307 Familiar Shadows
It was a clear morning, and the sun rose as usual, enveloping the entire island in summer glow.
Wearing an iron-gray tracksuit, Bronski ran alone in the sparse forest with soft grass and slightly wet soil, his hood and shoulders wet with dew, and from time to time a lively and cute little squirrel would pop up next to him, or startle a few wild ducks and geese foraging in the grass.
The team's new location is nearby, and Bronski is very happy with the environment.
Since returning from New Mexico, Eric, who had a good harvest, has left S.H.I.E.L.D. and made some private deals with the military, although it is not known what he has paid and how much he has earned, but judging from the smiling old face of one of the representatives who came to participate in the transaction, Bronsky's old superior, General Ross, the other party obviously thinks that he has gained a lot.
Sardis. Bronsky, who had worked under him, knew very well what kind of person Ross was, and if His Excellency the General thought that something would help his career, he would do whatever it took to get it, especially when some kind of much-needed resource could be measured and calculated by numbers, and the General was the most generous purchaser Ross was not just a person, the faction behind him had a sufficient budget in their hands.
And Eric's personality Bronski is no longer a stranger through this time, and he is sure that the head of the team must have been rewarded enough, and God knows if this trade will be another ∈ ♀ to a new plan.
Relying on this money, Eric completely ignored the little lease money allocated by the stingy Fury, and simply moved his people out of the densely populated, noisy and noisy downtown Manhattan to Long Island, just across the bridge, to buy a private estate with 50 rooms, including a large surrounding forest, lawn and tidal flats, and a small harbor.
It's conveniently located just over fifty miles from Manhattan, and it only takes about an hour and ten minutes to drive in good conditions, but they have better options. There is a beautiful small yacht in the harbor ready to serve the owner, and it is the addition of the deal.
If Bronski had seen Xavier Academy, he would have realized why Eric had taken a fancy to this place, and there was a similarity between the two that would allow him to relive that good time. Although the history of this estate is not as old as that of the professor's family property, the location is more advantageous and the environment is more beautiful, the island is full of forests, abundant rainfall, and a humid climate, especially in the summer. It is especially rare to be so close to Manhattan, but the land price varies so much. So according to Bronsky, the investment was well worth it, and even the two little ones, Fitz and Gemma, were very happy, and the similar environment reminded them of the country life in their home country in England.
Leaving the depths of the woods and coming to the edge of the manor, Bronsky unexpectedly met the leader he had just thought of.
"I can't run too fast or I'll get torn out. But don't you move your body? He asked, pulling his hood up and looking at Eric's spotless shoes.
"It's been active. Every cell is. Eric replied casually, and the energy in his body worked slowly.
Where he was standing was a small hill, looking far across the river, where an inheritance that had just changed hands had also received a new owner.
Bronski walked to the side. Following Eric's line of sight, he immediately understood the identities of these new neighbors.
"They're mutants." Bronski wiped his sweat and said that the news was not secret, and it was recently introduced in the local newspaper.
Eric didn't speak. Glancing sideways, Bronski explained for him.
"It's people who are born with superpowers through genetic inheritance, and I forgot that the name may not have been popular in your time. When your old subordinate Magneto hadn't betrayed yet, he used names like Superpowers, New Humans, etc., and then he had his own organization and began to promote the idea of mutation and pride, so he used this name to separate them from ordinary people, as if he disdained to belong to people. ”
Eric smiled, he had already heard of these things, but it always felt like a dream to hear about this twisted experience.
"It's funny." He whispered to himself. "Things have taken a turn and gone back to the old ways, but luckily it's not a repetition, it's just a similarity."
"You care about them?" Bronski saw something.
"They are the future." Eric replied indifferently.
"Perhaps." The other party was noncommittal, just shrugged his shoulders. "My education over the last few decades is something else."
"And now?" Eric asked with interest.
"I don't know, I'm not the same as I used to be, and it's ridiculous to stick to my past position." The guy nicknamed Abomination replied calmly, and then asked rhetorically. "What do you think I am now?"
Without waiting for Eric to reply, he continued to speak to himself.
