12. The Republic of China Version of Wartime Industrial Construction (II)

PS: Explain the doubts of some readers about the various types of modern combat weapons in the book.

The radio-controlled torpedo is a World War II jishu, a slow electric torpedo running on the water, and the record is very bad, but it is not bad to use it for terrorist attacks.

Miniature anti-aircraft radars are Russian and used by the Airborne Forces. The model is 1Л122-Е, weighs one hundred and fifty kilograms, and has a detection range of about forty kilometers. The official name is a short-range air defense radar, but in order to reflect its small size, I changed it slightly -- it seems that it can't be changed randomly.

According to the plan that the traveler gave to the Shanghai Soviet government, as the basis for all construction, the Pudong Industrial City will have a set of small-scale industrial systems that can be self-circulating, and in the terminology of the Chinese economic department in the future, they will be called "five small local industries", that is, small coal mines, small steel plants, small machinery factories, small fertilizer factories and small cement factories - however, there are no coal mines on this side of Pudong, and for the time being they can only use fleets to transport coal from the coal-producing areas west of Taihu Lake - with these five small industrial projects, It can initially meet the basic production needs of an area with a population of one million.

Then, on this basis, the Pudong Industrial City will build a small power plant, a small textile factory, a small printing factory, a small water plant and a small food factory to meet the needs of the people's daily life, and provide them with the most basic products needed for the daily operation of an industrialized society, that is, to achieve initial industrialization - of course, given that there are already many textile factories and food factories in Puxi, it may not be necessary to rebuild them in Pudong. As long as the original factory in Puxi is renovated into public ownership, and the new equipment provided by the traverser is replaced.

-- The above are the so-called "five small local industries." It originated in 1970 when China formulated the Fourth Five-Year Plan of the People's Republic of China, which specifically included the allocation of special funds from the central government to support the development of five types of industrial projects, namely, small coal mines, small iron and steel plants, small fertilizer plants, small cement factories, and small machinery factories in various provinces and autonomous regions -- in a small area with a population of one million. These are the basic primary industrial projects that the people need.

After the final implementation of this plan, thousands of counties in China have formed a relatively independent industrial system, and have the ability to independently solve the basic needs of industrial and agricultural production, thus effectively promoting the industrialization process of the whole country, cultivating a large number of small enterprises, and planting the seeds for China's later industrial development...... For China's transformation from an agricultural country to an industrial country, the "five local small industries" have played an important role.

Of course. The shortcomings of the construction of the five small industries in the local area are also very serious. Due to the small size of a county, most of the five small industrial projects do not meet the requirements for economies of scale. There is a serious problem of low-level duplicate construction. Therefore, after realizing the initial industrialization of the country and solving the problem of "starting from scratch", the state began to gradually adjust its policies. A large number of small enterprises that could not meet the production requirements of economies of scale were shut down and transferred. Replacing the functions of these small enterprises with more efficient large enterprises finally ended the mission of the "five small local industries".

However, the above-mentioned shortcomings of the five small local industries are not at all a problem in the current era of the Republic of China, which is a sad and urging -- the so-called "small industries" in the future, such as small iron and steel plants with an annual output of 10,000 tons, will be in the Republic of China era when the annual output of steel in the whole country is less than 50,000 tons, and the production of chemical fertilizers is basically blank. It is already a "big industry" without exaggeration.

And the "small" fertilizer plant, which uses coal as a raw material, can produce 30,000 tons of nitrogen fertilizer per year from synthetic ammonia jishu. It exceeded the total output of chemical fertilizer in the country at that time, which is indispensable for modern agriculture. In the countryside of the Republic of China era, it was like a dream, so that the harvest of crops was pitifully low......

In short, the traversers used the slides to describe to the comrades of the Red Army a rather wonderful prospect of industrialization - with their own iron and steel plants, there would be the basis for all military and civilian industries. With its own fertilizer factory, combined with all kinds of high-yielding seeds of modern shijie, the grain output within the base area can be greatly increased, the problem of hunger among the people can be solved to a great extent, and the enthusiasm of the common people for supporting the Soviet government will be greatly enhanced. With your own cement plant, it will be much easier to build roads, dams and buildings. With its own machinery factory, combined with the original Jiangnan shipyard in Shanghai, the base can produce its own diesel engines, electric motors, pumps, bicycles, and even complex industrial products such as tractors and small steamers, and no longer need to import them from abroad at expensive prices. Even the cruiser "Pinghai", which had to be temporarily suspended because it could no longer import spare parts from Japan, may be able to complete it with the help of the Chinese's own liliang.

-- Well, in fact, as for the issue of the cruiser "Pinghai", the traversers have already directly brought the drawings back to the modern Shijie, found a place to order parts, and by the way, they can also carry out some modernization - such as installing several early warning radars and artillery sighting radars or something.

The most beautiful thing is that this set of "five small industries" can also "reproduce itself" -- specifically, it is to use the production capacity of iron and steel mills and machinery factories to replicate the same machine tools and other industrial equipment: one set of "five small industries" will be turned into two sets of "five small industries," and two sets of "five small industries" will be turned into four sets of "five small industries...... Wait until there are hundreds of "five small industries" in the whole country - Ula! An industrialized society has been built!

