Section B, Chapter 8: Dr. Ennis (Mace)
As the sword pulled out of his chest, Mace's limp body was kicked over by Michiro and fell to the oak table.
Turning over with difficulty, Mace struggled to grip the blade of the sword with both hands.
The sharp sword cut deep into the palm, and the blood flowed incessantly. And the penetrating wound from the massive blood loss in his chest also made his eyes black.
However, I don't know if it was because of the blood loss that I was starting to break away or because the enemy's strength was amazing, and the tip of the sword approached the eye socket at a rapid speed.
After trying to lean back and distance himself, he finally put his back against his desk.
The eyes glowing with a cold blue glow were lifeless, attracted by some kind of magic, and Mace couldn't stop staring at themβit made him feel like his mind was slowly freezing.
"Guards!" Mace yelled with all his might, "There are assassins!"
Listening to the sound of hurried footsteps, Mace, who was about to lose his hold, felt a wave of dizziness.
The face in front of him, which was constantly ossifying and full of signs of corruption, slowly opened its mouth, and a white cold air quickly seeped out. Mace shuddered: the air around him seemed to be unbearably cold because of it.
The cold made his fingers stiffen rapidly, and the blood flowing from his palms was cold. Mace shivered, and he felt himself suffering from a rapid hypothermia.
However, just as Mace was about to lose his hand, the door slammed open. Several guards armed with swords and shields rushed into the house, knocking Michiro to the ground with their shields.
At that moment, Mace let go of his hands and collapsed to the ground.
Cold...... It's cold...... Mace curled up, feeling his heart beat more slowly and his teeth clashing. In his blurred vision, he saw that his clothes were constantly freezing.
When he woke up again, he was in his bedroom, lying on his bed. Candles were lit and it was dark.
Looking at his bandaged hands, Mace tried to stand up. However, the pain in his palms and chest caused him to clench his teeth and lie back on the bed.
Water...... Mace's lips were dry, and he noticed a jug on a table, but his attempt to get up again failed.
Feeling the wound seem to be cracking, Mace couldn't help but grit his teeth.
The longer I stay awake, the more thirsty I get. Realizing that he had to ask for help, Mace shouted helplessly, "Elena, I need your help." β
There was a sound of footsteps that didn't belong to Elena. The door opened, and Dr. Ennis walked in slowly: "Lady Elena has gone to inspect the reinforcement of the city wall on your behalf, and she has not yet returned. β
"This ......" Mace was about to get up again, but Ennis pushed back to the bed, "if you move again, the wound will open againβand not only your chest, but also your immortal palm...... I was really surprised when I applied them herbs. You grabbed the blade so hard, but you didn't hurt your bones. β
Ennis pushed too hard, and if the wound really cracked, it was because of this ...... Mace seemed to hear the sound of a crack in the wound: this guy is obviously a doctor, and he always doesn't take it seriously.
Ennis Picano, who was a year older than Mays, had known Mace since childhood β and they had always sneaked out of town together to pick herbs in the mountains. Mace was scolded by his father for this.
"So I'm lucky," Mace smiled bitterly, "Enis, help me get the jug...... I'm so thirsty. β
"Well, here you goβhave a drink, I guess you have a lot of questions. Ennis helped Mace lift up slightly and handed him the jug.
Greedily drinking the liquid from the jug, Mace choked on a mouthful of water and coughed violently. Then this caused the wound to be pulled and burned.
"Gotta get it, you can choke on it. Ennis snatched the jug and put it back on the table: "It's not wine, what's the hurry." β
Pressing the bandage on his abdomen, Mace, who frowned, still did not recover from the pain caused by drinking water.
"Shall I bring you something to eat? β
"Forget it, I'm not hungry. Mace still felt cold: "Why is it so cold?"
The fireplace was blazing, and Mace could clearly feel that the room temperature was absolutely warm - but he just felt cold, and he felt as if his organs were frozen in the cold.
"The Corruptor's Chill Inflicts ...... Maester Nadia can probably give you a very good explanation. Ennis was silent for a moment: "The situation is terrible now...... Actually, the news that Ellens' brought to you yesterday was just as bad. But it's better to let him report it in person later. β
"That's ......," Mace frowned.
"Lie down first, sitting, isn't good for your injuries. Ennis also frowned in the same way as Mace.
Mace shook his head in refusal: "What time is it?"
"I'll take a look at ......" Ennis took out his pocket watch and meowed, "Around a quarter past five in the evening." β
"Great, I've only fainted for five hours......" Mace reassured: in this way, there is not much delay......
"Wait a minute, you seem to have misunderstood something, Mistress Mace?" Ennis said slowly, "Also, if people are unconscious during the day and wake up at night, they will probably think that they have only been in a coma for a few hours. β
"Then I'm ......," Mace looked at Ennis in disbelief.
"Oh, don't be too nervous. You were in a coma yesterday, and you didn't miss much. Ennis stood up, "I'm afraid you're still thinking about Captain Edus's report, and what happened to the Corruptor - this is what Captain Eders will tell you." You stay here honestly and sleep for a while. I'll call him. β
"Okay, I'm sorry for you......" shook his palm slightly, feeling the pain in his palm. Mace stopped Ennis before he left, "Enis, how long will it take for my injury to heal?"
"Anyway, I believe in my herbs - the wound on the palm of my hand is about a week, and the one in my abdomen is not for three weeks. Ennis looked back: "Around nine o'clock in the evening, I'll come back and change your bandages...... I am proud to mention that the piercing wound on your chest has been replaced by someone else, and you don't even want to treat it. β
"And how long will it take me to get out of bed?" Mace frowned, "Lying in bed all the time isn't like what a lord should do." β
"It's up to you, who never follow the doctor's advice, to get out of bed or not, so I won't give substantive advice. Ennis snorted, "But you'd better stay in bed for a few more days...... These wounds are too deep for me to guarantee that they won't leave unsightly scars. β
"Scars don't matter. Mace remembered his father, who always showed off his scars: "Scars are a man's medal." β
"yes, yes...... Provided that he gets them on the battlefield. Ennis gave him a blank look: "But what about you? You'd better pray that you don't leave the medal. β
"Okay. Mace frowned again at pain: "Damn it...... The sword that pierced through my chest was a two-inch point. β
"Frowning less will make you look younger. Ennis playfully frowned, "It's not a good habit to frown all the time...... Besides, after this incident, you fool should have considered my advice countless times, right? Like many lords in the outside world. β
"Come on, that set of etiquette rules from the outside world doesn't apply to the Ice Children of Eternal Winter. Mace despised the aristocratic etiquette and red tape of those warm places: "Then again, if you talk to the lord like this outside, you don't know how many times you will die." β
"Well, I have to thank you for not killing. The doctor laughed, "It's just, seriously - you should get a personal bodyguard, it's an extraordinary time." Come to think of it, why did the Corruptor assassinate you? Isn't it because you're important as the Lord of Winterfell and the Guardian of the Children of Ice?"
"I'll make a note of it and think about it. Mace admits he has a point.
"Alright, I'm not going to talk nonsense with you - we'll meet again at nine o'clock in the evening. β
Ennis closed the door, and the footsteps faded away.
