Chapter 2: Ambush
The vanguard led by Ahan soon encountered the barbarians in front of the army. The number of the barbarians was smaller than the scouts had estimated, no more than fifty at most, but each barbarian warrior was heavily armed. Some were armed with double-edged battle axes, some with serrated knives, and others with meteor hammers or elongated maces.
These heavy weapons could not be lifted by ordinary people with one hand, and even trained northern warriors were quite difficult to use. But in the eyes of the barbarians, the heavier the weapon, the easier it is. The powerful weapons can bring out their innate brute strength to the fullest.
How much power you have on the battlefield means how much destructive power you have. Although the cavalry squad led by Yahan was nearly twice as large as the other party, if they really fought each other, they would not be able to take advantage of anything at all.
However, Yahan is by no means a runaway from the battle, and he has in his bones the courage of the northern people who are not afraid of strong enemies. The ferocity of the barbarians did not make him cowardly, but made his blood boil. His father's advice had been forgotten, and Ahan's mind was now full of murderous intent.
"Warriors of the North, rush with me and kill all these barbarians!"
Armed with a Froststorm Hammer, Ahan led the way into enemy lines. Seeing the eldest prince taking the lead, the inspired warriors of the north also rushed to the enemy. The two teams of people and horses mixed together, and the neighing of war horses and the sound of metal colliding sounded in the ice and snow.
In the melee, Ahan was like a beast out of a cage, and a pair of square hammers in his hands were like two life harvesters, and all the barbarians who tried to get close to him were smashed by the frost hammer and ended up in pieces.
The Froststorm hammers in Ahan's possession are the work of Byrne Jacob, the best enchanters in the Snowy Country. In the center of the hammer is an energy hedron the size of a goose egg. This pure white energy spar has been highly concentrated by the enchanter, and contains extremely cold frost energy. Whenever Ahan swung his blow, the outer surface of the square hammer would be covered with a silvery white halo, like a comet piercing the sky.
The barbarians' weapons, though heavy and sturdy, were covered with a thick layer of hoarfrost before they could reach the Frost Hammer. The power of the frost makes the barbarians' weapons as fragile as glass. When the Froststorm Hammer falls, no matter how hard the steel, it shatters like a lightning strike. Although each barbarian warrior is very strong, once he loses his weapon, he cannot withstand the bombardment of the hammer.
Ahan wields a double hammer and shoots his bow to the left and right. Stumps and severed arms flew in front of them, and the air was filled with a strong smell of blood. In just a few minutes, more than a dozen barbarian corpses were left around Ahan.
For the first time, the tall and mighty barbarian had a look of fear in his eyes. They had never seen such a brave general as Ahan, who was simply a god. With a hammer, you can smash a clansman who is nearly two meters tall to the ground with a weapon. Among the barbarian tribes, I am afraid that only the most powerful barbarian chieftains can reach the level of Ahim.
Looking at the barbarians who were stoned to death by Ahan, none of them were complete. Either the whole head is missing, or half of the body is dislocated and separated, and the death is unbearable. The barbarians' psychological defenses have finally collapsed. They screamed as they turned and fled.
"Warriors, catch up. Don't let these brutes run away!"
The red-eyed Ahan rode his horse and galloped. He looks like an invincible madman. The hundred northern warriors who accompanied him were left far behind him.
Ahan's roar terrified the fleeing savages even more. The snow is littered with all sorts of weapons discarded by the barbarians, but fortunately they don't like to wear heavy armor, and even in the snow and ice, the barbarians go into battle shirtless. Without the weight, the barbarians ran as fast as Ahan on horseback.
The harsh natural environment outside the Great Wall of the Absolute Mountains has created a barbarian that is no less strong than a beast. They are so brisk that they can take a distance of several meters with each step. It's a pity that the northern war horses are famous for their endurance, and speed is not their strong point, if Yahan is replaced by the fast horses of the Southern Iron Lion Country, these dozen barbarians may have already become his hammer souls.
The dozen or so barbarians who ran for their lives fled into a canyon. Ahan led his team of 100 men in pursuit, and by this time the sky had cleared, and the vision obscured by the wind and snow gradually became clear.
The canyon in front of you is called the Valley of the Wind Helmet. More than 800 years ago, it was named after the Radiant coalition that held off the Daredevil army in this valley. The topography of the valley stretches from the north to the north, with white mountains rising from low to high until the cliffs on either side stand like towers, blocking out all light.
The dozen or so barbarians who fled into the valley disappeared without a trace like mud cattle into the sea. Ahan wandered around the Valley of the Wind Helmet for a long time, but he did not find a single shadow of a barbarian. As the team went deeper into the valley, the path became narrower and narrower. In the end, there was only room for five horses in the narrow valley.
Such terrain was obviously not conducive to the deployment of the troops, not only was the superiority of the cavalry lost, but once the rear route was cut off by the enemy, it would be in a dilemma. Although reckless by nature, Ahan is not a fool. Years of experience in the war made him smell a hint of danger.
"Oh no, I've been tricked. Retreat!"
Ahan turned his horse's head, and he finally remembered his father's advice, and it was clear that the dozens of barbarians were just bait to lure him into the Valley of the Helm.
But just as Ahan's troops were about to turn and retreat, the enemy in the valley finally appeared. The barbarians, who were hiding behind the rocks, threw their spears in unison. Hundreds of iron spears nearly two meters long have become the deadliest weapons in the hands of barbarians at this moment.
The sharp spear that obscured the sky and the sun fell like raindrops. Although some of the reacting soldiers raised their round shields, battle axes and even broadswords in their hands to resist, all defenses were in vain in the face of the barbarians' almost perverted brute force.
The iron spears that broke through the air not only pierced the shields of the northern soldiers, pierced into the chain mail, and some also pinned the whole person to the ground.
The barbarians are condescending, and their movements are uniform, not at all like the rabble they had before. The warriors of the north on horseback became a living target for the barbarians.
However, after two volleys, nearly half of the 100 northern cavalry led by Ahan fell. Many warriors were thrown down by frightened horses and fell to the ground wailing. Even worse were the horses that were shot. When the horse falls, it will not only affect the people next to it, but some will even block the route to break through.
In such a narrow valley, it is very difficult to get back up once you fall. The barbarians watched the northern soldiers at the bottom of the valley trample on each other and become a mess, and a sense of revenge surged in their hearts.
"Don't panic, dismount and break through the same way. ”
At the critical juncture, Yahan finally regained the calmness and composure that a general should have. He ordered the remaining soldiers to divide their horses on both sides of the team and form a mobile wall to cover the return of the group along the same route.
The warriors hid under their horses, bent over and on foot. Sharp spears flew over their heads, and every now and then a horse fell to the ground with a shot and a miserable neighing sound that pierced the nerves of every warrior.
Ahan was the only one in the whole team standing tall with his head held high. Although the tall prince became the main target of the barbarians, he was not afraid at all. He danced like a spinning windmill with the two hammers in his hand, and the spears that were shot at him were shot down one by one, and none of them could hurt Ahan half a point.
However, although Ahan attracted most of the firepower, he was unable to salvage the defeat. As the last of the horses neighed and fell, the faltering northern warriors no longer had a barrier to obstruct, and it was probably only a matter of time before the whole army was destroyed.
