Chapter 192: Choices and Changes

"What do you want to play with us?" Nick Fury stared coldly at the clown on the screen.

"It's just a game of choice." The Joker licked the corners of his lower lip and showed no concern for Nick Fury's cold gaze and tone: "I once played a game in Gotham, but I was very unhappy with the outcome of that game. So I improved it a little bit and took it out. โ€

Nick Fury and everyone felt a little chill behind their backs for a while.

"Don't be so strict, laugh a little. Laughs like me! The Joker's face smeared on weird makeup is laughing wildly in front of the camera, and the entire screen is filled with the Joker's weird smiling face. After laughing, he took a step back: "Before the game starts, let's take a look at a few familiar faces." โ€

The clown waved his hand in front of the camera, and the screen suddenly switched to another frame.

Several female faces appeared on the screen, these people were tied to a position with duct tape on their mouths, and around them were a circle of men with loaded guns and large waists covered with stockings.

"Pepper!"

Tony Stark subconsciously clenched his fists when he saw one of the familiar women.

The image switches quickly, and after a moment of Pepper Potts and others, the camera deflects and moves to the other side โ‰ˆโˆฎ. A group of well-dressed characters, but now full of wolf bรจi, were included on the screen.

Some of the kidnappers are ordering them to look up at the camera one by one.

Tony Stark, who can't hide his panic on his face, is no stranger, and even Nick Fury and Meng Ao are no strangers to those present. These are all people with status, and many of them are even closely related to their two companies.

There are supporters of the government.

There are also commercial collaborators.

"After seeing the familiar faces, let's look at the other side." The clown's voice suddenly came through the screen.

The screen goes black and then switches to a different scene.

What appeared on the screen was a full crowd of people! A group of civilians who look trembling under the threat of their kidnappers.

Nick Fury's face was grim.

"How's it going?" The clown reappears on the screen: "I deliberately hijacked two passenger ships. Civilians and people associated with you have been deliberately placed on separate passenger ships. โ€

"What do you want to do?" Meng Ao frowned. Except for Nick Fury, he probably knows the Joker best. After all, before he left for Gotham, he had seen Nick Fury in detail and showed him information about Bruce Wayne and Batman.

As the battle of the clown who led Batman disappeared and Bruce Wayne retired, Meng Ao certainly watched it.

"What do I want to do? That's a good question. The clown smiled brightly, "Loki gave me the task of delaying you. And let you make a choice. Whether to help him seize control of the planet, or to prevent him from becoming the king of this world. The price is the life and death of your lover and important partner. โ€

Meng Ao and Nick Fury and the others all narrowed their eyes for a while. Thor's hand clenched into a fist and then let go. With his girlfriend Jane in the hands of the other party, he is also among the clown threats like Tony Stark.

"Either go and help Loki, or trade your own death for your lover's life."

The clown finished his sentence with a sigh of relief, and Tony Stark's face was already dark.

Help Loki?

Including Meng Ao, Tony Stark's anger at Loki has been pent-up. How could they help Loki and assist him in conquering his country. A planet on which you depend?

Anti-Loki?

Then you have to face the death of your lover and important partner.

Or, as the clown said, exchange his own death for the life of his lover and important people.

But neither of the two is the one that the people present are willing to choose. The other party deliberately targeted their weak points, and this feeling of forcing a person and making him succumb to the will of others to go step by step sensitively stimulated everyone present.

Especially the unruly Tony Stark.

"Of course, it's just Loki's will. He was what he said when he was there, but he's gone, and I think the rules of the game need to change. The clown laughed and said, "It makes no sense for you to help him or not." That choice was so boring. โ€

"You're going to betray Loki?" Meng Ao asked out loud.

"What is betrayal? There is loyalty before betrayal. The Joker retorted, "Loki and I are collaborators, and I've helped him refine a lot of his plans." I found a lot of people and solved a lot of troubles. I don't owe him anything. Now that he's almost done what he wants, I think it's time for me to dissolve my relationship with him. โ€

"If you want me to say, this world doesn't need a so-called king at all."

"What does that take?" Nick Fury asked.

"What is needed is chaos and madness." The clown said, "Justice and order are actually worthless, and these things are suppressing human nature." Human beings are selfish and greedy by nature. โ€

"How do you prove what you say?" Nick Fury said, but his arm swayed slightly naturally. Maria Hill, who was on the side, was keenly aware of this action of her own patriarch. She immediately retreated in understanding.

She understood what her director meant.

They could drag their time with the Joker here first, but Loki and Dr. Eric Servig had to send someone to deal with it.

"It's a very simple game." The clown bird flailed its arms in either direction like wings, then fell down and slapped on his trouser leg: "A game I used to play." โ€

The clown turned around and took out two boxy detonators from the table behind him, one by one, and raised them in front of the camera and shook them twice: "As you can see." These are two detonators, and as soon as I press one, one of the two passenger ships I hijacked will detonate. โ€

"I leave this choice to you. Are you selflessly choosing to trade the death of a few for the life of the many? Or do you trade the death of the majority for the life of your loved ones? As long as you make a choice. Whoever makes the choice, who values it, can live or die. โ€

The clown smirked, "You have five minutes to think." If you don't choose anything for five minutes, I don't rule out some extreme measures. For example, I press the detonator of two passenger ships together? โ€

As he spoke, the clown rolled his eyes. He seemed to be thinking: "This seems very boring, so let's change it and let the hostages of the two passenger ships choose." As a friendly reminder, we are now broadcasting live on the Internet and media around the world. I've been preparing for this stage for a long time. โ€

Finally, the clown threatened: "If you ruin my carefully prepared live broadcast." Then I'll just declare the game over and let everyone on the two passenger ships game-over together. Come on, now the countdown begins. โ€

Meng Ao and Nick Fury frowned in unison.

