Chapter Seventy-Three: Demon Invasion!
In the Whispering Forest, peaceful and beautiful days are always so similar.
The scent of flowers, the melodious song of birds, the vibrant wild creatures and the good-natured spirits make up this beautiful picture dyed in emerald green.
The dappled light and shadow from the trees made Eric Shirahoshi, biting the stem of the cuckoo flower, look leisurely and contented. As a ranger guarding the borders of the Whispering Forest, Eric felt that only this quiet and leisurely life could reflect the elegance and grace of the elven civilization. Even the dragons, who were the origins of Garlandia's civilization, probably didn't enjoy life as well as the elves like them.
The cranky new Ranger Captain didn't take long to be complacent, and the newcomer in the squad who had just been assigned abruptly interrupted his idle moments.
"Captain! Oh no! Big deal!"
The frizzy young elf made Eric frown, as a trainee ranger, this kid's enthusiasm was commendable, but this shouting appearance was really ungraceful. It is a bad thing to do with the friendly creatures of the forest, and the good impression that the land is managed gracefully by the people.
"Shhh......hhh ”
The young Arret looked at the slightly wilted flowers in the captain's hand, and his tender face suddenly became very aggrieved, "Captain, it's obvious that you have picked it for too long, so you don't blame me!"
Eric glared hard, but not enough to deter his youngest team. Of course he knew why the flowers withered, but how could you be so unstylish as an elf!?
"What the hell did you just scream about?" the slightly impatient Captain Ranger finally got the conversation going.
"Ah~~~!I just forgot!" Arrett grabbed her pale blonde hair with both hands in shock, as if shrouded in some indescribable shadow of fear.
"What the hell is your name!?" Eric stared at the newcomer and gave the newcomer a neat brain crash, in exchange for a crisp cry of pain, this kid just lacks training.
"Great crisis! Great crisis! Captain~~!" Arrett waved his hands exaggeratedly, as if some kind of invisible apocalypse was approaching the entire forest.
"What the hell is going on? Is there a death fever outbreak in the jungle?" Eric felt that the young man was a little unreliable, but he still believed that the boy would not make a fuss about lying or misreporting something.
"It's the demons!" The young ranger gestured with his hands and feet, but he couldn't even figure out how to imitate the characteristics of those strange-looking races, "It's the demon invasion, captain!!"
"What are you talking about!?" said Eric, who was half-lying on the trunk of the tree, and sat up, doubting what he had heard, but believing that no one in the whole forest would dare to joke on the subject.
"A group of demons have appeared outside the forest, captain!"
At this moment, Eric felt that the crying young face in front of him was comparable to those elders who were worried about the country and the people.
"You lead the way!" Captain Ranger took the longbow directly behind him, and walked in front of the trainee Ranger in three or two steps, "By the way, call Al!
......
Eric hadn't closed his eyes properly in two days, although the young Arret beside him had been very reliable all this time. But the Ranger Captain was still unwilling to put such a heavy burden on such a pure young man, and if it weren't for the fact that Arrett was not skilled in jungle speeding, Eric would have ordered him to go to the rear as the captain to report the news.
Let's hope there won't be any accidents on Arr's Road!
The only good news is that this group of demons has never tried to enter the forest until now, and I don't know if they are brewing some terrible conspiracy if they remain still!
"Captain, I reconnoitred just now, and they're still cooking on a fire. It's not some evil spell......" Arret, who had gone out to investigate, returned to the captain's side lightly.
"Do you see clearly?"
"Of course, Captain. I also saw them for lunch with a few rabbits and some fish. As a vegetarian-oriented elf, Arret really didn't understand what was so good about those fishy fish.
"You haven't mastered the Eagle Eye technique, how can you see it so clearly?" Eric was a little curious that the apprentice had actually spotted the enemy's recipe.
"I ran to about thirty yards from them...... Ouch!"
Eric unceremoniously used the hard unripe green fruit to deliver a standard "silent blow" to the trainee ranger.
"Captain, why are you beating me?" the young ranger grumbled aggrievedly.
"You kid is crazy!?Thirty yards!?They can nail you through with a throwing gun with a rabbit! I want you to try to scout the enemy, not to try to send you to death or become a prisoner!!"
"But didn't they try to attack me? They sent men who were not armed and seemed to want to communicate with me. Captain, maybe these demons aren't as evil as people say they are?"
"The demons are extremely cunning! How do you know that he is not secretly doing evil!?" Eric clearly remembered the extremely tragic battles in the stories that the elders told him, if it weren't for the strong and bloodthirsty demons in the stories who were not good at making weapons and equipment, maybe the elves in the Whispering Forest would have lost this peaceful home hundreds of years ago.
"Don't let your guard down because they're confusing you!" Captain Ranger told his juniors very cautiously, "remember what I said, as soon as they show any sign of attack, you should immediately run into the depths of the forest!
"What about you, Captain?" asked Arret, a little innocently.
"I'm here to hold them back and buy you time. At this moment, Eric's expression reminded the trainee ranger of the extremely serious elders in the memorial, which made him subconsciously feel that the captain was not joking with him.
"Captain, they are such a small number of people, they must not dare to enter the forest. The forest is a training ground for our rangers!" Arrett reassured optimistically.
"Remember the Whispering Death?" said Eric, with a solemn expression, "It's been five hundred years, and the former battlefield hasn't been restored to the original appearance of the forest!"
Perhaps the Ranger Captain brought up too much of a topic, and the two elves hiding in the shadows did not continue to talk for a long time.
Presumably to break the unbearable silence, Arret continued to bring up the details he had just discovered during the investigation, "I saw a dwarf in the demon team just now, and he seemed to want to greet me in elven language when he saw me. ”
"He seems to say that he is a ...... of the Limestone Clan"
"The territory of the Greystone Clan is on the other side of the forest, how could their members have nothing to do here?It must be the evil illusion of the demons, don't be fooled by them!" Eric interrupted the rookie ranger, in the stories of the elders, those demons have many unconventional methods that people can't guard against.
However, as long as you wait for the supporting troops, your task is basically completed, and these demons are not the opponents of the powerful ranger legions of our elven kingdom at all!!
Captain Ranger kept cheering himself up in his heart. It's just that the long absence of rest and the huge pressure make him look very haggard.
The barrier between the Abyss and Garlandia is not as insurmountable as many people think, and Eric has heard rumors of demonic rebellion many times over the centuries. It's just that it is rumored that those demons who came to Galandia because of accidents were quickly suppressed because of their weak strength, and his heart inevitably became heavy when he thought that this group of organized demons was likely to be just the vanguard of the invasion of the army.
The demon invasion that the elders had been worried about for a long time might have to be stopped by his own generation! I hope that a child of his age does not need to waste his precious youth on the battlefield!
Looking at Arrett's still somewhat immature face, Eric prayed to the great goddess reverently.
