Section D, Chapter 30: Padlocks (Seresia)
This should be the basement entrance...... Surveying the iron door in front of him, Mad Dog focused on the handle, which had a lock.
Cut, is it locked?Mad Dog pouted: Forget it, it's okay if you don't go down and look at it.
Turning around, Mad Dog planned to take a look at the utility room next to him. However, at this moment, a strange "clang" sound sounded in the back, which made the mad dog's heart tremble suddenly.
Where did the voice come from...... Just behind the door? Mad Dog's heart was beating violently, and he felt a little panicked: it sounded like something heavy had been knocked down.
Could it be a rat or something? As soon as the idea came to my head, it was immediately rejected: impossible. If it's really a heavy object, the size of a rat will never be able to knock it over.
There's definitely something wrong with the basement...... Clenching the handle of the lantern, Mad Dog took a deep breath: I must go down and take a look, maybe the Corruptor is hiding inside.
If someone is hiding inside, the door shouldn't be locked from the outside! Staring at the blazing yellow light, the mad dog wonders more and more: if he doesn't have auditory hallucinations, then he is definitely too worried. After all, it's not surprising to lock the basement......
As he pondered, the cellar burst into an even louder tremor. Immediately after, as if to dispel his concerns, a series of "sparse" sounds penetrated the door panel and went straight to the ears of the mad dog.
This is...... Seresa frowned: it seemed to be the sound of a pile of jars rolling to the ground.
It seems that there really is someone inside. The mad dog approached the door, listening carefully for possible sounds. To his disappointment, however, there was no further noise behind the door for a long time. Even when he shouted at him, there was no response.
If someone was there, then why did he make all that noise? Staring at the door lock, Mad Dog pondered: If it wasn't for the fact that he was trying to lead me down, someone would have been trapped inside and begging for help. And what is certain is that he is in a state where he is unable to move and speak. And just now I may have fainted.
If it's some Ice Child trapped inside, that's over...... Thinking like this, Mad Dog felt that something was wrong: how long had this man been kept here, and if he had been imprisoned here before the massacre, he should not have survived. The Prague adjutant who may have been controlled is left alone, but there have been several groups of people who have cleaned up the scene since then, and it is impossible to ignore this place.
So, the lock didn't last long...... Sensing that the space around him was getting darker, Mad Dog leaned the lantern closer to the padlock to take a closer look: there was no dust, and there were no bullet marks at the bite. That is, it has not been locked for more than a day.
Grabbing the chain and testing it, he concluded that it couldn't be cut with a dagger. Clutching the lock in his hand, he narrowed his eyes and peeked inside with a halo: a simple spring-loaded lock, horribly old. He can do this with a single wire.
With this kind of unprofessional lock, it is too contemptuous of people...... Comfortably putting down the oil lamp, he pulled out a wire from the cloth bag around his waist: playing this game with a professional assassin who had pried countless treasure chests?
Bend the tip of the wire slightly, and the mad dog pinched his finger and fine-tune it against the keyhole. However, at this moment, there was a rhythmic sound of footsteps behind me.
"Yo, knight. Slightly surprised, Mad Dog turned around: "Why did you come down so quickly...... The second floor is all investigated?"
"Not yet. The knight's expression stiffened slightly: "Mad Dog, come with me." I noticed something wrong in the study on the second floor. β
"Something is wrong? I'm not right here. There seemed to be someone in the basement, and it was just making noise. Squinting his eyes, Mad Dog felt that the knight's performance was a little nervous: "Your face is the most wrong, knight." Don't tell me there's a ghost. β
"It's not a ghost. The knight shook his head: "I found a puddle of black ice debris hidden under the carpet, which is why I came to you." Lusha had been called upstairs and was waiting for us there. β
"Black ice debris? Mad Dog raised his eyebrows and returned his gaze to the wire, "Go up first, knight." Lao Tzu has to pry this door open to see what is low. It won't take much time, I guessβ"
Just inadvertently, Mad Dog glanced at the oil lamp. It was such a simple act that made the mad dog feel a strong fluctuation in his heart, and he swallowed the words that came to his mouth: the knight did not bring an oil lamp, and when he went upstairs, he used the lighting technique attached to the shield. However, there was obviously no light around him just now, so could it be that it was dark? That would be reasonable, but it wasn't like a knight's style.
This person may be a clone capable of night vision...... A terrible thought came to mind, and the mad dog pinched the wire and maintained a calm expression: "Knight, how is it? Do you want to go down with me to investigate? Lusa is not afraid of the dark, so there is nothing wrong with letting her wait a little longer." β
"Let's go upstairs first. The knight looked impatient, obviously impatient: "We can come here again in a while." β
Why don't you want to explain the reason why you have to go upstairs, and you are so impatient...... Mad Dog secretly analyzed in his heart: if it were a real knight, he would probably only have two reactions - agree with my point of view and investigate together, or propose that the girl should not be left to wait alone.
"Don't worry, knight?" Mad Dog turned his head and raised the wire in his hand with a smug expression, "I haven't seen it for a long time, have you? I've shown you a few times, Lao Tzu's lock-picking skill! Remember? The last time we were at the ferry, I unlocked the lock in four seconds--although you were not interested in watching it. β
"Remember, remember. But there's no need to perform now. The knight sighed, "Let's go." β
Mad Dog maintained a hippie smile, but sneered in his heart: I made up the ferry incident. You've only seen me unlock once, or a month ago.
That's not enough...... Mad Dog twisted the wire and hummed a song: if I'm not mistaken, the clone should have inherited the memory. But there are so many memories in a lifetime, how can he copy them all? Presumably, he only copied the important memories that were crucial and impressed by the person being copied. So if so......
If so, then the Hooded Man's spell doesn't work against the clones?, with a plan to kill two birds with one stone, Mad Dog put down the padlock in his hand and suddenly asked the unaware man: "Knight, we have been looking for your daughter and wife for so long without any gains, should we look for it in another place?" I have long wanted to leave this hellish place. β
"Let's go back and think about it. The knight was stunned for a moment, and urged again: "Let's go, and come back to get this lock." β
"Okay. Determined, Mad Dog picked up the lamp and stood up: "Go, knight, I don't know where the study is." β
As the enemy turned unsuspectingly, Mad Dog drew his bayonet sword and stabbed him in the throat.
