Chapter 24: The Beginning of Darkness

Early in the morning, Frank Reed, who had not been sleepy, got up early and walked in one of the gardens of the castle thinking about Daniel's eyes the previous night. Frank knew very well that the differences between their brothers would not be easily changed by a few small talks. Vought's succession to the position of Duke will only exacerbate the contradictions between them. But what should he do? This made Frank feel very distressed.

"Good morning, uncle!" said Jenny Ryder, dressed in plain clothes, as she walked up to Frank's side. The beauty of yesterday's luxurious clothes highlights the delicacy of the face. But under the sweet appearance, it is difficult to hide a little haggard.

After a brief encounter at the dinner party, Frank did not have the slightest aversion to this clever niece. Although he knew that many of the questions at the dinner table were arranged by Daniel, the charisma that emanated from his words made Frank deeply feel that this niece would have an unlimited future.

"Oh, Jenny, you're up so early, what? are you going to walk with me in the garden?" asked Frank, smiling.

Jenny shook her head and said coquettishly, "Of course not! I came here when I saw you here, uncle." I must have something on your mind when I look at you! โ€

"Haha, I don't think your face is very good. Is there something to worry about?" said Frank, sitting on a chair in the garden, looking at the furnishings. Although he has not returned for ten years, the furnishings have not changed in the slightest, which makes Frank feel like he is in a different world.

Seeing Frank sitting in a chair, Jenny sat alongside her, looked at the trees in the garden and said, "Uncle, don't think that I am troubled by the quarrels of your fathers, but only by myself. โ€

Hearing Jenny say this, Frank's eyes widened, and his face was full of curiosity. Ask, "Do you still have troubles?" โ€

"My mother died early, and my father only had one daughter, me. I'm going to get married in a few years, so how lonely my father should be. I wish I had been a man or had a younger brother, so that I would feel more comfortable with my father. Jenny said as tears slowly welled up in the corners of her eyes.

These words of concern spoke to Frank's heart. Seeing that the niece in front of him was so sensible, Frank secretly decided to find a good family for her. "Jenny, you don't have to worry too much about your father. I'll go back and let your aunt pay more attention to see if there is a suitable candidate for your marriage. So that you can take good care of your father. โ€

Hearing the words of marriage, Jenny's face turned red, and she said a little embarrassed: "Thank you, uncle, how can there be such a big difference between you and my father?"

"This is a knot between us, and there will be no way to untie it! You should think about your future life and don't get involved in issues that you shouldn't be involved in. The more things I know, the harder life becomes. Frank said his point with some emotion and some tactfulness.

But Jenny looked unpleasant for a moment. She has always been strong, and she will never listen to words that do not meet her heart. It seemed to her that too many people saw herself as a weak girl, and she herself was far from being as weak as she seemed.

Seeing that nothing else could be obtained from Franck's mouth, Jenny excused herself and left. Frank was the only one left in the garden enjoying the silence of the morning.

At this time, Haight also got up early. For him, the power of books is irresistible, and he knows that this journey will soon be over, and it may be a few years before he comes here again. So hurry up and look at the books you borrowed yesterday.

Suddenly, a written account struck him. "The knights were helpless against the huge stone in front of them, and saw that victory was about to slip away. The squire Ebner remembered the ring he had taken from the auction and put it on his hand, feeling a steady stream of power surging through his body. He pushed the boulder out with all his might. The knights shouted and rushed forward. โ€

Haight read it several times. This ring is supposed to have the ability to give people great power, and if someone gets this ring and takes advantage of the night to move the red dragon away, wouldn't it make sense? But is this book really true?

Thinking of this, Haidt slowly reached into his backpack. Hiding the dragon egg and the strange stone in his backpack, Haidt would always touch them when no one was around, fantasizing that the dragon egg would hatch into a red dragon and ride the dragon himself through the sky.

Since dragons exist, there must also be rings that allow people to have infinite power. Haight thought about it and read the book in his hand again.

Outside the castle, Daniel's soldiers were busy with sacrificial supplies. All the tributes had just been collected in the morning, and when everything was ready, Daniel ordered Frank to be called.

Seeing that all the tributes were ready, Frank exchanged a few words with Daniel with satisfaction, and ordered the soldiers to march towards the graveyard of the Red family.

The Rhett family's graveyard is at the top of another mountain. After passing a mountain road, the team came to the family cemetery surrounded by a sea of clouds. Haight was captivated by the beautiful scenery along the way, but the sight of the cemetery was even more than he could have imagined.

As far as the eye can see, rows of tombstones stand neatly, and I don't know how many people are buried here. The soldiers carefully took down the tributes prepared on the cart and placed them in front of each tombstone in a regular manner.

Frank and Daniel looked at each other and nodded as if communicating. Picking up a box of tribute, he took Haight's hand and walked into a cave at the front of the cemetery.

"Father, where are we going?" said Haight, strangely at the sight of himself being dragged into the cave.

