ACT499: Trojan Horse Tactics

Judging from the enemy's current reactions, Zhao Jian believes that the other party should not know that he has subdued the three alien ships, and he has also repaired Wo-chan's aircraft carrier and Ruth's battleship, only Tarnara's one is still lying in the dock in a broken posture because it is too damaged and lacks raw materials for repair.

But for now, as long as they can win this battle, the rare raw materials for repairing the second Titan-class battleship will also be available!

Zhao Jian's plan is to use Wo Jiang's carrier-based aircraft to fish in troubled waters and penetrate the enemy's shield to kill those fat ships. 12 erosion torpedoes can solve the problem of one qiē.

But for this tactic of Zhao Jian, Chiyou and Xia Weier both expressed the same concern. In case the shield's ability to distinguish friend and foe is not judged by the type of aircraft, then Wo-chan's plane still can't get in.

"It's always worth giving it a try, and the shells have smashed so much, not a few planes."

Directly decided on this operation, Thor immediately ran to Wo-chan's hangar to pick 12 Talon battleships in good condition, and then each of them was hung with two of the latest guided erosion torpedoes. These planes flew out of the Star Fort under the control of Wo Jiang, made a big circle, and went around Qinghai first.

As Zhao Jian expected, these claws were not attacked by the enemy, they turned around safely here, and they were almost beaten down by the dazzling Second Artillery Girl. So after completing the initial test, these sharp claws flew towards the enemy's shield ship, and the Zhao ship also transferred the Meow Bo from the Japanese battlefield on the other side.

From Tarnara and Ruth, Zhao learned that these low-level alien warships of Broken Dawn actually did not have the ability to fight independently, and they needed a "lead ship" nearby to exert their combat effectiveness. But so far in the battle, apart from these miscellaneous fish, no trace of the "lead ship" has been found around.

In other words, nine times out of ten, the lead ship that came this time was a submarine, and the task assigned to Meow Bo by Zhao Jian was to catch this fish!

Breaking the shield ship and finding the black fish, these two operations are carried out at the same time. But at this moment, Zhao Jian's worst fears happened...... Those evil ghosts with "big black sticks" have finally begun to act.

There are as many as 25 demon-class destroyers coming over this time, and at least 5 of them have been confirmed to be loaded with heavy weapons, just as Zhao Jian guessed, these little demons saw the right time and suddenly rushed out of the shield, and they were also the same as those claws, and they put on a layer of invulnerable small shields at the moment of the shield.

The opponent took advantage of this invincible time to launch a strong attack, and suddenly crossed the defense line of the main fleet. Straight and straight towards the Star Castle!

…… Stand-in part......

The Battle of the Coral Sea (May 4, 1942 – May 8, 1942) was a naval battle fought in the Coral Sea in May 1942 between American and Japanese aircraft carrier formations in the Pacific War. The Battle of the Coral Sea was the first time in the history of warfare that an aircraft carrier formation engaged carrier-based aircraft at a long distance, and it was also the first time that the Japanese Navy suffered a setback in the Pacific. The Japanese Navy was forced to abort the offensive on Port Moresby due to the fact that the lost aircraft and pilots could not be replenished immediately.

At the beginning of 1942, the Japanese Combined Fleet was still basking in victory.

The tasks of the first phase have been overfulfilled, but the tasks of the second phase have not yet been finalized. From Japan's point of view, although the economic potential of the United States is great, it will take a while to transition to a wartime state, and it is expected that the United States will be able to organize a counteroffensive in the summer of 1943. And Japan had every time to advance further on the front and expand the defensive circle.

The plan to control Australia was a reflection of this strategy: the Japanese army and navy agreed that Australia would be the largest base from which Britain and the United States would counterattack, but because most of Japan's army was deeply trapped in China, it was impossible to send troops to land in Australia. A viable option would be to sever its ties with Pearl Harbor.

In early February 1942, the Japanese occupied the Rabaul base in the Bismarck Islands in northeastern Australia, and in early March occupied Lae and Salamoa in New Guinea. It is planned that landings will be made at Tulagi and the port of Morbiz in eastern New Guinea.

But due to the activities of American aircraft carriers, this plan was postponed. Until the end of April. The 5th Air Force (Shozuru and Zuizuru) and the 5th Cruiser (Myoko and Haguro) returned from the Indian Ocean and returned to Truk. Plans for the assault on Tulagi and Port Moresby began immediately.

On April 30, 1942, the 5th Air Force, the 5th Cruiser Fleet, and 6 destroyers set off south from Truk as mobile units. Crossing the islands of Hawaii and New Guinea, waiting for an opportunity to destroy Allied surface ships. The landing cover formation consisted of the Xiangfeng light aircraft carrier, 8 cruisers, and 6 destroyers.

As the spearhead of the capture of the port of Morbiz, the advance landing force departing from Rabaul on 28 April, under the cover of the carrier-based aircraft of the Xiangfeng, occupied the small island of Tulagi on 3 May without encountering resistance. Subsequently, on 4 May, the main forces of the landing force sailed from Rabaul to the port of Morbiz in 14 troop transports, under the cover of 6 destroyers and 1 cruiser.

