Text: Chapter 9
Rainwater trickles down the eaves of the lonely house and merges into a stream among the weeds.
As Steven crossed the stream, Kelly ran into the front door of the lonely house and slammed it shut. With only a few steps to the other side, Steven clearly heard the sound of the door lock sliding, so he lunged to the front steps of the door, kicking the wooden door panel without hesitation.
The door swirled along the hinge and slammed open inward. However, before Steven could kick the door down, the door slammed back in reverse.
Steven kicked a hole in the bottom half of the door, and the top half hit him in the face with a loud bang.
"Uhh His hind foot was so empty that he fell down the stairs with his hands and fell on his back at the feet of Lanny and Ziang.
Both lowered their heads at the same time and looked at Steven silently.
"It's just tactics." Steven muttered, got up from the ground, and walked up the front steps again, "so that you can intuitively understand what Kurt is talking about by 'defensive measures.'" He stretched out his index finger and swiped it from the bottom up.
A dot of blue light crossed the side of the door containing the hinge.
The door panel fell straight backwards and slammed into the floor of the house.
"Pediatric measures." Steven strode into the lonely house, but this time, his feet still didn't fall - the fallen door suddenly stood up, hitting Steven in the face again, causing him to roll down the steps in the same motion as before.
Lanny looked at Steven, who had fallen back into place. "Or tactics?" She said expressionlessly, "Playing back in time? β
Steven got up in a fit of rage, rushed to the lonely house with his hands raised, and made a tossing motion against the door.
The door panel was pushed into the interior of the lonely house by an invisible force, and a series of sounds crashed into the antechamber.
"If it's a misfortune and you crush Kelly to death, see how you play it." Lannie muttered and walked into the lonely house first.
There was not a glimmer of light in the vestibule. There was a faint amount of dust in the air.
Steven, who was the last to come in, pressed a switch on the wall, but none of the lights came on.
"It's so old-fashioned again." Steven said, shaking his head.
An orange ball of light rose from Lanny's side to the roof of the shed, illuminating the surrounding scene.
The door panel smashed into the couch in the center of the vestibule, knocking half of it into the fireplace. Not far from this fireplace, there is a staircase leading to the second floor, and at the bottom of the staircase there is a half-hidden door that looks out into the corner of the kitchen. A wooden stick sticks out of the crack in the door, horizontal in the air, looking very strange.
"Kelly!" Steven walked to the middle of the antechamber and shouted, "Trust me, you don't want to stay here!" β
"Do you need to split up?" Ziang asked, "Let's find her quickly." β
"Hollywood horror movies tell you," Lannie said, "that people who say things like that don't usually live to the end." β
"No, no, it's unfair." "Because we don't have blacks on our team, no matter what he says, the first to die is ...... Hey! He suddenly pointed to the door leading to the kitchen and screamed.
A scarecrow wearing a half-hooded head tilted his head appears behind the door. It's missing an eye. The straw popped out of half of its mouth, making it look rather frightening. The stick that was one of its arms reached down from the tilt of its head, almost touching the ground.
"It wasn't there, was it?" Steven said.
Ziang threw a piece of talisman paper at the scarecrow.
The rune paper burns when it touches the opponent's head, creating a small flame of fire.
A few exposed straw plants were ignited by the flames, but all of them were extinguished before they could reach the roots. The scarecrow fell down, and the stick that was one of its arms held up to the ground, allowing its head to rest against the doorframe.
"Aboutβthat," Steven said in a long voice, looking at Ziang, "I've seen you throw pieces of paper before." Can't you indulge in the spirit normally? β
Ziang opened his mouth.
"What's your marker color?" Steven continued to ask, not giving Ziang time to answer, "Don't tell me it's green." In our case, green is for the military, it belongs to that, what is it called, Hermir. β
"Hemmer." Lannie corrected, "Hemir is the old man who sells hot dogs at the guild's back door. β
"Uh, what's a marker color?" Ziang asked.
