Volume 1 - The Leaf in the Wind and the Wanderer Chapter 19 - The Family Has Debts and Romances
After leaving Defense Command, Samuel went to the Traveler's Camp, where the laborers had already been housed by Sher, and many of the passengers who were going to Shadowsteel were staying there, including the Origin Fire Scholar. The Anjou family had already left the airport.
Toft is still arguing with the labor agency and has not yet returned, and Samuel is happy to return to Nurenta to find his adoptive father Safron, who is eager to ask his adoptive father the truth about the creatures of the void.
It was just past noon, and Samuel estimated that his adoptive father was still working at the tavern, so Samuel chose to go to the Pig and Rose Tavern. And not where he and his adoptive father lived.
Samuel grew up in Nurenta, but rarely returned to Gureg since he was admitted to the National University of Defense in Carlin. It has been more than ten years since he left his hometown, and even his nationality has been changed to a Carlin nationality by Safron who took advantage of the loophole in his policy. However, these ten years were the most transformative years in the Nulent Tower, with the influx of immigrants expanding the area of the city several times, the wilderness of memory being replaced by busy streets, and the flocks of birds that appeared in the air from time to time became floating fleets coming and going. It's been three years since Samuel last went home, and now he's standing on the streets of Nurem Tower again, and he's almost lost again.
After asking for directions several times in a row, he finally found the Pig and Rose Tavern in his memory. Samuel's adoptive father ran many taverns in his lifetime, all of which were called "Pigs and Roses", most of which closed down due to poor management, and the only remaining tavern was located near Beer Square, which was on the edge of the Nulent Tower when it opened more than a decade ago. Over the past decade, the rapid expansion of the Nurem Tower has transformed the former suburbs into a new city center, and the desolate path in front of the tavern has become a bustling avenue.
But there was no one in the Pig and Rose Tavern in the downtown area. The doors and windows of the tavern were locked, and there were seals, which were still half-new, with the words "seizure", "District Court of the South City of Nulenta", "Enforcement", etc. Samuel was taken aback, wondering if his adoptive father had done something to kill and set fires, and justice was finally belated.
"Safron didn't do anything heinous, that is, he didn't pay child support for his illegitimate child, he was sued in court, and he lost the lawsuit. In the end, he couldn't afford to pay the alimony, so the tavern was forced to be auctioned off by the court, and finally he barely paid the alimony. The vendor who took out kebabs at the tavern offered to answer Samuel's questions.
Samuel squinted at the vendor before remembering that this was the former chef of the Pig and Rose Tavern, Bellat.
"This tavern is worth at least one or two million gold dollars, and asking for a million imperial gold dollars, isn't this bastard too open-mouthed?", Samuel felt very strange.
Even in Kalenta, middle-class children are born to adulthood and cost between a dozen and hundreds of thousands of thousands of dollars. Compared to Kalenta, the cost of raising Gureg in the city is generally much lower, and asking for millions in child support is too greedy.
The peddler shrugged:
"In fact, the standard of alimony given by the court is really not high, but Safron gave birth to a total of 8 illegitimate children with 5 women. ”
Samuel was speechless. During the time when he was not at home, his adoptive father was so romantic and prolific, and finally succeeded in losing all his property. So what is Safron doing now? Hiding at home and retiring?
"He doesn't seem to be in Nuremtower now, as if he's gone somewhere to collect his debts," replied the peddler, "and you don't have a rare trip back to Nulenta, so why don't you go home and see it?"
Of course, there was a key, and Samuel had brought it with him before setting off from Kalenta.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The loud explosion from the two-story building startled the surrounding residents, who put down their work to see what was going on, and when they saw Samuel staggered up from the ground, they scattered with an "oh" - it was not surprising that what happened to the adoptive father and son.
Suffron didn't know when he had replaced the lock cylinder on the door, so when Samuel tried to open it with his old key, he succeeded in triggering the vigilance spell on the door, causing the explosion that had just occurred, and although the explosion was so loud that it alarmed all the neighbors, the door made of pure gold was still standing there without any damage. But it didn't matter if the door could be opened or not, the wall next to it was already exploding and collapsing. Samuel walked into his house through a large hole in the wall, threw his coat, which had been almost blown to rags, onto the couch, and walked to his adoptive father's bedroom. Luckily, the bedroom door was not locked.
A thin layer of dust had accumulated on the desk in the bedroom, and it seemed that it had been a few days since Saffron was gone. There was a pile of books on the table, and a black crystal. Samuel felt that the black crystal was familiar, and after looking at it for a while, he remembered that it was the strange crystal that the man with the felt hat had taken out of his pocket in that strange dream.
With a thought, a faint black smoke came out of his fingertips, and then he poured the black smoke into the crystal. The crystal immediately began to heat up, then turned into a thick cloud of black smoke. He then touched the cloud of black smoke with his hand, which immediately surrounded his hand like a living thing, and then burrowed into his body.
Samuel let out a low roar, and a large amount of black smoke came out of his body, covering his entire body. A few seconds later, he was the one-eyed tentacle monster again. After absorbing the black smoke, he grew in size again, and the tentacle that had just grown grew longer and thicker, and was now about to reach the same size as the other tentacles. In addition, he can also feel that his strength, physique, mental strength and other qualities have been significantly improved. This strange crystal looked like a condensed void energy, and although Samuel hadn't fully figured out what kind of energy it was, the instinct of the void creature told him that it would be good for him to absorb it.
As he was so big that he could hit the ceiling with a slight look up, he was very uncomfortable with the small bedroom, so he quickly reverted back to his human form.
Only then did he find that there was a sticky note scattered on the table, and the two thick tentacles carefully picked up the sticky note, and when he saw it, a few words were scribbled on the new sign:
"The Void Crystal on the table is for you, I'm going to ask for a debt, and we'll talk when I get back. ”
I can understand your eagerness to find assets to make a comeback after losing your last bit of belongings in order to pay off your romantic debts, but what debt is more important than this?! Your cute adopted son has seven tentacles!!
Samuel suddenly felt the urge to tear the note to shreds, but years of upbringing stopped him. He flipped the note to the back, and sure enough, there were still words on it:
"Why don't you scrape together some money to help me redeem the tavern?"
Samuel took a deep breath and suppressed his anger, and after five seconds, he finally gave up the useless effort and tore the note to shreds.
Enraged, Samuel then rummaged through the room, and found that his adoptive father had not left any information for him except for the sticky note. Sweating profusely, he kicked away a chair that stood in his way, then lay down on the bed, wondering where his adoptive father had probably gone to collect his debts, and finally gave up - Suffron had traveled all over the world all his life, and who knows where he was now.
Suddenly, he felt something move in the pocket of his clothes, and he reached out and pulled out the strange black "frog" that caused him to wake up, whose limbs flicked and showed signs of waking up. Samuel was overjoyed, put the "frog" on his desk, and leaned his head to stare at the strange creature. After a long time of movement, the frog finally opened its eyes, and the first thing he saw was Samuel's head. It was stunned, and actually asked in a human voice:
"Who are you?"
Seeing that the culprit actually asked such a question, Samuel said angrily:
"Almost a month ago, you seemed to want to make me your pet through a soul contract?"
The frog was stunned for a moment, and then remembered what had happened before. Immediately jumped backwards like an electric shock, and shivered against the wall:
"I'm not!"
"I didn't!"
"I don't know anything!"
