Section B, Chapter 27: The Crow (Edus)
"No, this crow has also been shot down. Eddes looked helplessly at the letter crow that had just been delivered: it had been shot by an arrow of incredible precision, and it had flapped its wings with struggle before falling into the snow.
Looking at the Corruptor soldiers below, Edus's scalp tingled: there were three or four hundred enemies......
"You know that's it...... Why haven't those corruptors reached the fourth floor yet?" asked Denor, who was writing a letter, without raising his head.
"How do I know that...... It's so abnormal. Eders gritted his teeth and shouted, "Maybe they're sure they won't let us escape, so they're not in a hurry at all?"
"But we didn't have a place to hide. Quill slammed his axe to the ground and stared at the door.
"It's better not to attack, and have more time to prepare. Eders was stubborn.
"I'd like to ask the captain what your plan is?" Quill squinted at Edus, "The form is overwhelmingly unfavorable. β
"I've sent the only men we have to seal off the east and west staircases. Eders said dryly: "Blocking the stairs with some obstacles can somewhat delay the enemy's attack." The risk of doing so, of course, is that the missing soldiers will not be able to get through when they come back. For this reason, I deliberately arranged for two soldiers to stand guard at each staircase. β
"Come on, you. Quill snorted unconvinced, "Even those things like tables are trying to keep the Corrupt at bay? Besides, the corpses on the eastern staircase have disappeared like the western staircase - I think they've all been resurrected as the Corrupted." That's how you can do it?"
"It's better than nothing! you're going to do it against me?!" Eddes cried out dissatisfiedly, "including you and me, and Elton, the guard next to Lord Maceβthere are only ten of us in all." β
"It's a ten-figure manpower. Quill leaned on his axe, glancing at the blade of the axe on the ground.
"Yes, it's just ten people!" Eddes glared at him fiercely: "What about the other party? Thirty times the number of troops, as many as three hundred! Do you have any other tricks to do something else?"
"Nope. Quill shook his head: "All I can think of is to send someone to block the staircase and scout the enemy." It's not that you're doing it wrong, it's that it really doesn't make sense. β
"It's ...... too" Eders suddenly let out a sigh: "Hey, what did I just get angry about?"
"I don't even care, you feel guilty or anything. Quill untied the wine bag from his waist and took a big sip, "Damn, I'm running out of wine." β
"I'm not guilty. Eders retorted weakly: "I'm just thinking about what to do...... If the letter can't be delivered, no one will notice what is happening in the Cold Snow Castle anytime soon. Sooner or later, someone will find out, but it will be much more difficult to capture this Cold Snow Castle. Even if our reinforcements do take this place, they will suffer heavy damage. β
"Isn't that the time to worry about that?" Quill interjected, "Obviously we were probably dead before they came here." β
"More likely to be corrupted. Denor, who had not spoken for a long time, whispered.
"The two Aya don't know what happened. Eders worried: "They're our guests...... We should have done everything we could to protect it. β
"I'm afraid I'm going to die a long time ago. Quill's tone was very low: "Aya can't be corrupted, so most likely she was killed." β
"I can only hope they get out of here. Eddes tapped his helmet worriedly.
"Impossible. They were in the reception room on the first floor. Quill continued to strike at Edus's nerves: "So close to the ice dragon statue...... There's no way I'll survive. β
"Can't you say something auspicious?" Eders couldn't take it anymore.
"I've been talking hard to hear, but it's all true. Quill was silent for a moment, "Do you think I want those two lovely girls to die like this, just like the girl Aiya who disappeared into the Snowcastle a dozen years ago?"
"Don't talk about that tragedy!" Eddes slammed the table angrily, "Don't make me think about it again...... Namedia. β
"I know, your first love......" Quill muttered quietly, "Alright, I'll try not to mention it in the future." β
"Never again!" Edus shouted in a tone of surprise that he himself hauled.
The atmosphere in the room was extremely cold, and Eders stared blankly at his knees.
