Chapter 11
"That woman, Kelly, why did she refuse to leave?" Lanny walked into the kitchen and muttered puzzled, "Guild intelligence says she saw her husband's body disappear with her own eyes. Wouldn't the average person ask for help to find a reasonable explanation? ”
Ziang followed behind Lanny, followed by the orange ball of light that had been hovering above the antechamber.
"I'm stupid." "The military must have found an excuse to prevent the police department in the town from sending people to this area," Steven said. Kelly spent an afternoon with the spirit here, and it certainly wasn't a good experience. You put yourself in their shoes, and of course, you have to imagine yourself as an ordinary person, and you have to imagine yourself as a woman. ”
In the kitchen, there is a large half-height window that looks out into a large black wasteland. For some reason, the curtains of this window were removed and casually thrown aside.
On the same wall is the back door of the lonely house, and the wooden door panel looks a little old. On the inside of the back door is a doormat with the word "Welcome" printed on it.
The doors of several cupboards were open, and the cupboards were piled with all sorts of quick-cooked foods. There was a little dust scattered on the stove under the cupboard, and the cooking utensils on the table seemed to have not been touched for a long time. The most conspicuous thing is the knife box that sits separately aside. It's made of smooth wooden blocks and beautifully crafted, but the jacks on the box to hold the knives are empty.
Not far from the stove, there is a round table for two, with an armchair on each side of the table. In the whole kitchen, only this round table and one of the chairs are relatively clean.
"Hey, Kurt," Steven bent down and opened the cabinet under the kitchen in turn, "all of this, including my father's appearance, is still in your stupid plan, right?" ”
The cabinets under the kitchen counter are empty. Other than that, there is no place in the kitchen where an adult can hide.
"Don't say useless things." Kurt's voice was heard.
"I don't think you're going to be in trouble for a while." This time it was Dylan's voice, "You should really see the battle between Miss Walton and that spirit," he paused, "Although, although I didn't dare to see it with my own eyes, the screen can show the strength of the spirit, and its approximate location. Wherever Donald's spirit is, I don't think it has time to do anything else. ”
As soon as Dylan finished speaking, a long series of annoying "squeaks" came from the front room.
"Oh, really, thank you for your analysis." Steven scoffed, turning his head to look out the kitchen door.
On the other side of the vestibule, a door opened at some point. Red light shone through the door, staining the otherwise dark antechamber a blood-red color.
Ziang followed the gaze of the other two to the front hall, then turned back and glanced at Steven. "That's what you said......" He didn't finish his sentence, but moved his gaze behind the other man, "Uh, Steven, partner, that joke of yours, I'll give it back to you now." ”
Lannie followed suit and looked at Steven, then pursed her lips. "I was just going to say that," she pointed behind Steven, "it's a 'grandma's footsteps.'" ”
"By the way," Dylan said, "a change in consciousness was detected." ”
Steven rolled his eyes. "Again, thank you for your analysis." He staggered around.
Since Steven's face was at the same height as the Scarecrow's head, the latter's tattered face made the former take a few steps backwards.
"What are you talking about, grandma?" Ziang asked.
"'Grandma's Footsteps.'" "The person who named the spirit was an English spiritualist. In the U.S., it's generally called 'red light, green light'. ”
"Oh - that kid's play." Ziang suddenly realized, "In China, it is called 'wooden people are not allowed to move'. He uttered the last few words in Chinese.
"It's like I can understand what you're saying." Lannie responded.
"'Grandma's Steps' is not lethal, but it is effective in creating a frightening spirit." Dylan said, "This spirit carries less consciousness, does not have a complete mind, and can only do a certain act — to get close to the object of the fright when not being seen." Well, I was just reading the words on the screen, and Mr. Midhoff gave me access to the guild database. Also, as I said before, it is not a spirit before you, but an object of spirit. Donald's spirit deliberately manipulated the scarecrow into the appearance of 'Grandma's Footsteps'. It's actually quite rare for an ordinary spirit to do this. ”
"Thanks for the," Steven stepped forward, "goodbye." He raised his right hand and swung it down diagonally.
The hand unleashed a triangular blue blade of light and slashed at the scarecrow's neck. However, the blade didn't slash through the target, and instead got stuck in the air a punch away from the scarecrow.
Steven's hand fell and hit him on the left side of his body. "Ahh He screamed, rubbing the spot he had hit himself.
The air around the scarecrow suddenly fluctuated.
As if absorbed by this wave, the blade of light vanished in an instant.
"What a strange change of consciousness," Dylan said in surprise, "what did you do?" ”
A flaming piece of rune paper passed between Lanny and Steven and flew towards the scarecrow's face. Unfortunately, it didn't hit the target either, and instead came to a stop just as far from the punch. The flames suddenly extinguished, and the unburned rune paper slowly fell. However, before the rune paper could hit the ground, a wooden chair flew towards the scarecrow in the same trajectory, and then was bounced away in the same position, and before the chair could hit the ground, another shoe flew in......
Steven and Lannie frowned at the same time and looked at Ziang.
"Well, just try." Ziang continued to stare at the scarecrow, stretched out his feet and groped on the ground for a moment, and put his shoes back on.
Steven blinked, "Very pretty." He gave Ziang a thumbs up and sneered.
"Now that we know that Kelly isn't hiding here, there's no need to care about the rest of the stuff." Lannie stared at the scarecrow as she walked backwards out of the kitchen,
The other two followed Lanny's example and retreated into the antechamber.
"Let's wait until something hits the door." Steven muttered and gently closed the kitchen door.
In the corner of the kitchen, blocked by the stove, a cellar door that no one could see opened at some point. A staircase leading to the basement is revealed underneath the door. A white mist spread down the staircase into the kitchen, brushing the scarecrow's sharpened arm and wrapping around the back door of the lonely house.
Outside the window, where the curtains have been removed, the dark wasteland fades away, replaced by a multitude of criss-crossing walls. A large canopy with a faint glow emerges above the walls, which, together with the walls, form a complex confined space.
The back door, enveloped in white mist, opens outward, revealing the same sight as outside the window. The doormat on the floor then rotated half a circle, so that the word "welcome" was directed towards the house.
