Chapter 5: Breakout

"Let's go."

Lu Li immediately made a decision, turned around and ran to the other side. Chrissy and Wren followed, and soon came to the edge on the other side.

"Follow me."

With a hello, Lu Li jumped down the first and slid down the steep slope. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he immediately glanced around. When he saw a dead tree not far away, he rushed over and broke it with all his might, making a weapon in haste.

At this time, Chrissy slipped to the bottom of the slope under the protection of Wren. Lu Li tried the stick he had just made in his hand, turned to the two of them and admonished.

"I'm going to open the way ahead, so don't go away. Hit zombies on the head. This is their only weakness. ā€

The two of them understood and nodded. Wren expertly drew out the magazine and checked the bullets. With a bang, the bullet was loaded. He held the gun in one hand and the other in front of Chrissy, and followed Lu Li into the one-man tall grass.

Lu Li had already cheered up at this time. He watched his surroundings intently, and at the same time used the stick in his hand to make a path through the grass.

Only a dozen meters away, there was a sound of ropes in the grass. A zombie suddenly pounced from the grass on the right and pounced straight at Lu Li, who was walking in the front.

Seeing this, Wren immediately raised his gun and took aim. Just as he was about to shoot, Chrissy suddenly stepped forward and pressed the pistol in his hand. He turned back hesitantly, but saw Chrissy staring at Lu Li intently, muttering something in her mouth. He thought about it, but in the end he didn't shoot, leaving Lu Li to face the danger alone.

At this time, Lu Li's heart was beating fast. It's not the first time he's seen zombies, and it's not the first time he's faced them. Facing the oncoming zombies, he felt that he was about to suffocate.

"I've got a human booster, and I have no problem dealing with a zombie at all."

Lu couldn't help comforting himself in his heart. The speed of zombies is not fast, at least nearly half slower than ordinary people. Although the zombie pounced at the moment, it was enough for him to see its movements clearly.

When the zombie pounced a meter away, Lu Li flew up a stick and hit the zombie's head. There was a terrible muffled sound, and the zombie fell in response.

"No increase in strength?"

Lu Li's pupils constricted. He was shocked and suspicious, but he did not forget the instinct he had cultivated when he was struggling to survive. He stepped forward quickly, slamming his foot on the head of the zombie struggling to get up.

As soon as the zombie raised its head, it was trampled to the ground by this foot. Lu Li made up a few kicks one after another. All I heard was a strange muffled sound.

It's like stepping on a watermelon. The zombie's head was crushed by his foot. Black blood mixed with blackened brains spilled over the pair of Adidas he was wearing on his feet. He didn't care about the nausea, beckoned quickly, and continued to open the way in front.

"He's very skillful in his movements, and his feet are where the weakest joints of the human skull are located. It's like practicing thousands of times, and the body's instinctive reaction has been formed. ā€

Wren watched Lu Li move forward vigilantly, and whispered to Chrissy, "His origin is very strange. Maybe we should find a way to get him back to the United States. ā€

"Nope."

Chrissy shook her head and stepped forward. As she passed by Wren, she said calmly, "If what he said is true." We can't go back. The best thing to do right now is for us to follow him and get as many secrets out of his mouth as possible. ā€

Wren looked thoughtfully at Lu Li's back. His eyes quickly regained his composure, and he left the place after Chrissy.

This wasteland is not large. But the wild grasses and shrubs are quite lush. In just one or two hundred meters, the three of them have been attacked by no less than 30 zombies.

These zombies attack in different directions. Some lost their legs and lay on the ground. When Lu Li passed by, it suddenly burst out, opened its mouth and bit Lu Li's right leg. Fortunately, Lu Li had already been mentally prepared. As soon as he saw the zombies attacking, he immediately flew up and kicked the zombies away. Then he lunged forward with another lunge, smashing its head like the first zombie with one kick.

More zombies pounced on from all directions. They opened their hands, their mouths full of black blood opened and closed, and they pounced on Lu Li, who was opening the way in front. In the face of these zombies, Lu Li was even more handy. Knock it over with a stick, go up and make up for it, and you end a zombie.

After nearly 40 minutes, the three of them successfully escaped from the lush grass and came to the village road. The three of them didn't bother to catch their breath and quickly fled from the other direction.

More zombies slowly pounced on the three of them.

After more than an hour, the three of them finally got rid of the zombies. There was not a single zombie in sight. By this time Chrissy was out of breath. Her face was pale, without a trace of blood. Despite her efforts, she could still see that she had reached her limit and could no longer run.

Lu Li didn't feel good either. Compared to the exhaustion of his body, he was more upset about one thing - except for the self-healing ability, strength, physique, etc., there was no improvement at all.

"How so? How so? ā€

He walked to a stone by the side of the road and sat down, his mind in turmoil. Wren saw him stop to rest, and hurriedly helped Chrissy to another stone to rest.

"She didn't inject me with a human strengthener?"

"If it weren't for the human body enhancer, how could I have survived with three shots in my body?"

"I've been injected with human body boosters and have also gained self-healing ability, why haven't other physical indicators been improved?"

