Section B, Chapter 10: Massacre (Eders)
In the dense snow and fog, a anxious Eders discerned the direction and led the team through block after block.
At a fork, the captain gave the order to stop. The horses behind him stopped one after another.
Looking at the two buildings with red dots on the map, Eders looked at the fork in the road and shouted at his lieutenant, "Prague, you lead the detachment to the right hand and control Sam - the other six, follow me!"
Prague was the first to move the horse's belly, and five horses followed closely behind him.
Knocking the horse's belly with his heel, Edus controlled his mount to run wild. The six team members behind him also reacted quickly and followed the captain. The crunch of the horse's hooves hitting the icy ground kept hitting Edus's heart: faster, faster......
Damn, why didn't I think about it sooner?, Eddes cursed himself inwardly with great remorse: he was obviously one of the few people who knew this - the two hunters saw the black ice, and it was Michiro who escorted them back, and there was a change in the meeting with Lord Mace. If he hadn't forgotten to inform Master Nadia about this after learning about it from the city wall guards, I'm afraid the two hunters would have been brought under control.
He had assumed that the hunters were just important witnesses to the dark ice, and that Lord Mace would summon them to inquire about them when he woke up - but Mace's words made his heart palpitate, and the suspicion that the two hunters might have been corrupted terrified that he had to kill the possibility before the worst happened.
In the wind and snow, the mount was running at maximum speed. The sharp cold wind made Eddes unable to open his eyes, so he had to lower his body to narrow his field of vision and squint to observe the road.
The last fork in the road...... Edus nervously scanned the terrain: he was about to reach Nag's house.
Grabbing the reins on the left and squeezing the horse's belly hard, the mount turned into the street on the left.
It is the third south-facing house in the penultimate part of the street...... Recalling the red circle on the map, the captain pulled the reins in front of the house.
After taking out the map again to confirm, Edus, who put away the map, jumped off his horse: "Soldiers, get off the horse and gather!"
The team jumped off and stood in front of Edus.
Taking a deep breath, Eddes said slowly, "Guys, I think you're already well aware of our mission. There's only one thing I'll repeat here - if the hunter Nag shows signs of being transformed, kill him immediately. Got it?"
After receiving a unanimous reply from the team, Eders shook the snow off his body and approached the door.
Taking another deep breath, the captain knocked on the door and said loudly, "Is Mr. Nag at home, may I ask you, Mr. Nag, we are members of the garrison, and Lord Mace has invited you to talk to Snowcastle." β
No response.
Is the wind too loud...... The captain knocked on the door again in surprise, "Mr. Nag, are you home?"
Still no response.
After knocking on the door, there was still no response. Edus already felt bad: perhaps he had been corrupted and had escaped from his home. Or pretend not to be at home......
"He's probably out of the house. One soldier said: "It's impossible not to hear such a loud knock on the door." β
"No way. Edus was sure of this: "I ordered them not to go out yesterday until the lord summons them. Moreover, the hunter has a family - there is no reason for the whole family to go out with such heavy snow. β
Then he just pretended not to hear. The other soldier hesitated for a moment, then said, "Perhaps...... He's been corrupted?"
Eders was uneasy: "There's no reason for him to pretend he can't hear...... But if it is really transformed into a corruptor, the family members in the house ......"
There was silence as Eders tried not to think about what he might see.
After another unanswered knock on the door, Edus decided to make a final attempt: "If there's no one inside, we're going to break in!"
As expected, there was no response.
"Quill, cut the door open. Eders turned and walked down the steps.
"Leave it to me. Quill approached the door in a gruff voice and unhooked the axe behind his back.
After two consecutive slashes, Quill pulled the door lock and scrambled into the house.
"Keep up. Eddes placed his hand on the hilt of the long sword at his waist and entered the hallway.
As soon as he stepped into the house, the smell of blood shocked Edus: the worst seemed to have happened......
"Be vigilant, soldiers. The Corruptor may still be here...... Keep your weapons in your hands!"
With the exception of Quill, who was still holding the axe, all the guards clenched their swords.
Slowly pushing open the door of the hall, the terrible situation in front of him and the extremely strong smell of blood made Edus feel extremely nauseous, and he almost vomited his dinnerβa severed arm, a large pool of blood, and a mutilated body.
One soldier was the first to take the impact, and he crouched to the side, leaning against the wall and vomiting.
Damn it...... Eders resisted the vomiting sensation and walked into the hall.
"This ...... It's ......" A soldier with a thin voice trembled: "Nalo who has become a corruptor...... Do you?"
Edus, who didn't know the answer to the ...... himself, didn't answer the question, he just suppressed his sense of smell and kept trying to show the composure that he should have as a captain: you have to set an example for your teammates, and you can't show cowardice. If the captains are all on the verge of escaping, how can you expect the team members to follow you forward?
"Here...... It makes people feel very uncomfortable. One of the team members took a step back: "Are we ...... What should I report or not?"
"Report to whom?" Eddes glared at him, "I order you to stay here, soldier." It's just corpses, nothing to fear. β
But it does make me feel horrible...... Eders forced himself to look directly at the fragments of the corpse on the ground: "Quill, count how many heads there are on the ground. β
Still calm, Quill looked around: "Four, my lord." There is no Nalo's. β
"Did Nalo really do it......" Eders patted the two soldiers beside him, "You two, come with me to this corridor." There's a bedroom or something like that, let's investigate - Quill, you take the three of you to examine the bodies and see if there's anything suspicious. β
However, the area where the smell of blood was not strong was quickly investigated, and Eddes had to walk back to the hall.
Damn, there is no second floor...... The captain lamented in his heart.
"Put away your weapons, guys. Edus put his sword back into its scabbard, "Nag wasn't hiding in any corner. β
Noticing that a soldier was not in the hall, Eders was surprised: "Why is there one person missing?"
"He couldn't stand the smell of blood, so I told him to look out the door. Quill glanced at Edus, "Sir...... You come and see this. β
"What's wrong?" Eddes looked at Quill's fingers, his scalp tingling, "A pile of abdominal corpses scattered all over the ground with guts and intestines. β
"Didn't you notice anything out of the ordinary? Let's take a look at this. Quill then pointed to the other body of the upper body: "You look carefully at the junction of the arms and cervical vertebrae. β
After forcing himself to look closely, Eders broke out in a cold sweat: "This wound ......"
"Yes, that's right. Quill concluded: "Both arms and heads were torn off...... It is impossible for an ordinary Eborn to do such a thing. β
"I didn't expect you to look so closely. Eddes said incredulously, "But if the Corruptor is so powerful...... How did Lord Mace hold on to his sword so that he wasn't assassinated?"
Quill shook his head, "I don't know...... But if you look at it in reverse, you can see something. β
After carefully looking at the pile of organs and abdominal corpses again, he still only felt disgusted: "I only see that this murderer is extremely cruel......"
"Dragon God bless!" a soldier beside him turned pale and gasped.
"Looks like someone saw it. Quill's expression was very solemn: "This corpse ...... Eaten by something. β