Steven's eyes widened, staring at Ziang for a few seconds, then nodded meaningfully. "Kelly! Please come out now! He threw up his head and exclaimed, "I really don't want to take two fools and play some game of brave haunted house!" β
"We'll color mark the locations of our spirits," Lannie said, "so that our minds don't collide." β
"Oh!" Ziang suddenly shouted, "So the ...... on the roof" He didn't finish his sentence, but followed his gaze to the door leading to the kitchen.
At some point, the scarecrow vanished.
"If I say to you, 'Don't look back,' wouldn't you get excited and throw me in the face." Steven sneered, reaching out and pressing the button on the headset communicator, "Your name is Dylan, right?" Is there a conscious change around us? β
Dylan didn't respond immediately.
"Hello? Dylan? Steven exclaimed.
"Ahh I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Dylan's voice came, "Suddenly a strange person came, and he was entangled with him for a long time." β
"Weirdos? Who are you talking about? Steven asked.
"The people in the military seem to be quite weighty." Dylan responded, "Mr. Midhoff calls him 'Colonel Taka,' or something. β
"My, Daddy?!" Steven suddenly exclaimed in an exaggerated voice.
"What are you...... Exclamation, or statement of facts? Dylan said confusedly, "Oh, by the way, let me explain a little bit about the change in consciousness." My machine can locate spirits and directly show them the other person's carrier. I just imported the structure diagram of the house, thanks to the guild's database. But it's really strange that there are architectural drawings of such an old house in the database. As for the change in consciousness, yes, as long as there is a change, I can locate it, and I can also tell you what the other party's carrier is, but to detect this change, you must wait for the other party first, yes, the change ......" The more he said, the quieter his voice became.
"What a mess." "We've come across a couple of moving objects, so we'd like to ask if you can detect spirits around us. β
"Theoretically," Dylan paused, "they are not called spirits, but indulgent objects." The spirit is the carrier of non-living consciousness with an independent mind. A Soul Object is something that has been altered by the Spirit Ability. Take the candlestick that you saw earlier, for example, if it is the object of the spirit, then the reason it will move is because the spirit changes its kinetic energy, and once the spirit stops, it will fall to the ground. β
"Oh my god, this guy ......" Steven reached out and hammered his forehead, "Shut up, shut up!" He said angrily, "Ask you again, is there anything around us that wants to kill us?" β
"I've been answering that question all the time." Dylan responded, "Detecting a change in consciousness requires a change in the other person's mind, such as moving, emitting, radiating, and so on. As soon as there is such a change, and it is not too subtle, my machine can detect it and be able to locate it. β
"Understood." Steven said sarcastically, "That's why I had to get slashed before I could hear you shout, 'Be careful, that kitchen knife moves!'" ββ
"Wait a minute, Dylan," Lannie said, "isn't that candlestick a carrier for the subject?" β
"I can only say that it may be." Dylan said, "Ordinary spirits don't usually take control of other things. After all, the spirit lowers the total consciousness, and the consciousness of the spirit is not regenerative like yours. The man who committed suicide was called Donald, right, he was just a maintenance worker in the university, so his spirit should also belong to the 'ordinary' category. β
"Wouldn't it be nice to directly test the total consciousness?" Steven said, "The higher the total consciousness, the more powerful the spirit, isn't it?" β
"Basically correct." Dylan responded, "But again, testing total consciousness requires action on the part of the other party. β
"What is the total consciousness of the candlestick?" Lanny asked, "Emilia is fine alone." β
"Oh my God, I forgot about the weirdo just now." Dylan said, "I'll test now." But even if the candlestick is only an object of indulgence, and the real spirit is still in that house, I don't think it can do anything to you. After all, you can't use two things at the same time, and the same is true for indulging two objects at the same time. β
"Can you see Amilia?" Ziang asked.
"She's been struggling with that candlestick." "It's just a little bit of a gesture, and we haven't really started yet." β
"Until now?" Steven said, "Then what we just happened was really a 'snap' slap in the face." He stepped through the door that led to the kitchen.
In some dark corner, a wooden stick began to rub against the wall, making a trivial noise. The sawdust fell, revealing a tip on the stick's head.
