Chapter 47: The Garden
By the time she reached a place where no one could be seen, Bianko no longer had the strength to "run". She gasped for breath and struggled to move her legs, feeling dizzy in front of her.
She looked back with difficulty, and there was no figure behind her, maybe she had managed to get rid of them? She didn't know, but for more peace of mind, Bianko decided to go the extra mile.
In front of her was a large uphill climb, which thankfully had many raised rocks that she could tread on. As the distance she traveled increased, the woods on both sides became denser. Eventually, she walked to a wall covered in vines, and after looking around to make sure there was no figure, Biancole leaned feebly against the wall, slowly regaining her strength.
Little by little, the sound of her heartbeat calmed down, and when it was finally less deafening enough to make her ears ache, she gradually heard some rustling sounds. The sound was unfamiliar, and she had never heard anything like it before.
Bianko tried to tell what it was, but no matter how hard she listened, she could only hear a vague sound, as if it were through a layer of cloth. This made her realize to her dismay that her hearing had not yet recovered.
The girl sighed, then coughed again. She felt that she needed to drink some water when she returned to town, otherwise it might be very uncomfortable. Although her instincts told her that it was right to return to town as soon as possible, her sore legs and knife-cut throat and chest told her that she would have to sit a little longer before she could drag her tired body again.
Biancole looked up at the sky blankly, trying to gauge the time. It was about noon when they arrived at the woman's shop, and thankfully they hadn't had time to eat lunch yet. Melia had taught her that she shouldn't run after eating, that was not good for her health, and that she would find that her heavy stomach prevented her from running quickly.
It seems to be getting a little darker now, maybe it's almost time for dinner? No, maybe it was earlier, because she remembered that it was almost completely dark by the time she had dinner.
She seemed to have been running all the way out for a long time, and she thought that this town was not very big, because when they left Nobil's house to get to the gate of the city, it took a long, long time even to take a carriage, and this town was not as long as that. But the run had completely overturned her previous thoughts—the town was so big that it felt like she couldn't run to the end.
Bianko, whose breathing was almost normal, looked left and right at her surroundings. There are a lot of plants and trees growing here, and it looks very messy, not at all like the garden of the Nobel family, maybe the people who take care of this place are lazy, or maybe in their eyes, it is more beautiful?
"If you want to say a general marker, at the west end of the town is a large abandoned garden......"
What Lanoda had said in the carriage suddenly sounded in Bianko's head, and the girl subconsciously struck a spirit.
Is this the "great garden that has been abandoned"? Did she come this far?
Rano said there were snakes and wolves...... Wouldn't it be better to go back quickly?
The small voices in her ears seemed to be terrifying, she hadn't really seen a snake or a wolf, or any animal. But when they were in prison, Rossi and Rano drew pictures on the ground for her to see from afar, and later Melia showed her books to show her what the animals looked like, and told her how dangerous they were, and that if they did, they should hide as far away as possible.
Maybe...... Should she start walking back? It's okay to be even slower......
A creepy voice gradually amplified in her ears, and a voice suddenly appeared in Bianko's heart, and it was urging her to get up quickly, at least to get out of this wall, now.
Tired and too tired to think about it, Bianko heeded the urge and jumped to her feet and took two steps forward, before having to stop again because of the soreness of her muscles. Although the hunch in her heart told her that looking back was definitely not a good choice, she listened to her curiosity and slowly and little by little twisted her body back.
Almost instantly, Biancole felt herself lose all her temperature, the cold sensation spreading from the top of her head to her toes, and the veil-like thing that had blocked her hearing for so long seemed to be lifted, and all the sounds came clearly into her ears.
There was much more to the wall than just vines, because it was impossible for vines to writhe like that even when they were blown by the wind. Many, many slender bodies of different colors squirmed slowly, their teeth souring with the sound of their scales rubbing against the vines and walls, and the "sizzle" of letters coming out of their mouths made her body tremble slightly.
The walls that had just been vacated by her stay were slowly filled by the animals. The creatures that should have been called "snakes" were cascading and wandering across the walls, not knowing why they weren't attacking her, but their eyes were on her, she knew.