"I think of myself as a human being, a powerful human being, of course. But Ross didn't see it that way, they taught me a crucial lesson, and it was through their eyes that I really understood who I was. And the politicians behind S.H.I.E.L.D., don't tell me they value me as a combat hero and are willing to give me a chance to do it again, they appointed me for the same reason as you appoint you, it's just for checks and balances. I'm a soldier, but not fool cannon fodder, and I guess they got the wrong idea, and you're even more difficult to control than the current leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. ”
Eric smiled and didn't answer, just quietly looked at the other side of the river, many young children were walking in, and there were a few familiar faces among the adults, and when they found two people standing side by side in the distance, they looked back at each other, and politely made a greeting gesture.
It's finally not as reckless as it used to be. Seeing the student's elegant and natural demeanor, Eric was quite pleased, and he immediately smiled in return.
Over the past year, the Manhattan office has bought a number of properties, mostly in lesser-populated areas around New York. On those estates, gated communities were built, or schools and other independent communities. The establishment does not exclude ordinary family members, but more people are born with abilities, and unconsciously they have formed a miniature society with basic functions, which is free from the periphery of human beings to thrive.
This was a plan that Eric had made before he left the era, although he was gone. But the students are still holding on to it.
From the point of view of a good soldier, such a group is not very wise, and they can easily be swept away by powerful opponents with malicious intentions.
However, Eric is more interested in the aspect of security, which is the degree of socialization as a community.
In addition to factors such as psychological reasons or asymmetry in overall strength, another point is that creatures living in social groups have higher intelligence than lone creatures, so they are also smarter and have a more balanced overall development. The reason is obvious. Social animals are constantly in contact with other individuals, so they have more problems to deal with and more pressure to bear, and their adaptability is naturally developed in order to survive better.
This is another form of evolution that is different from individual evolution, which can be called group evolution.
This evolution is just as great.
If you ignore this and want to go it alone as an individual, you will eventually either evolve into a strongly destructive force like Magneto, or you will be domesticated by the subtle effect of the group like the professor.
So Eric chose the upper level with limited access at the beginning. If one day this group can produce its own civilization and sublimate on the basis of ordinary society, then they will truly mature. to have the qualifications to become the mainstream of the new world.
In contrast, security is not a major concern at this stage, as it is the most well-connected region on the East Coast, and the prestige of the students is gradually holding up a sky for their fellow citizens. Just like Eric did for them before.
This is the proudest thing that Eric has done since he came to this world, what he failed to do in the world of the Lord God, and finally did not repeat the mistakes of the past in this new world. No companion will die casually, and there is no power that can easily take the life of those he cherishes.
Seeing his efforts take root, Eric was in a good mood on the way back to his station.
"Emir, how about you come and help me?" As he walked, he asked the little soldier next to him.
"Am I not giving you a job?" Bronski replied in a muffled voice, as if he didn't understand the underlying meaning of his words.
"You know what I mean, I want you to be on my side, from now on." Eric patted the other man on the shoulder. He didn't exert himself, but his attitude was clear, and Bronski knew it would be difficult to avoid it anymore, so they stopped and stood facing each other.
"You want to recruit me?" Bronski asked slowly, his body swelling as he spoke, his face glowing with a golden glow. "Okay, fight me again."
"Aren't you afraid of me this time?" Eric smiled slightly, Bronski was as tall as him, and he didn't have to look down anymore.
"I'm afraid, you're my nemesis. But I'm the best fighter and I want to beat myself. Bronski said, the sharp corners of his forehead bulging out, and he turned into abomination once more, and roared in the sky.
A huge wave of sound flew over the lawn and over the heavy forest, and fell into the ears of the new neighbors on the other side of the creek outside the manor.
"Huh?" A resolute young man in his twenties suddenly turned his head and looked at the place where the voice had come from.
"What's wrong, John." I don't know when a silver-haired man appeared in the back, he is not very old, at first glance it looks like a very cheerful and sunny character, but from the awe-inspiring eyes of the subordinates around him, it can be seen that this is a guy who also needs to be taken seriously.
Hearing his companion's question, John turned back and answered.
"It seems that our neighbors are not simple." As he spoke, the shadow of one of them flashed in front of him again.
Vaguely, John felt an indescribable familiarity in the man. (To be continued......)
