Chapter Ninety-Six: The False City
Charles had thought that it would take them a lot of effort to climb over the huge wall, but after only a little searching, they saw a number of small doors standing at the bottom of the wall, as if the wall was not used to defend against humans.
With a gentle wave of Charles's hand, the group slowly walked into the fortress-like island.
As soon as he walked through the tunnel of the thick walled city, Charles was stunned by the scene in front of him.
If he hadn't been at sea just now, he would have thought he was back on the surface.
Inside the walls, there are rows of neatly arranged modern buildings, in addition to ordinary high-rise buildings, the lower end of the building has fast food restaurants, mobile phone stores, clothing stores, everything.
It's a city, a modern city with no people.
Time has not left a mark on these buildings, everything here seems so clean and tidy, there is not even a trace of dust on the ground.
Under normal circumstances, this would be absolutely impossible. The ship outside had only been parked for two months and was covered in dust, and the city, God knows how many years it had been built, there was no way it was so new.
"Dude, do you think this style of architecture is familiar," Richard looked at as he approached a supermarket, leaning his face against the clear glass.
"Foundation. Charles thought of the ruins of the island of 1002. If you look at the distribution structure, if the ruins were in good condition, they would be what they are now.
The Foundation is from the surface, and there is a chance that the exit will be in the city.
This kind of city surprised even Charles, not to mention the crew of the Narwhal, whose mouths hadn't been closed since they came in.
Everyone stared at the strange building in the darkness in amazement, and the hands holding the weapons were sometimes clenched and sometimes relaxed.
Charles smashed the doorknob of a supermarket with his hand, pushed it open and walked in.
The furnishings inside are almost the same as those of Wal-Mart supermarkets, but compared to the lively supermarkets, they are empty and a little weird.
"Mr. Charles, is this the computer you said can play animations?" asked Lily curiously, jumping onto the cash register.
Charles didn't reply, and walked over briskly to check the cash register behind the cabinet.
He soon discovered that there was something wrong with this thing, although it looked very much like a supermarket cash register, but there was no data cable link underneath this thing.
"Buzz~!" the fast-spinning chainsaw poked out of Charles's prosthetic leg and cut straight towards the cash register.
Soon the machine was cut open by Charles, who found that there were no computer chips in it, and that it was just a simple empty shell.
"What do you think?" Charles' gaze swept towards the cash registers at the other exits, which, if he had guessed correctly, should be just as ornamental as the ones in his hand.
"You ask me, who do I ask? Who is so bored, bored to get a fake supermarket out. Richard controlled the prosthetic leg and grabbed the place where the money was placed and pulled hard.
All sorts of banknotes and coins they'd never seen before popped out of it.
Charles picked up one with his right hand and found that although the banknote looked like currency, the texture was very rough. The money is just as fake as the machine.
Charles suddenly thought of something, rushed directly into the supermarket, quickly checked all kinds of goods, and sure enough, as he expected, whether it was daily utensils or various clothes, they were only very similar in appearance, but they were not really usable.
And everything that should have been written on it was a blurry and twisted mess.
"How do I feel like I'm running into a big guy's 1:1 supermarket figure? Could it be the "god" in the water? I didn't expect the "god" to be quite homely. ”
Hearing Richard's speculation, Charles shook his head, "No, if you think about the footprints on the ship, there are creatures in this place, and these things may have been made by those things." ”
"Then why did they build a fake supermarket?
Charles put down the things in his hand, looked out of the glass door, and muttered to himself, "I'm afraid it's more than just a supermarket ......."
Finally, under the leadership of Charles, everyone rushed into those magnificent high-rise buildings.
Looking at the furnishings inside that are exactly the same as reality, Charles seems to have returned to the modern era again, and there is even an elevator in the building.
But a little inspection will find that this elevator is also fake, with a prosthetic leg to cut the elevator outer door, the inside is solid, there is not even an elevator shaft.
Charles led everyone up the stairs to the second floor.
"Everybody went to the room to look for clues. Anything you find with text or pictures and leave it to me right away. Gather every half an hour, and shoot as soon as you encounter danger. ”
Charles was with the doctors, and they walked into what looked like an office room and began rummaging through the cabinets.
Five minutes later, he walked out disappointed and headed for another room next door. Seeing the crew members coming in and out of the room, Charles knew they definitely didn't have any clues.
After emptying another house, a somewhat impatient Charles prepares to leave with the crew.
But as soon as he stood up, he half-crouched down with his head in his hands, and with a pained expression on his face, the murmur sounded again, much louder than before.
With his hands over his head, he stumbled towards the next room, where the doctor was.
Just two steps away, Charles saw a humanoid flesh monster covered in deformed limbs approaching him.
The monster saw Charles's appearance, and walked up to him with bloody legs, supporting him with his limbs
Glancing at the flesh and blood robe on the monster's body, Charles said to it in pain: "Doctor, something is wrong, my hallucinations have started again, is there any medicine to help me suppress it?"
The monster's long, deformed lips opened as if to say something, and then a wriggling white mass of flesh was handed over from within the flesh robe.
Charles took it with his hand and put it in his mouth and bit it, and the pungent smell of blood instantly exploded in his mouth, and Charles swallowed the flesh and blood with nausea.
Just then, he saw a figure walk in through the doorway, it was none other than his ship's doctor.
There was a "snap", and the flask in the hand of the frightened doctor suddenly fell to the ground.
"Oh my god!!Charles, what the hell are you eating—wait! What the hell is that guy standing next to you!!"
Charles looked up in shock, his eyes meeting the monster's crossed pupils.
The chainsaw of Charles' prosthetic leg poked out in an instant and began to spin rapidly.
Just as he was about to raise his hand and slash at the monster next to him, a strong feeling of dizziness came through his brain.
The vertigo quickly took away Charles' strength and will.
The last scene he saw when he fell to the ground was the six-fingered deformed long-scaled foot that matched the footprints on the ship.