She felt her heart beating violently again, and the sound of "thump" and "thump" made it feel as if the heart was pounding against her body, as if it was eager to jump out. Bianko's mind went blank and she couldn't think, she subconsciously took a step back, and the snakes still didn't attack her. It may have been a good thing, but she didn't know what the snakes were thinking about, and she didn't dare to stay here any longer.
Just as Biancole was about to run back into the town a little farther away, there was a slight noise in the bushes on either side. A pair of yellow eyes were so obvious in the sky now, the sound of heavy breathing was hitting her hearing, and the sound of saliva sliding from those hideous mouths to the ground fell into her ears like thunder. The limbs with sharp claws paced out of the bushes one after another, and Bianko didn't dare to move.
That's supposed to be a wolf, Melia said. Gray fur, sharp claws and teeth, fierce eyes. They are much faster than humans, and it is difficult to escape without some means.
But there was no fire in her hands, and there was no way to scare them away. It was getting darker, and if she couldn't see the way clearly, it would be harder to leave.
Do you want to escape? Can you escape?
The wolf that slowly approached her did not give her more time to hesitate, although there were only two wolves walking towards her now, but there were more voices from the bushes, she could not stop here, she would definitely die, she had to flee.
When the stench of the beast reached her nose, Bianco's heavy legs seemed to be injected with new power, and she turned and ran as fast as she could, not even caring if it would alarm the snakes.
The sore muscles seemed to be no match for her life, and she did her best to stretch her legs, but the beast's roar and exhalation did not distance her, but slowly closed the gap. The whistling wind seemed to mock her indiscretion, and a strange sound behind her head made Bianko follow her instincts and pounce diagonally forward, then roll to the ground in embarrassment.
"Ahh
The girl's legs were cut with deep blood from the sharp claws, but no matter what, she avoided the attacks that would have knocked her down or dug a hole in her back. And now is far from the time when she can relax and rest, she must get up quickly, and continue to move forward, forward-
Biancoo choked back tears, staggered and continued to run. But the injury only slowed her down, and the wolves, soaked in the smell of blood, had continued to pursue her, and if she continued like this, she would only be caught up and then pierced by the minions. It must have hurt, she didn't want that.
What to do? What to do? What should she do now......
The girl in front of her was a little blurry, and she ran to the same place where she had gone uphill - a downhill for her current position. Viewed from above, the raised stone platforms are even more vivid, and even shimmer in brilliant colors reflected by the setting sun.
In her state, if she runs, she will fall, right? In the event of a fall......
What if you fall?
She might roll all the way down, it would hurt, but could she roll a little faster than a wolf?
Standing here, she could even see a faintly swaying figure in the distance, she couldn't tell if it was the residents or those who had come to hunt her down, but what she did know was that between being caught and dying, the latter would never have any hope.
Biancole took a deep breath as she crouched down on the edge, clasping her head with her hands. The girl took one last look at the rocks along the way, gritted her teeth and closed her eyes, curled up her body in a ball, and turned herself down with all her might.
"—Bianco!"
The pain of being sliced open by a plant, the dizziness of being hit after rolling over a stone, made Bianko's consciousness blur a little, and the beast's voice was still not far away, but it was not near her. The sound of the snake spitting out a letter came and went, did her hearing get better again, or did she have auditory hallucinations because she was afraid? She was completely unclear about it.
She didn't even know if the call she heard just now was an illusion or real, would the young master call her like that? Master...... When the young master called her name, he always seemed to be angry with her.
She won't make the young master angry anymore...... Would it be okay to let her go back?
After she goes back, she will study hard, let the young master complete his task as soon as possible, and leave Nobil's house as soon as possible, as long as she does not see her again in the future......
Suddenly there was a strange sound in her ears, as if it was metal, as if it was ...... The sound of Melia slicing a knife into a piece of flesh and bone in the kitchen.
…… Was it her delusion? She seems to ...... No more tumbling down.
Bianco's eyes opened, and the grinning face of her friend's overseer was in front of her, and she even greeted her casually.
"We've caught a lamb."