Those present knew very well what kind of game the Joker was in, a game that applied the core of the Tram Paradox.

A madman tied six innocent people to the tram tracks. An out-of-control tram was coming towards them and was about to run over them in a few moments. Luckily, you can pull a lever and let the tram go to another track. But there's another problem, that madman also tied up a person on that other track.

To put it mildly, it is a choice between a single life and five lives who lives and who dies.

Say something bigger. This is a critique and refutation of most theories in ethical philosophy, especially utilitarianism. Because utilitarians believe that most moral decisions are made according to the principle of "providing the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people."

From the point of view of a utilitarian or some ordinary person, the obvious choice in the face of such a conundrum should be to pull the lever and save five people and kill only one. Even so, it is still impossible to avoid a certain moral condemnation and become an impure moralist.

The Joker takes this paradox into detail. He will be in this conundrum for people. It was replaced by someone who was related to the person who made the choice.

On the one hand, there are the few who have something to do with the chooser, and on the other hand, there is a majority that has little to do with the chooser. This compares with the so-called original tram paradox. This multiple-choice question is a more bloody and thorough one, and it faces people's hearts.

It is true that choosing the majority and giving up the few of their lovers will make the chooser a moral model and a moral benchmark. But people who have lost their lover's family will not really enjoy this honor. They will only be immersed in endless pain.

Selfishly choosing a few people may gain the safety of your loved one's family. But the price comes a huge moral deficit.

Those who were smarter at the scene immediately thought of who the clown's hand was aimed at.

He's against S.H.I.E.L.D.!

Coming for the Avengers!

Whether it is the exposure of the Avengers some time ago, or the live broadcast that the Joker said, it is obviously this moment.

"Look at the look of embarrassment on your face. What do you have to be embarrassed about? Don't you want to be the hero and savior of this world? It should be your duty to protect civilians! Why hesitate? Shouldn't heroes sacrifice themselves? Make a choice, you don't have much time. โ€

The clown said wantonly: "I never believed that there would be any real heroes in this world, but one person made me understand that there are still freaks in this world." Then let me see what choices those of you who want to be heroes will make. โ€

Nick Fury's eyes were a little tight, and he looked sideways at the faces of Meng Ao, Tony, Peter, Thor, and Steve, and the silence of these people, it was obvious that they were still struggling and hesitating. He looked at Maria Hill again, but Maria Hill made a helpless gesture to him.

Nick Fury understood that this meant that the Joker and the two hijacked passenger ships had not been found yet.

"Why should you let your loved ones and friends die for someone you have nothing to do with them? You must have thought so, right? Don't suppress this thought, say it freely, and then with such a light press on my hand, the damned will die, and the deserving will live. โ€

The clown's demonic voice sounded again, and he shook a watch in his hand: "You don't have much time. If you want me to say, don't care about the lives and deaths of those who have nothing to do with you, you just need to make a choice that goes along with your heart, and then leave the murder and arson to me. โ€

"Don't you believe in retribution?" Nick Fury asked.

He couldn't let the clown continue to bewitch, because he was really afraid that the clown would bewitch these people around him.

Whichever choice they make in this game, they are clearly the loser.

The choice of Jane Foster, Pepper Potts and a few others is obviously tantamount to overturning the original intention of the Avengers. It is also difficult for these exposed people to calmly do righteous things in front of the people as a team. These people will be questioned and abused in all sorts of ways. I'm afraid it will take a long, long time for the turmoil to calm down.

But a long, long time ago, it was clear that this newly established team would have disappeared for a while. And the people in the team are afraid that they will not have the heart to stay in this so-called righteous team anymore.

Choosing the majority may be the original intention of the Avengers. But these people in the team, in addition to Natasha and other agents under her hands, and captain Steve Rogers can still fight for it, Tony Stark, Peter Parker and Meng Ao are obviously 100% out of this team that makes them sad, and for a long time, maybe for the rest of their lives, they will avoid dealing with S.H.I.E.L.D. again.

Whatever the choice, Nick Fury feels like he's a loser.

He used Loki's threat to urgently pull together such an uncontrollable and powerful team, but he didn't have time to fully integrate them and provide more solid protection for those they valued. For a while, Nick Fury unexpectedly gave birth to a rare regretful feeling.

"Justice and retribution, as well as order, are the most ethereal things. In my dictionary and in the world, there is no justice and no such thing as order. If there is retribution, I am happy to bear it. The clown replied calmly.

"There are thirty seconds left, and if you don't choose, the choice is not in your hands. Tony Stark? The clown reminded the time, and finally clicked on the silent Tony Stark: "According to your nature, you don't care about the death of people who have nothing to do with you, right?" Make a choice, both for yourself and for these teammates around you. โ€

Bang!

The door behind the clown was slammed open, and a black figure approached the clown's side like lightning, a sharp knee, and then a knife from above slashed directly at his neck. In the end, the two of them deftly dismantled the detonator on the table into a pile of scattered parts with ten fingers, and then stopped. (To be continued......)

ps: ps: It's finally time to write about the big war...... I think I'm a bad guy now......