"Anyway, you can't give up. Eders sadly declared: "I have sworn ...... You must swear to protect Mistress Mace. β
"I didn't expect you to value oaths so much. Quill had just been stunned by Edus's anger, and began to say in a playful tone: "The reason why I want to live is not as honorable as yours. I'm here to marry my girlfriend. β
"She's already agreed?" Eders asked enviously.
"Hmm. She agreed to marry as soon as the Breath of Winter had passed and we were all alive. Quill's expression was slightly intoxicated.
I'm so envious...... Eders sadly fantasized that once this battle was over, would he be able to find a wife?
Glancing at the empty cages in the room, Eders said with some despair, "There are only four living crows left...... Denord, how many letters have you written?"
"This is the thirteenth letter. Dereno's expression was still a little dazed: "The thirteenth letter...... Thirteen, an ominous number. This crow will definitely be shot down as well. β
"It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the thirteenth letter. Eders leaned helplessly on the table: "Twelve letter crows have been shot down in a row...... With the darkness of the night and the dense snow fog, how could he possibly see the crow flying out?"
"The point is, only one arrow was fired each time, and every time it shot down the letter crow. Dereno put down the pen in his hand, "Aside from his eyesight, the Corruptor's arrows are terrifyingly accurate. The wind outside was terrible, and the path of the arrows should have been disturbed - even so, he could make a terrible shot. β
"Why don't we try to put the crows in another room?" Quill pointed out in a rough voice, "find a distance and then put it, I don't believe the archer can react!"
"Don't talk nonsense if you don't understand. Eddes glared at him, "For the Crows of Snowcastle to set off, they must be allowed to set off from this window as if they were trained. Otherwise, most likely, they will not know where to fly. β
"Trouble is dead. Quill snorted and shouted, "Then pull it down!"
"Try again. Eders still didn't give up: "I don't believe it, he can shoot down again? such a distance, such a strong wind! β
"It's the same with how many more tries you try. Quill was still saying cool things that matched the facts: "I don't think it's going to kill them anymore, it's not easy to train a letter crow." Give up and forget it. β
"How's that going to work?" said Edus's stubbornness, "If you say that, I'll have to try againβDenor, give me the letter." β
Taking the letter, Eddes walked over to the other letter crow. When the cage door was opened, the white crow inside was lazily spreading its wings.
Stroking its thick, oily feathers, Eders prayed that it would send the letter out safely. Carefully tied the letter to its legs with a black silk rope, the captain carried it up to the window and placed it on the windowsill.
"Central Barracks. Eders slapped Crow's ass hard. (If you don't do that, they won't fly.) οΌ
The snow crow quacked, flapped its wings and flew out of the window.
Eddes stared nervously at the snow crow, and when it flew to the spot where the crow had just been shot, the captain felt his heart rise to his throat......
The howling cold wind drowned out the sound of the arrows rubbing against the air, and Eders helplessly watched as the crow with the arrow fell again.
"I've convinced the corruptor. Eders sighed: "Forget it, I'm afraid there is no hope of sending the letter tonight." β
"Captain, I have an idea. Denor, who had been in a daze just now, suddenly spoke.
"What?" Eddes asked hopefully, hearing Deerno, who had always been thoughtful.
"Let's release two crows at a time, so it's going to be fine. Deleno pounded the table excitedly: "I didn't think of such a simple thing just now...... Sure enough, the distraction of negative emotions is too strong. β
"That's right. Eders, who suddenly realized, patted his head: "Damn, it's really emotional......"
"Shut up, Captain, you don't have that brain. Quill snorted.
"Shut up!" Edus glared at him viciously.
Moments later, both crows were carried by Eders to the windowsill. Patting their butts excitedly, Eders exclaimed, "Central Barracks." β
The two crows screamed and flew out of the window.
This is foolproof...... Edus was relieved to think that the crow was flying fast and would not give him time to shoot a second arrow.
However, he was stunned by the scene before him: a large metal arrow as thick as a javelin flew into the sky, and the two letter crows were pierced on the arrow.