Of course, after the 21st century, the "five small industries" of the Cultural Revolution era may have long been scrapped. Fortunately, with China's current industrial capacity, these things that don't have much jishu content can basically be made as much as you want. As a matter of fact, it is not that modern China is unable to provide the Red Army comrades with cutting-edge equipment such as five-axis multi-linkage digital machine tools, but the problem is that once such an overly advanced thing is used up, it will be finished, and the comrades of this time and space will not be able to repair it. On the contrary, those stupid and coarse old machine tools could also be maintained and repaired by professional technicians in the thirties of the twentieth century, and they had an extremely long life -- there were Manchukuo machine tools in the northeast, and they actually worked hard until the twenty-first century.

Meanwhile. The eyes of the Red Army comrades flashed with excitement at the thought of the chimneys everywhere in the country, the rolling waves of rice in the fields where chemical fertilizers had been used, and the overwhelming presence of all kinds of iron and steel machinery. Many of them were breathing heavily.

“…… In order to adapt to the current war environment, the scale of the iron and steel factories and machinery factories can be appropriately expanded, and corresponding production lines for firearms, grenades, and bullets can be set up, so as to enhance your self-sufficiency in munitions, reduce your dependence on wormhole transportation capacity, and at the same time cultivate your own industrial production contingent -- there are so many unemployed workers in Shanghai today that the Red Army will not be able to absorb it even if it expands to 400,000. Therefore, the Soviet government in Shanghai must find a way to find some work for them, otherwise it will inevitably lead to social unrest......"

Professor Yang continued to explain to the cadres, "...... So. It's time for you to recruit labor and start leveling the land and building the factories – the first factories were designed to be assembled from steel components to speed things up. All the required parts will be delivered in a short time......"

Such a prospect certainly sounds good. But there is a difficult question to ask...... "Professor, what should I do with the iron ore that the steel mill needs?" ”

-- The Yangtze River Delta Plain around Shanghai, although it is the richest region in China, is very scarce in all kinds of minerals. Coal is easy to do, there are many small coal kilns around Taihu Lake, especially in Changxing County, although the calorific value of coal is a little worse, it can still be used. However, iron ore can only be purchased from Ma'anshan, Wuhu, Daye and other places in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River...... But those places are enemy-occupied areas. It's still west of Nanjing! Is it to smuggle?

“…… Alas, you have to take a long-term view. Whether it is Ma'anshan Iron Mine or Daye Iron Mine, one day we will plant a red flag...... As for the recent period, there are tens of thousands of tons of shipwrecks in the Huangpu River, you can use them to practice your hands first......

Professor Yang smiled calmly, "...... Moreover, the imperialist powers will soon send us more ...... of scrap steel"

※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※

During the period of the Republic of China, due to the colonial aggression of the imperialist powers, Shanghai Tang showed a certain kind of abnormal prosperity in terms of economy, and even surpassed Tokyo in the financial industry for a time to become the first financial center in Asia -- but for China, which was still a backward agricultural country at that time, this kind of parasitic industry did not do much good to the national economy, but often brought huge losses to the common people because of the stock market crash and the futures boom...... Similar to the Asian financial crisis at the end of the 20th century and the Icelandic bankruptcy in the 21st century, Shanghai Tang was a common occurrence in the Republican era.

Although Shanghai's light industry is not bad, with some fist products, it is heavily dependent on imports for all kinds of raw materials, from machinery to industrial production. In the textile industry, for example, machinery is sourced from Britain and the United States, and dyes are sourced from Japan: without establishing its own chemical industry, it means that production is completely dependent on others. What's worse is that even the sales market is largely dependent on foreign trade.

Therefore, in such a situation, the short-term prosperity of the local economy is almost meaningless, and in history, China's national capital, after a short spring, will soon face a long and harsh winter -- the development of simple light industry, in the absence of the corresponding heavy industry base supporting industries, and without the official financial support of the country, is just a rootless duckweed, which will be overturned by the huge wave of foreign capital at any time.

However, even with the seemingly pitiful heavy industry of Shanghai, there was still no other city in China other than "Manchukuo" at this time, which could be compared with it, and thus firmly occupied the first place among the industrial cities in the whole country -- this is both the pride of Shanghai and the sorrow of China......

On this basis, the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army had to carry out large-scale construction, to make up for the lack of necessary industrial projects for the lame Shanghai industry, and to form a self-functioning economy that would provide a solid reserve base for the following brutal war.

Of course, until this series of industrial construction is completed, it can only rely on the industrial production capacity of modern shijie to supplement the shortcomings of Soviet power.

Shanghai Gaochang Temple, Jiangnan Shipyard

Under the rising sun, the trumpets of workers, the noise of noise, the roar of machines, and the knocking of metal sounded everywhere.

The smell of rust and lubricating oil fills the wide, messy slipway, the curves of a steel battleship. It looks particularly imposing in the golden morning glow. Brilliant arcs and sparks flew in the air, and it was the welders who were refurbishing the battleship......

