Chapter XXVII
Crete and Marreno, with the men of the Mutual Aid Society, surrounded the Baron's Palace from several directions. They shot rockets and Molotov cocktails into the baron's castle, making a lot of noise and hilarious. The baron's guards did not know that this was just a feint, and still divided their men to watch the walls on all sides. The offensive pressure on Wang Xiaofeng's front has been reduced a lot.
Crete, with Sova's team, was in charge of the western wall, which had a small wooden tower with a sentry inside, and on the west side of the main castle building, soldiers hid behind the battlements and shot arrows downward.
The sentry was the most threatening, he was a good shooter, and with the towers lower than the roofs and closer to the outer walls, he shot the most accurate arrows. It didn't take long for three of the militiamen to be shot and wounded. One was shot in the shoulder, one in the thigh, and one in the stomach and was seriously injured. The rest of the people were a little cowering and didn't dare to step forward.
The militia of the Mutual Aid Society were discouraged. As soon as he came out, he sacrificed the vice president, and when he reached the wall, he didn't destroy a single enemy, but he wounded three more.
Crete saw the change in their mood and was very anxious. His limited military knowledge taught him that morale was very important for such a hastily organized team. If the mood of these militias cannot be adjusted, this team may be ineffective if it suffers some damage.
He gathered the six people in his group who could still fight, and said: "Everyone must feel very aggrieved, today it has been our comrades who are injured and sacrificed. You must want to teach the enemy a lesson, right?"
"That's for sure!" the crowd replied.
"I've got a way to get rid of that guy on top of the tower. But all of them have to have the courage to work together!"
"Okay, Mr. Crete, what do you say, and we'll do it! If you don't breathe like this, we're going to suffocate to death!" said one of the militiamen.
Crete asked a few people to get some window lids from nearby homes. In teams of two, one person is responsible for lifting the plank to block the arrow, and the other is responsible for shooting upwards. He had three groups of people approaching from three directions to attract the attention of the archers.
Crete looked at the enemy who was constantly shooting arrows upstairs, and suddenly felt a little frightened in his heart, but the militia were already exposed to the enemy's firing range, although there were planks to block the vital points, but there were still parts of the legs and feet exposed. After a while, someone was hit by an arrow in the calf, but this time they still gritted their teeth and persevered.
Can't hesitate!
Crete used a trick to see the gap between the enemy's arrows and rushed to the corner of the wall as fast as he could. Several archers on the roof saw him in action and shot arrows at him, but Crete ran an S-shape to make it as difficult as possible for the enemy to aim. He ran under the wall, threw himself to the ground, dodged an arrow from overhead, rolled overhead, and finally leaned against the wall.
This is a dead end, and enemy arrows can't shoot it. He felt his way along the façade to the location of the tower. Getting closer, he pulled out the only hedron grenade he had, activated it, and threw it over the wall.
Rumble!
Crete did not hit the foot of the tower, and after the explosion, the tower shook slightly, but did not fall.
However, the archer above was frightened by this movement, and the smoke from the explosion was quite terrifying, and he did not know how many Cretan methods there were, but he knew that if this thing was thrown upstairs, he would be finished. He threw his bow and crawled down, but this gave the militiamen the opportunity to concentrate their fire while the enemy was out of cover, and finally an arrow landed on the archer's back and knocked him down. Several of the militiamen cheered and retreated, and two of the shieldmen, covering the crossbowmen's retreat to safety, rushed up and drove Cretra back.
"Mr. Crete, you are so heroic!"
"I can't do it without you. Crete was shocked, but laughed happily, "Then it's easy! The people on the roof, as long as they keep their distance, are not much of a threat." Don't be in a hurry, just hold them back!"
Sure enough, the guards on the roof were obviously not masters, and the two sides shot at each other from a long distance for a long time, and they didn't even rub off half of the skin. Much better than when it was just suppressed by the tower.
Crete was not in a hurry, his combat mission was to drag these people and let them not go to the front to cause trouble. It wasn't that he didn't have the idea of getting closer and destroying one or two more enemies, but looking at the mutual aid militia around him who insisted on fighting despite being wounded, he couldn't bear to do that again. And if he is too reckless, if he attracts a fighter who can fight, he will definitely not be able to withstand these people.
Crete suppressed his careful thoughts, devoted all his energies to commanding the battle, sent men back the wounded, and mobilized a few men from another group to stabilize the front.
After a while, he heard footsteps behind him, and to his surprise, it was Doris and Dominic.
Doris's delicate little face was full of tears, and her eyes were already swollen from crying. As she walked, she sniffled and seemed to be crying heartbreakingly.
"No one can stop Doris, this little girl. She must come here, and the people of the women's association are not at ease. So let me come along. Dominic walked behind her with a worried expression, his sword drawn in his hand, and looked around in case anything hurt the girl again.
Doris walked up to Crete, bowed to him, and said in a hoarse voice, "Mr. Crete, thank you for avenging my brother." β
"I'm sorry, I couldn't save him in time, that traitor appeared too suddenly. Crete whispered.
Doris shook her head vigorously and said, "Mr. Crete, it's not your fault, it's all Baron O'Falel's sin!"
Although Crete sympathized with the girl, he did not waste his mind on communication, and he asked, "But why did you come here?"
Doris stood for a moment at several castles that were blazing with fire and rumbling shelling, then turned to Crete and said in a resolute voice: "I, I want to join the real battle. I want to kill the baron's people with my own hands. β
"No, I can't. Crete flatly refused.
"Why?" she said, pointing to the militiamen who were still shooting arrows, "I want to fight like them!"
Crete said: "The first thing to fight is to listen to the command. Hatred may be the motivation for us to fight, but we are not fighting here to kill for revenge. β
"I don't understand!" Doris burst into her eyes again.
"You'll understand later. Crete waved her hand gently, and the lethargy technique made Doris slowly soften, and he grabbed Doris and handed her to Dominic, "There are many things to do tonight, let her sleep well." β
