the car.
"Remember, I've never gotten drunk so quickly, I'm sure there's something wrong with the wine Manny gave me. Jill replied as she got her manicure, in fact, even though it had only been a few days, she couldn't remember the events of that night. Among the side effects of the agent is blurred memory.
"And have you seen them after that night?" Chris continued.
"No, he seems to have said they were passing by. What's wrong? Jill put down the nail clippers and asked, the woman's instinct telling her that Chris should have something to say.
