Section F, Chapter 16: Investigating the Bloodstains (Deerno)
At a quarter past twelve o'clock in the afternoon.
The woods outside Winterfell, Snowcastle.
Pushing aside another bush, Deerno looked closely at its roots, but when he found no suspicious traces of blood, he shook his head in disappointment and crouched down to another bush.
"Are you still looking?" A voice suddenly sounded from behind, startling Delno: "What time is it, and you are not going to lunch yet?"
The tone and Eurasian language of the hanger lang dang must be the voice of a mad dog...... To test his suspicions, he turned back to look at the man who was taking a big gulp of wine from a flask: sure enough, it was Cereya.
"Is it late now?" he subconsciously rolled up his sleeve, he looked at his wrist, but was frustrated to find that he didn't have a watch: "Hey, why didn't I have a ......watch?"
"Well, here we are. The watch was thrown to the ground with a "click", and the mad dog coughed dryly: "I heard Eders say that if you forget to take the watch, you may always find it here until it gets dark, so I sent it to you." β
"Then don't throw it away!" Distressedly, he grabbed the watch that fell into the snowdrift, and Deno hurriedly wiped the snow stuck on it: "This is a high-precision mechanical watch that I ordered in other places and only needs to be wound once in five days...... Good value. What should I do if I break it?"
"How can I break it at such a height? Lusa's watch was accidentally thrown from the third floor of Cold Snow Castle by me, and nothing happened at all. Pouting disdainfully, Mad Dog took the flask away from his mouth: "Besides, it would be nice to accompany you if it was broken." No matter how expensive this thing is, how expensive can it be?"
This thing cost me four euros...... For 12,000 fars, I can't afford a second one. "I remember that Lusa's watch was enchanted by her lover, right?" After checking the watch and finding that it was not damaged, Deenor finally breathed a sigh of relief: "It must not break." β
"It seems like that's the case. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thrown it down the window. Coughing heavily, Mad Dog put on an extremely complicated expression after saying it: "Anyway...... I'm here to bring you this. β
"What is it?" Derno stood up, but his legs, which had been weak and limp for a long time, fell to the ground. Fortunately, the mad dog reached out in time to pull it, otherwise the clumsy adjutant would have been soaked in the snowdrift.
"What do you usually call this thingβbento?" said Rare, without sneering at Derno, Seresa said slowly, "just a few sandwiches, anyway." I think you'll be hungry, so I'll drop by. β
"I'm not hungry yet......," he had just said a few words, and before he could finish the second syllable of nuserny (Eurasian for 'hungry'), he was so frightened by the mad dog's expression that he hurriedly changed his words: "No, I mean - I'm actually hungry, thank you so much." β
"Oh, don't pretend to be garlic with Lao Tzu. Frowning, the mad dog who had stuffed the burden on Derno put on a playful expression again: "I'm so surprised that I brought you something to eat? β
Captain Eders seems to think so, but I don't think mad dogs are that hard to communicate...... Except that it's often a little scary. had to smile to relieve the embarrassment, Deno hugged the burden, but was a little overwhelmed: "It's so windy here, I can't eat the sandwich if you take it out......"
"Why are you so hypocritical? You can't just find a leeward place to eat. Pointing at himself proudly, the mad dog said eloquently: "Learn from me, you can swallow things anywhere." β
"But I remember that you have a bad stomach because of this?" whispered, Derno held the cloth bag, and was in a dilemma: "Forget it, I'll take it back and eat it later." β
"Pull it down, you don't eat it for me. Reclaiming the bag, Mad Dog glanced into the depths of the woods: "The guards who investigated the forest have gone to eat...... Why are you the only one here?"
"I wasn't hungry, so I wanted to investigate it myself, taking advantage of the quietness around. Hanging his head in embarrassment, Deirno pointed to the grass beside him: "I think those monsters may have dragged people into some bush and eaten them, so they must have left blood stains or something......"
"You're stupid, if that's going to be a bone. If there was anything so obvious, it would have been found in the morning. Snorted disdainfully, the mad dog's gaze was obviously fixed in the distant forest: "Didn't I say that you stay here alone, and you are not afraid of being served as lunch by monsters? β
"I can't really fight, but these monsters shouldn't theoretically come out. Firmly, De Reno added: "There have been similar disappearances in the past few days, all at night. Therefore, it can be inferred that they are afraid of the sun......"
"Don't talk to Lao Tzu about theories. Hearing this impatiently, Mad Dog waved his hand and dismissed it: "Then I can still say that they only came out at night for covert operations, isn't there any problem? Seeing that you weak and unseemly fellow has been in a daze all the time staying here alone, it is not unusual for them to suddenly rush out and kill you." β
"This ...... It seems to be right. Dumbfounded by this remark, Deerno gave up his rebuttal: he suddenly felt very frightened when he let the mad dog say that. Although the patrol cavalry on the avenue had been urgently deployed again, it was impossible to keep an eye on it all the time.
"Do you know why I'm looking for you, Dereno?" Pulling a sandwich with a thick ham from the bag, Mad Dog munched on his food in the cold wind, "Because I want to confirm what you told me in the morning." β
Looking at the ham in the sandwich, Derno, who was suddenly whetted by his appetite, struggled to keep his eyes steady: "I just suspect that these monsters are just those two hunters, and there is no basis." β
"I think there's already evidence. Squinting her eyes, Seresa said slowly, "Didn't you notice it too? Those pieces of internal organs obviously belonged to the marks left by the horse's corpse after it was gnawed. β
"But it's because of this that I feel confused. Knowing what the mad dog was trying to say, Deerno explained uneasily: "Judging from the scene, the horse must have died on the road." But if the horse corpse is not dragged away, it will be eaten directly, and the amount of bleeding will inevitably be less. Besides, there was no clue where the rider had gone, so ......"
"Oh, he must be dead, don't even think about it. In the blink of an eye, Mad Dog had eaten an entire sandwich with terrible speed: "And you're absolutely crooked, nerdβthe rider who died here wasn't a patrol cavalryman." β
