073 Let go
It was a four- or five-hour drive from Washington to New York, and of course it was faster by air, so when the academy was not over, Eric and his party returned home.
"What about Ms. Mora?" Before the Auroro could get closer, her voice came first.
"She's going to stay and do some more communication, you know some of her old friends are there." Eric replied, and John came running, followed by a group of students, large and small.
"Chief, how did you get out of that strange suit, we haven't figured it out for a long time." John yelled, the little hairy heads were making a private bet.
"A little secret." Eric blinked, not telling them the truth.
The young people immediately wailed.
"You're so bold to speak, that's Congress." Auroro approached, and she whispered.
"It's just a hearing, and it's all over." Eric felt her concern and put his arms around her waist comfortingly.
Auroro patted Eric's hand in disgust, but Eric pointed to the side and she said no more.
Over there are Hank and Yuriko, the old husband and young wife kissing passionately together.
"I say," said Eric, leaning in to Auroro's ear with ill will. "Shall we learn from them again?"
Auroro's face immediately turned red, and she remembered the gesture of "marching into Paris" again, and hurriedly broke free, standing with the laughing piano.
Seeing her shy appearance, Eric spread his hands to express his helplessness, and then was surrounded by students, asking about Capitol Hill, they came to the academy by themselves, and even New York rarely went there, let alone the seat of the Capitol. They threw out the questions in one go, and Eric seemed to be back in the circle of reporters, explaining to them without stopping.
The professor was the furthest away from the group, and he quietly stopped in the shade of a tree, the afterglow of the setting sun blocked by the trunk of the tree, and the shadow obscured him.
He quietly watched the jubilant scene on the playground, since Eric came here, the academy had become vibrant, young people no longer had their hearts on their minds every day, children did not wake up from nightmares often, and relations with ordinary people were improving, which was exactly what he had been pursuing.
However, when this scene really came, Charles Xavier suddenly couldn't find his place.
He was no longer the most indispensable one who was needed, and even his most loyal disciple, Scott, had left.
Looking at these joyful people, the professor felt an indescribable loss in his heart.
"Charles." Hearing someone call his name, the professor was stunned for a moment before turning around, and Hank was standing beside him.
"Hi, Hank." The professor said. "Aren't you with Yuriko?"
"She has friends of her own." Hank said, bending over the professor's wheelchair.
"What are you thinking?" Hank asked, looking into the professor's eyes.
The professor looked up, and his old friend's eyes were looking deeply into him, and the kind of insightful look made the always wise man have some urge to avoid it.
"I'm kind of like Scott, if only he were here." The professor made excuses and prevaricated, but of course he was thinking about the student.
Hank gently pushed the wheelchair and slowly moved the professor in the shade.
"I've been waiting for this moment for years, Charles." Hank said thoughtfully as he looked at the people in the distance. "Remember when we first met, when I was a researcher in a CIA department, and it was you who exposed me in front of my boss, and then we became a team and fought for our fellow citizens."
"Yes, I remember. I can still remember what you looked like back then, in your white overalls, with a green face, and your highly myopic glasses, which were as thick as whiskey. The professor is nostalgic for the past, and the experiences that have long since disappeared from history are still deeply etched in his mind.
"We had a lot of friends at that time, and the other Eric was still our companion, and we faced the enemy together, and even if they were defeated and fled, we never gave up hope." Hank whispered, the wheelchair approaching the edge of the shade. "Why is this, I often think about this question later, obviously no one helps us, but we are confident that we can change our lives on our own."
"Later I understood that the reason why I have faith is because we are united." The wheelchair crossed the shadows, and the professor looked at the sunlight falling on his toes. "Because of our unity, we really did miracles, monsters like Sebastian Shaw were defeated in our hands, and when I learned the news, I believed that nothing in the world could not be changed in front of us."
"I was sad when Eric left, not only because he took Raven with him, but he also took away my dreams. But I think the saddest person should be you, you have not only lost your legs, you have lost Raven, but also lost a brother, and you will continue to fight in the days to come. ”
"In those days, despite our victories over the Brotherhood, I never felt a glimmer of hope again, and I think the more victories we had, the harder it would be for our internal wounds to heal, and the mutants were divided into two camps, neither of which could really win, and as long as we continued to fight each other, no change would happen. Perhaps it will not be until humanity launches an all-out offensive that we will not be able to shake hands again under the threat of death. Hank looked into the distance and sighed lowly. It was a dark time. ”
The professor was silent, the sun falling on his lap, the reflected light piercing his eyes.
"I don't know if you realize this, that is, although your choices are contrary to Eric, neither of you can really get us out of danger, you can't stop the endless encroachment of humans, Eric can't destroy human hostility, your efforts cancel each other out, the situation of mutants has not changed for decades, while humanity is gradually growing, and now we have no advantage in power."
"Who can save us, it's not Professor X, it's not Magneto, it's the combined force of the two of them, only if the professor and Magneto shake hands and stand together again, the mutants will come back to life."
"Charles, look over there." Hank pointed to the playground, and the professor followed his hand to see a slender woman strolling along, and as she approached the crowd, her appearance quickly changed, first from an ordinary-looking white-collar woman to a blue-skinned woman, and then to a long-haired woman in her twenties.
"Even Raven doesn't stick to her old ideas anymore, can't we learn to change?"
"Let go of your mind, let go of mind control, don't be fooled by your abilities, you have done too much for mutants, there will always be your place here, and now it's a new era, Xavier Academy has a new Magneto, what are you waiting for?"
"Let go of your worries, let go of the shackles on Eric."
The professor looked up at his old friend's honest and aged face, and he realized that he had reached the golden sunset.
"You're right, Hank." The professor looked away at the youthful and lively young man, and let out a long breath. "I don't care about anything anymore, I can't control everything, I've given my life, and there will always be my legend here."
"In any case, I am the founder of this era." The professor looked at Eric, who was standing in the middle of the students, and a sense of pride regenerated in his body. "It's time for the new Magneto, and I'll see what he does."
