Section C, Chapter 2: Crossbow (Anusen)
Hearing the mournful scream of the horse and the heavy fall, Anusen jerked on the reins on his left. The mount turned to the left and ran back to the mad dog.
"Damn, my uncle!" Ceresya clutched her elbows and bared her teeth and shouted, "I almost broke my bones!"
"Can you get up?" said Anusen hurriedly jumped off his horse and tried to pick up Seresa, "It's no joke to fall off a running horse. I'll check your injuriesβ"
"Alright, leave me alone!" "Maddog staggered to his feet, slumped on the ground, and shouted angrily, "Go to the bushes and find that bastard who shoots arrows - do you see anything in my horse's ass?! I'm going to stick that arrow into his asshole in a moment, so that he can be refreshed!"
Releasing the mad dog that looked like it wanted to bite because of the pain, Anusen looked down at the poor horse that had stopped twitching: fortunately it died soon and did not have to suffer too much. Otherwise, he will use his sword to help it free.
"What's still in the ink?" Seresa exclaimed impatiently, "the horse's carcass won't run away!"
"Right now!" Anusen frowned, looking at the bushes that hadn't shaken at all since then. Drawing his sword, he hurried into it.
The blades of grass in the bushes were soft and fluffy, and it was not at all as laborious as Anusen had thought. Staring down at the ground, which was too tall for the shrubs to see, the knight searched the surroundings for something suspicious.
The man probably fled after shooting the arrow...... Anusen muttered to himself: it would have been impossible to catch him.
He nearly tripped over something hard due to his speed. Scrambling to steaten his balance, the knight leaned over to look at his feet.
The lush bushes blocked his view, and he had to crouch down and reach out to touch the thing.
Hardwood to the touch...... Startled, Anusen picked it up and brought it close to him: a compound two-handed heavy wooden crossbow.
There is already an arrow wound above the crossbow. It seems that the user hastily dropped the weapon before he could fire a second arrow.
"Hey, did you find anything?" the mad dog yelled impatiently.
"The man has already run away!" Looking around again, the knight replied loudly, "But I found a crossbow!"
"A fucking crossbow?" Selesa exclaimed angrily, "Alright, come back quickly! β
Turning to walk out of the bushes, Anusen saw that the mad dog was removing the luggage from the dead horse's back one by one.
"Damn, a horse died somehow......" Ceresa muttered constantly, "That's good! β
"Don't you think it's strange?" Anusen raised the crossbow in his hand, "What's the point of him shooting our horse?"
"Who the fuck knows about this?" Seresa straightened up slightly, his face still slightly contorted with pain, "Maybe he wasn't aiming at the horse's ass at all, but at me - it was just missed! If you meet a rich man, give him such a shot!"
"You mean robbers? This is a caravan avenue, how can there be robbery. β
"Oh my God, there are no robbers on the Caravan Avenue?!You're thinking so much!" Cereya scoffed, "Listen, knight - we shouldn't have been talking about how much money we have just now! The robber will definitely do it when he hears that we have such a large sum of money?! Let me restore his thinking to you: I'll shoot one person first, and then deal with another!"
"And then, because of the missed shot, he dropped his crossbow and fled?" Anusen frowned, "Not convincing at all. β
"If you think about it, that kind of crossbow is a heavy crossbow, and it's deadly. It's normal to leave it behind for the sake of escape. The mad dog impatiently unloaded another bag of luggage: "Damn, come and help me tie these bags to your horse! β
Looking at the caravan carriages speeding from the avenue ahead, the knight led his horse to the side of the road to make way for them.
"If there is only one robber, how can he attack us?" Anusen suddenly thought of this question that puzzled him: "The average robber would not easily do it when he sees someone with a weapon. What's more, we're still two people. β
"Don't take common sense to think of these people who lick blood on the tip of their knives and don't know if they will die one day; Cereya's eyes narrowed: "I've done dirty work for many years since I was a child, and I'm all too familiar with this. And...... Think about how much money we have? about four hundred Eurasian gold coins -- one and a half million gold coins. So much money is enough for a robber or even an ordinary person to put down their sanity and fight desperately. β
"You have a point. Anusen admitted: "It sounds like you've done a lot of this." β
"I haven't done it. Mad Dog flatly denied: "I'm too lazy to do this kind of robbery." β
"Alright, let's pack our bags. Annun picked up a package from the ground and began to tie it to his horse. Looking at the mad dog hanging half of his body and clutching his elbows, the knight couldn't help but feel worried: "Does it really matter when you fall?"
"Yo, our Mr. Knight is starting to care about the mad dog again?" said the mad dog with a vomiting motion, and then said with a hippie smile, "Come on, my body is not so loose that I can't stand up if I am thrown - but the horse has not increased its speed too fast at that time." Otherwise, it's enough for me to drink a pot. β
It took a long time to secure Ceresya's luggage on the horse. Looking at the dead horse, Anusen sighed: "The horse can't be ridden, now I have to walk to Jiuquan Town with my legs...... When the time comes, you will have to buy another horse, which will cost you a lot of money. β
"It's a shame indeed. Mad Dog stared at the miserable horse: "Originally, selling horse meat alone could make up for a lot of losses. But for now, I can only leave it here...... We simply returned to the port of Dilna and bought horses there. β
"Have you forgotten the horse dealers we saw on the streets, the horses sold in the port are so expensive!" Anusen vetoed the mad dog's proposal, "It's not far from Jiuquan Town, so let's go on our way." β
"Cut! Mad Dog snorted and wanted to say something more. However, he swallowed back his words and drew his sword abruptly.
Sensing the mad dog's anomaly, Anusen also looked around vigilantly, picking up his sword and shield.
The bushes on both sides of the road trembled slightly. Subsequently, several men armed with different weapons stood up one after another. Out of the grass, they slowly approached the two of them.
