Chapter 475: The Lost Outpost (Part II)
The smell of earth filled the blood lion's nostrils, and he exhaled hard, trying to blow the foreign object out of his nose. "Poof" particles of dirt tumbled down from the knight's body, but a large amount of dirt still stuck to his body like a sticky substance.
Shaking his head and shaking off the dust from his hair and ears, Leon briefly felt his physical condition. Fortunately, this sudden fall did not hurt the muscles and bones, but there were a few minor abrasions on the arms. The next question is, is Bakham as lucky as he is, and where is he?
Carefully removing his gloves, the chief knight groped his surroundings with the palm of his hand, wet dirt and gravel piling up behind him, which Leon speculated were mounds of dirt left behind the collapse. He was worried that the giant ants would wait for the environment to stabilize before returning, so he was careful when examining this part, lest he accidentally touch the dreaded claw. That didn't happen, though, and the space was surprisingly quiet. If only there was light, Leon could not help but think.
Green points of light lit up, first one, then two, three, and a large amount of green light was like a candle lit out of thin air, dispelling the darkness away from the knight's side. Children of Green, Leon didn't expect to meet them again here. The little ones, who were supposed to inhabit the forest, surrounded him, and the darer ones landed on the backs of his gloved hands. They seem to be so happy forever, unaffected by the oppressive atmosphere here.
Regardless, the Green Sons did bring a rare light from the underworld, and although their emitted green light was a little uncomfortable, the knights quickly got used to the environment. He got up slowly, looking around at a very slow pace so that the little guy next to him would not accidentally touch the iron on his body. Basically, it's a cave about the size of the previous room, and the rough mortar on the walls suggests that the person who made it was a rat man.
Taking two steps forward, Bakham's upper body also appeared in the range of the green light. The Blood Lion hurriedly leaned over to check the condition of his servant, and found that the latter was not injured much, but his lower body was pressed by the mound, and it was probably difficult to pull it out for the time being. And the elf himself fell into a coma, probably hitting something hard while falling. Knowing that Bakham was fine, Leon breathed a sigh of relief, not to talk about responsibility or personal feelings, and wanted to get out of this kind of place, and it would be difficult for the two to do without anyone.
At the thought of retreating, a somewhat bold idea appeared in Leon's mind, an idea so absurd that it was difficult for him to accept for a moment. But after hesitating for a few seconds, the knight still opened his mouth and asked the green children around him, "Did you save us?" Judging from the attitude of the elves towards the green children before, these little guys should be able to understand the language, but I don't know if they can understand the meaning of humans.
Who would have thought that the Green Sons would all fly up after hearing Leon's question, and they spun around the Blood Lion so quickly that the latter was confused. It took a few seconds for Leon to realize that they must be cheering. One of the sons of the green, Leon guessed to be a leader or something, and it was almost impossible for humans to tell the difference between them, flew in front of the knight's eyes, and nodded with a very proud posture.
This time it was the knight chief who was surprised, he just thought that the appearance of these little guys was too coincidental, but he didn't expect that they were really the benefactors who saved himself and Bakham from the giant ants. "Thank you. Leon thanked them in a gentle voice, and he wanted to bow to these friends, but the human etiquette was probably meaningless to them.
The Green Sons seemed to have a better impression of the knights after receiving their gratitude, and several of them even burrowed into Leon's hair, going in and out of it, making the Blood Lion laugh and cry. However, it was not safe yet, and Leon decided to explore the room with the Green Sons first after confirming that Bakham would not wake up for the time being. With his old eyes, Leon quickly deduced the purpose of the room, which should be some kind of outpost. It may be a matter of time of transformation, but the construction of the nezumi is no different from that of humans, and the knights of this military facility have long been familiar with it.
"So—" Leon held a small piece of tattered cloth with some words written crookedly, but to the educated knight they looked more like primitive codes, like those things that mercenaries would use among themselves. He turned his head to look northwest of the room, where he had landed, and a large amount of gravel and sand formed a steep slope that was difficult to climb. The Blood Lion guessed that this room was originally connected to the room he was in, with the upper room used to collect scouts' returns, and this was the control room where the information was sorted and sent. This is a convincing guess, and it explains why the Midori Child was able to open the two rooms so easily, taking advantage of the passages that already existed.
And this means that there should be another passage to a higher intelligence agency. Leon believed that it would lead directly to the core of the rat people's building, and they should not have had time to develop a full-fledged intelligence system, most of which should go directly to the leader. The Blood Lion, who had the idea, expanded his search range, and he pressed against the wall, the light of the Green Sons was not strong, and at most it could only allow him to see five steps in front of him, and it was not easy to miss it in this way.
The wind blowing from the walls frightened the Green Sons around the knight away, and it took a few seconds for them to regain their courage and fly back to Leon. Where the wind blows, there is a downward winding hole, large enough for the nezumi to crawl on all fours, but too small for humans. Leon hadn't thought of crawling into the passage, but considering that the length of the passage could not be determined, he had to dismiss the idea of taking such an adventure.
Now that we are sure that we can't go any further, the first thing to do is to find a way out of here. This infiltration has allowed Leon to obtain quite a lot of information, and the giant ant colony he encountered just now has shown that the strength of two people alone is not enough to operate under the current valley. But having said that, the passage deep into the hole was too small, and the tunnel into it was blocked by a collapse, so how could he and Bakham get out?
"Do you know how to get back to the ground?" the chief knight asked the children of Midori beside him, who could get here, and if they wanted to get out. Just hope that the methods of these little guys will work for humans and elves as well.
The little green creatures looked at each other, and then chattered together to discuss, and they looked at Leon as they discussed, which made the latter a little curious. It felt as if the little ones knew how to get out of the ground, but they were hesitant to tell Leon about it.
And at this moment, the blood lion shrugged his nose, he smelled a slight smell of sulfur from the passage that led to the depths, and a bad premonition came over him. The Children of Green were apparently aware of this, and perhaps forced by the smell of sulfur, the little ones stopped arguing and formed a sign with their bodies, leading Leon to the root of a tree exposed to the air in the corner of the room.
Leon looked at the root of the tree rather helplessly, he didn't doubt that the Green Child could go to the part of the tree through it, but he might as well forget it.
Just as the chief knight was about to turn around to see if he could try to climb the steep slope caused by the landslide, Bakham's voice suddenly rang out, "Stand up." "At some point, the elf came out of the mound of earth on its own. It was almost impossible, as Leon did not hear the sound of the earth churning. However, when he saw a large number of Green Sons covering the elves' naked bodies, he realized that the person he was talking to was probably not his subordinate.
"Stand up. The elf, whose eyes were blank and glowed with a faint green light, repeated the three words again, and then walked to the root of the tree first.
The corners of the Blood Lion's mouth twitched a few times, and he wondered if he should trust Bakham now. But considering that the Son of Midori hadn't harmed himself, he followed after taking a deep breath.
I saw Bakham's left hand holding the root of the tree, and his right hand resting on Leon's shoulder, he looked at the blood lion with an expressionless face, "Close your eyes, don't open them." The knight did so, and then a myriad of small voices came from all directions around him, it was the children of the green, and what were they singing......