The Xiangfeng and the covering ship that completed the Tulagi landing cover sailed westward to prepare for the landing force, while the 5th Air Force of the Mobile Force was stationed in the Coral Sea. In fact, however, the 17th and 8th U.S. task forces had already entered the Coral Sea ahead of the Japanese mobile formation, and the famous Battle of the Coral Sea in the history of naval warfare took place.

At the beginning of 1942, the Pacific Ocean was a bleak picture for the Allies.

On January 20, 1942, the Japanese I-124 was sunk while laying mines in the port of Darwin, and the U.S. military then fished out the code book from the I-124 with a diving ship.

In the months that followed, with the accumulation of intelligence, especially after the air raid on Tokyo, the Japanese Empire reacted excessively, sending almost all the Combined Fleet, and the intelligence service at Pearl Harbor began to gradually decipher the Japanese code and gradually map out the spearhead of the Combined Fleet's attack with scattered intelligence.

This was the most important basis for the U.S. Navy to be able to maneuver with the Combined Fleet in the early days of the Pacific War

Although Guò deciphered the code, it was known that the Japanese were about to land at the port of Morbiz, and that their advance party would occupy Tulagi first, and basically had the strength invested by the Japanese side.

Nimitz was determined to prevent the Japanese from landing on Morbidz, and this was not a decision to be taken lightly, as it would not be easy for the Allies to gather the necessary forces to deal with the incoming enemy.

The Saratoga was damaged by a Japanese submarine and repaired on the West Coast. On their way back from their attack on Tokyo, the Enterprise and the Hornet had at their disposal the aircraft carriers USS Lexington and Task Force 17 Yorktown, as well as 8 cruisers and 13 destroyers. Under the unified command of Fletcher, the two fleets were stationed in the Coral Sea on May 1.

The first battle began on 3 May, when the Fletcher Navy received news that Japanese troops were landing in Tulagi, and his Yorktown was still more than a hundred miles west of Bad Cap Point. "This is the news we have been waiting for a month," he wrote. He immediately interrupted refueling and ordered a 26-knot-hour heading north to the central Solomon Islands.

At dawn on May 4, the USS Yorktown reached the sea about a hundred miles southwest of Guadalcanal (remember the name). The aircraft carrier fighter pilots read the old National Geographic magazine and launched a series of attacks on enemy forces in the sea near Tulagi, destroying seaplanes and sending back exaggerated reports on how many enemy ships had been sunk, and Fletcher happily reported the victory to Pearl Harbor, followed by the US fleet heading for Port West Morebiz.

Nimitz later reassessed the so-called battle of Tulagi: "The battle was certainly disappointing in terms of the ammunition consumed and the results achieved. "Another mistake in this attack was to expose the strength of the U.S. military, which had an intelligence advantage before the Battle of the Coral Sea. After the attack on Tulagi, the intelligence of both sides was leveled.

On 6 May, under the cover of dense clouds, Fletcher rendezvoused with Admiral Grace's heavy cruiser and the USS Lexington. Oiled together.

The latest intelligence from Pearl Harbor indicates that the invading force of Port Moresby, which used two aircraft carriers to provide air cover, will pass through the Luisia Islands the next day. Fletcher then headed west to the Coral Sea.

Unbeknownst to Fletcher, he had been spotted that afternoon by a Japanese seaplane that was searching everywhere. The news that two American aircraft carriers were on their way to intercept the Japanese convoy invading Port Moresby almost caused panic in the headquarters of the Lieutenant General of the Marine Army at Rabaul. The command urgently ordered the transport ship to stop advancing.

Rear Admiral Takagi's mobile force, led by the Shozuru and Zuizuru, was refueling south of Guadalcanal when he was alerted, and by the time he was ready to reduce the distance to the point where he could launch an air attack, the fleet ran into a thick cloud of fog. Thereupon. He decided to keep refueling and wait until dawn to chase after him.

At about 4 o'clock on 7 May, since the US fleet's position was basically known, the Japanese mobile formation sent 12 carrier-based planes divided into six groups to search for the enemy within a distance of 250 nautical miles between 180 and 270 degrees.

At 5:45, the Japanese planes searching south reported: "One enemy aircraft carrier and one cruiser were found." From 6 a.m. to 6:15 a.m., 9 Zero fighters, 17 bombers, and 11 torpedo planes took off from the Zuihe, and 9 Zero fighters, 19 bombers, and 13 torpedo planes took off from the Xianghe. A total of 78 Japanese planes flew towards the discovered targets.

However, when they reached the sky above the target, they found that it was not the US aircraft carrier group, but the oil tanker Neosho and the destroyer Sims, which had parted ways with Fletcher's own team on the afternoon of 6 July.

A group of Japanese assault planes flew over the squadron and found that it was not an aircraft carrier, so they searched the nearby sea repeatedly for two hours, but still could not find any other targets. The torpedo planes did not attack and began to return at 9:15 a.m., while the 36 dive bombers reluctantly attacked the initially discovered target between 9:26 and 40 a.m.

This is how it felt when the Sims was hit by 3 250-kilogram bombs, 2 of which exploded in the engine room and sank in less than 60 seconds. The Neosho was hit by seven bombs and sank after drifting at sea for several days with a fire. (To be continued......)
