Chapter 62: The Kuroki Guard
The Count of Olgas was a tall man in his forties, with curly jujube hair and a beard, which could be described as burly compared to the slightly thin Viscount Josza.
Even though it was hot, the Count wore a blue-blue plate armor covered in runes. This old piece of armor was covered in scars and signs of wear, and I don't know how many fierce battles it had experienced. Xiao Chen could see from the complexity of the magic array attached to it that this was definitely a very high-grade armor.
After the two met, they hugged each other and patted each other on the shoulder, apparently as Viscount Josa said, they knew each other well and had a good relationship.
Count Olgas invited the viscount to sit down and said straight to the point: "I know that you are here on behalf of the Chinese, although I can't get much information in this black wood pass, but your coming here means that Suero has fallen, right?"
Viscount Josa said: "Suero has fallen into the hands of the Chinese a few days ago, but it is difficult to say that this is a bad thing. Do you know what this guy Baldini is going to do if the Chinese don't come?"
"I don't like guessing games, just say it. The Earl said.
"He has already contacted the Imperials, and more than sixty Black Guards have infiltrated Suero under the leadership of Master Garriot, a bloodline warrior master. Viscount Josa said.
"What?" Count Olgas's face changed, "The last time the border was opened was two months ago, and he actually hooked up with the Empire so early?"
"Yes, these people have been lurking in his lordship. It was not until the Chinese went to war with him that it was exposed. Little did we know that he was going to sell the entire territory north of Suero to the Empire. β
"Even if he makes any small moves, the Imperials will pass me. The Earl said.
Viscount Josa said: "According to the confession of the captured Black Guard, they originally planned to let the Black Guard's masters infiltrate the Black Wood Pass in the name of replenishing troops next month, and join forces with the Imperial Army outside to break through the pass. To be fair, if it weren't for the Chinese who showed up to stop all this and wiped out all the black guards, they might still have infiltrated the level and caused damage, right?"
The earl was silent for a while and said, "The Chinese are no better than them, these people suddenly turned their faces when the kingdom was at its most difficult and unstable, and a piece of meat was cut off from the kingdom's body. They were just another vulture that ate the carcass. Giving these greedy guys identity and territory was the biggest mistake made by the previous king. β
Viscount Josa said, "But now Suero is in their hands. I took a hard look at what they did there. They are by no means a bunch of mages who just want to take advantage. What they're doing is building a strong nation. Isn't that something that people like you have been pursuing?"
"What a joke!" said Count Olgas with anger, "I am after a mighty Iberian kingdom, and no other country. β
Viscount Josa asked earnestly, "Has your family been guarding the border just for the sake of the kingdom?" I remember twenty years ago, when we first met you at a family gathering, you argued with a group of bombastic nobles that defending the country was not only about defending the royal family and nobles, but also about defending the commoners from the enemy.
At the time, everyone around me laughed at you for being naΓ―ve, but I knew you were serious. That kind of look, that kind of attitude, only people who are really willing to do things will be revealed.
I know that even though you were laughed at by them that time, you have been doing it all these years.
I've always been in Suero, and I've rarely come here, but I've long heard that the army you control is the least disturbing of the people. Even if you manage the most oily checkpoints in the kingdom, you rarely reach out to the poor people who go to the border to earn a living, and instead focus your taxes on the rich merchants. β
The viscount's call made the earl's expression soften a lot, "Even if these are true, what does it have to do with the Chinese?"
"The Chinese are the group of people in the world who value civilians the most besides you. Equally, they are some of the most powerful people in the world. I believe that if you hand over the Black Wood Pass to them, the land behind you will be better managed, and the Empire will not have a chance to attack it. β
"Are you so confident in them?" asked the Earl, a little puzzled.
"Yes, I am so confident that I am still on their side despite being stripped of my knighthood. Seeing the other party's solemn expression, Viscount Josa said, "This is not aimed at me, but in their kingdom, there is no such thing as a nobleman at all." β
Viscount Josa took out Xiao Chen's letter and handed it to the Earl, "This is a letter that their high-ranking mage, Xiao Chen, asked me to bring to you. He said that when you see it, you will make up your mind. β
The Count took the envelope in his hand and examined it, and opened it. There was nothing else in the envelope but a thin sheet of paper. He pulled it out and saw an intricate circle drawn on it. As soon as the circle appeared in front of his eyes, it spun around naturally.
Olgas felt something invade his head, connected with his mind. Just as he was trying to resist with luck, a voice suddenly sounded in his ears: "Count Olgas, I am Xiao Chen, a magician from China, I think you may still be a little hesitant by now." So I'd like to show you some footage. Don't worry, it won't hurt you mentally and physically. β
Olgas suddenly felt that the world around him was slowly moving away from him.
Then the image that shocked him appeared around him, not just a simple picture, but as if he was in such an environment.
He saw Suero shrouded in flames, the seemingly impregnable barrier of the city had been shattered, and countless black dots fell into the city through the gaps, each of which would burst into a cloud of sparks in the city. In a short period of time, a city was in flames.
He saw the green-clad soldiers, who were less murderous but more elite than his men, fighting with a long pole that spewed metal particles. A metal storm from thousands of long poles can destroy hordes of enemies from great distances.
Then his surroundings changed, and he came to a city that he had never seen before, and saw tall buildings, clean classrooms, huge workshops, strange iron cars, and energetic, confident civilians, all of whom had happened in Chinese cities.
He understood that this was all the power that the other party had shown him, both destruction and creation, and the latter was far more terrifying than the former.