One question after another surged through his mind. He was distraught, and unconsciously turned his head to look at the two Chrissy who were resting not far away.

Seeing him coming, Chrissy got up and walked over. Seeing this, Wren hurriedly wanted to stop it. She shook her head, went straight to Lu Li's side and sat down, and took out the notebook.

The notebook was already full of English and symbols. Lu Li couldn't understand what these represented at all. Chrissy didn't shy away from it, took the ballpoint pen from her notebook, looked up and asked.

"How are you feeling right now?"

Lu Li shook his head hesitantly. Chrissy frowned slightly, lost in thought. After a while, she raised her head again and continued to ask, "Are you ......?"

Before she could finish speaking, Lu Li suddenly stared at her eyes and interrupted her inquiry: "Did you inject me with a human body enhancer?" ā€

The sound was small, but it was like a bombshell when it landed on Chrissy's ears. A hint of panic flashed in her eyes. Lu Li keenly saw this scene and immediately asked in a low voice.

"Didn't you in the United States develop a human reinforcer a long time ago?"

The panic in Chrissy's eyes became more palpable. She struggled to stay calm, struggling, and squeezed out a reluctant smile: "Human enhancer? Oh God, what are you talking about? Why can't I understand? ā€

"Chrissy? Norton, 21 years old. At the age of fifteen, he completed his university courses on his own, was invited by Stanford University, and a year later defended his doctoral dissertation with honors, becoming the youngest Ph.D. in the history of Stanford University. Subsequently, he was invited by the U.S. government to become a first-class researcher in District 51......"

Lu Li talked to himself, and after a while, Chrissy's face was no longer bloody. She tried to keep her composure, but her eyes were full of panic.

"That's enough."

Chrissy's lips trembled, stopping Lu Li from continuing. She took a deep breath, stared into Lu Li's eyes and asked, "How do you know my resume?" No, I am a first-level researcher in District 51, and even my father doesn't know about it. ā€

At this point, the panic and consternation in her eyes disappeared in an instant, and she regained her composure. She stared at Lu Li with blazing eyes, and spit out a sentence word by word.

"Who the hell are you?"

"Me?"

Lu Li avoided Chrissy's gaze, lowered his head and muttered, "A poor man who is struggling to survive in the last days. ā€

Chrissy was stunned. She stared at Lu Li, whose face showed loneliness. After a long time, she withdrew her gaze and whispered solemnly.

"Do you know about the Strongest Warrior Project?"

Lu Li turned his head blankly. Seeing the blankness in his eyes, Chrissy couldn't help but shake her head and laugh: "I probably guessed your identity." But it doesn't matter. The important thing is that we can work together. ā€

"Cooperation?"

"Of course, I need you to protect me until the U.S. government sends someone to save me."

"Reasonable, that's fine."

Lu Li nodded as a matter of course. He didn't want this future savior of humanity to die in China, at the hands of those damned zombies.

Chrissy smiled. She pulled her sideburns and began to explain: "Since the beginning of the last century, District 51 has been studying the corpses of aliens collected in various places. Trying to find out the secret that allowed humanity to evolve. When I accepted the government's invitation to become a researcher, I was assigned to a research group. The topic of the group's research is the Strongest Warrior Program. ā€

"We've isolated a never-before-seen form of dopamine from alien cells. In one accident, I accidentally discovered that this dopamine can affect the corpus callosum in the brain, causing the corpus callosum to produce a hormone that has never been discovered before. This hormone stimulates the brain to send a false message that prompts the brain to produce a hormone that dramatically alters muscle structure. ā€

"What's the message?"

"Uh...... Have you ever heard of paraphenomena? ā€

"You mean superpowers?"

"It's not."

Chrissy shook her head. She thought for a moment and continued, "We once made a real yĆ n. This hormone is injected into a dog's brain. Eventually, the dog was able to stay in the air for more than ten seconds. Personally, I suspect that this is because the dog received the wrong information from the brain and mistakenly thought that he could fly. As a result, its muscle structure changes, similar to ...... Birds. After a post-mortem dissection, this was demonstrated. The dog's muscle structure became extremely similar to that of birds. ā€

Lu Li's eyes widened suddenly. He stared into Chrissy's eyes in disbelief, trying to tell that it was Chrissy teasing herself. It's a pity he didn't see it. Chrissy's eyes were clear, and she threw out an even heavier secret to meet his gaze.

"Then we carried out a series of realizations, ranging from dogs to chimpanzees. On a recent occasion, the chimpanzee went berserk and smashed the five-centimeter-thick tempered glass in the isolation chamber with a single punch. Do you know what that means? ā€

Lu Li shook his head. Chrissy pulled her sideburns and looked up at the grass in the distance. Her voice became empty and continued as if dreamy.

"The average chimpanzee has about five times the arm strength of humans. After receiving the hormone injection, its strength was increased by at least ten times. Chimpanzees are close relatives of humans, and they have up to 98 genes and humans. 77% similarity. This means that humans can equally accept this hormone. That's the goal of the Strongest Warrior program, which is what you call a human booster. ā€

With that, her gaze moved back to Lu Li's face.

"The only hormone that's been purified, and now it's in your body."