-- After getting all kinds of parts custom-made by Hyundai Shijie, as well as advanced welding equipment and construction consumables. The cruiser "Hirakai", which was forced to stop work because it could no longer import parts from Japan, was finally able to start work again.

Well, in fact, the battleship, which laid its keel on June 28, 1931, was more than 90% complete by this time. It was only because some key parts and construction equipment had to be imported from Japan, but they were often withheld because of the successive Sino-Japanese conflicts, and the appropriations of the Kuomintang Navy were also intermittent. It greatly delayed the construction process of the "Pinghai" cruiser -- otherwise, such a displacement of only 2,300 tons, which was basically the same class as Deng Shichang's Zhiyuan. Jishu was not an advanced "small boat" at that time, where could it be tossed for five years and not be able to launch?

So, having received spare parts for the Hyundai Shijie, the construction of the battleship was carried out quite quickly. It is expected that in another month it will be in the water - on the other hand. At present, it is impossible for this "Japanese-style" battleship to go to Japan to install main guns, rapid-fire guns and anti-aircraft guns, and can only use modern Shijie shipboard weapons...... Of course, this is actually more conducive to improving combat effectiveness, for example, it can also install anti-air and sea-to-sea early warning radars or something.

“…… After the completion of the Pinghai, it will be the first flagship of our Chinese Red Navy...... It's a pity that the tonnage is still a little smaller. ”

Looking at the battleship that had basically taken shape on the slipway, Su Yu smacked his lips a little dissatisfied, and at the same time looked at the water outside the shipyard. Several small gunboats, torpedo boats and missile boats, were under the control of Red Army soldiers. Clumsily going around in circles, they don't get the most out of their high-speed performance at all.

-- Limited to the limitation of the tonnage of transmission. Although Wang Qiu had tried his best, he could only send over a few hundred-ton boats.

“…… As soon as the Red Navy opened, it should be said that it was already very good! Even if we have a giant ship, can we have a good time? Comrades, I can't even play with those boats now! ”

Fang Zhimin said with a smile, "...... Moreover, a big guy like a battleship still has to build it yourself in order to feel at ease, since we have taken over the largest Jiangnan shipyard in China, it is said that even 10,000-ton ships have been built before, and it should not be difficult to build a few big ships in the future......"

“…… This, Comrade Fang Zhimin, the construction standards of warships and merchant ships are completely different! It's not that easy to build! ”

Wang Qiu couldn't help but smile bitterly when he heard this, "...... Moreover, the four 10,000-ton ships built by Jiangnan Shipyard before are actually very watery......"

-- From 1918 to 1919, the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai accepted an order from the United States to build four 10,000-ton cargo ships of the same type, named "Guanfu," "Tianzhao," "Dongfang," and "Aurora," with a displacement of 14,750 tons. When the freighter was launched, Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals in Shanghai vied with each other, boasting: "Except for Japan, it is the largest ship ever built in the Far East." "China's industrial history is a new era."

At first glance, this seems to indicate that old China was able to produce 10,000-ton ships in 1920, which is really gratifying. But in fact, these four 10,000-ton ships are not so much made in China as they are made in foreign countries, and they are assembled in China -- from planning, design, personnel, chief engineers, to the purchase of important raw materials, machinery and equipment, etc., almost all of them are monopolized by foreigners, not to mention the steam engine and transmission system, and even every small part and every piece of hull steel can only be imported, at best it is just a use of China's site and cheap labor.

If you really want to build your own 10,000-ton ship on the basis of a blank space, like the first "Yuejin" 10,000-ton ship built in New China, instead of engaging in simple processing with supplied materials. Then first of all, there must be all kinds of steel, which needs to be tempered in one furnace, shiyan in one furnace, and failed in one furnace...... It is not enough to have steel, it is also necessary to forge large forgings, and it is necessary to develop a 10,000-ton hydraulic press. With forgings, they also need to be finished with machine tools such as turning, grinding, milling, etc. The 10,000-ton ship also needs paints, various non-metallic materials, and a chemical industry needs to be established. The control and dispatching communication of 10,000-ton ships requires power electronics and information electronics. The berthing of 10,000-ton ships requires corresponding berths and wharves, which in turn require sufficient construction jishu......

In short, the birth of a 10,000-ton giant ship is so difficult, full of ups and downs and failures, requiring steel, machinery, chemistry, electronics and other basic industries to establish and coordinate from scratch, without any economic benefits and comparative advantages, but it has accumulated national knowledge and jishu, and has cultivated a large number of professionals and jishu workers in various categories. With the gradual formation and improvement of basic industries such as steel, machinery, chemicals, and electronics, automobiles, trains, airplanes, construction, bridges, home appliances, and all kinds of new industries will grow branches and bear fruit from these backbones.

On the contrary, if "it is better to build than to buy, and it is better to buy than to rent", as the compradors advocate...... Then China will always be an agrarian country.

Next, when they left the "Pinghai" ship under construction and were about to inspect the newly renovated Hongqiao Airport, they received an unexpected news from the radio station or walkie-talkie carried by the orderlies -- the Japanese army had secretly sent an envoy to Xiangshanghai! (To be continued......)