As he walked, Frank said, "Let's go and pay homage to the ancestors of Rhett. Everyone in it is the guardian of our family. โ€

"And whose tombstones are out there?" Haight pointed to the outside of the cave.

"They are all knights of the Rhett family, and they will be laid to rest here after their deaths, and they will be worshiped and revered by future generations. Frank explained. And the cave has become very dark.

The thought that only he and his father had entered the cave felt strange. "Why are it just the two of us coming in. Uncle, why don't they come in?"

"This is a family rule, and only one adult can worship at a time. If necessary, bring a minor clansman with you. We came to worship this time, and your uncle gave us this opportunity. As he spoke, Frank felt the road widening in front of him.

After walking for a while, the space suddenly became larger. A huge pile of bones appeared in front of Haight's eyes, and they were piled up into a small mountain, and a huge dragon head skull was piled on top, giving him a sense of oppression that he had never felt before. Haight couldn't help but exclaim.

Frank pointed to the highest platform behind the keel and said, "That's where the coffin of our great ancestor, Savage Ryder, is kept." He enjoys the highest honors as a dragon slayer. Below are the dukes and heirs of our Rhett family. Next to it are our kindred family. โ€

"Savage, I know, I've read Savage, and he says that he was the founder of the Raid family. is the hero of the family. His story is my favorite. Haight said, his eyes couldn't help but look towards the high platform. Although he couldn't see what it looked like, the high platform set up a glorious image in his young heart.

"How about I tell you some stories today that you don't know? These stories are a secret, mysterious stories that can only be told here. Frank said with a serious face. Hai nodded and listened quietly to her father's story.

Frank pointed to Savic's coffin on the high platform and said, "Actually, our ancestors first belonged to a legendary order of knights, the Knights of the Holy Light. This order is full of strange guys. Each of them had at least one artifact in his possession. The Hallows are capable of granting magical powers to their owners. With the help of these artifacts, they were invincible and soon reclaimed the land that belonged to the people from the clutches of the dragon. But this mighty order of knights was later severely damaged in a dragon-slaying battle. There were only five people left in the original order of a few dozen people. Our ancestors were one of them. The rest of the story is pretty much the same as the one in the book. They are in the final victory. โ€

"Is the holy weapon in our ancestors' hands a Flame Sword?" asked Haidt.

"Yes, it's a holy artifact that belongs to our Rhett family. Later, during the war, several more were obtained, and finally our Rhett family had a total of five holy weapons. Frank replied proudly.

Haidt suddenly thought of what he had thought when he was reading the book before: "Is there a holy weapon that can make the dragon disappear, or a holy weapon that can move the dragon away?" โ€

"Hey, that's interesting. There are many types of holy weapons, and only the person who made them knows how many there are! Frank had a sense of enlightenment. But on second thought, the price of using the Hallows is beyond the reach of ordinary people. No one is stupid enough to joke with their lives!

After chatting, Frank took the tribute out of the box and took Haight to kneel and kowtow in order while placing the tribute. By the time the two of them had all worshipped, Haidh was already panting tiredly.

Finally, Frank went to his father's tombstone and whispered a few words. He took a bow that had been placed on the coffin.

Haight didn't notice the bow at first, the dust had already covered the bow tightly, making it one with everything around it. Seeing his father wiping the dust with his hands, Haight asked curiously, "What is this, and why is it here?"

"It's your grandfather's favorite weapon. I originally put it here. Now that the red dragon is gone, we need this artifact to protect us. Frank said, putting the bow on his back and pulling Haidh out of the cave.

Daniel and the others, who were worshipping outside, quickly finished their sacrifice and were waiting for Frank to come out. Seeing Frank walk out with the bow in the cave, Daniel's calm face instantly became gloomy. I wanted to ask Frank why he did this, but Frank ignored Daniel's meaning at this time, and rode straight on his horse and ordered the return. Take the people back with you. Daniel didn't say a word because of the last night's argument, but his eyes were fixed on the slightly old bow.

The group returned to the outside of the castle in silence, Haidt originally thought that they would return to the city to rest for a day, but Frank said directly to Daniel and the others: "This worship has been hard for you, I think there are still many things to deal with in Dragonclaw City, so I won't delay here." I'll come back when I have time, take care of yourself. Jenny, welcome to Dragonclaw!

These words were not expected by Daniel, and he was about to say something to test it, but Frank's team had already turned and walked forward. The awkward atmosphere made everyone feel uncomfortable.

Looking at the group that was gradually moving away, Jenny on the side asked puzzledly, "Uncle, what's wrong with him, why did he leave in such a hurry?" โ€

"I don't know, but do you see the bow he was holding? Or maybe that's something your grandfather never used after he died. I really don't know what my brother is going to do. Daniel said, turning back to the castle.

In the castle, Jenny supervised the attendants to clean up the room and settle the supplies for the sacrifice. Daniel, on the other hand, sat in his seat and thought about what had happened recently.

Suddenly, the Alva knight walked in, and behind him several soldiers tied a man. The man was very tall, with tattoos of scriptures all over his face, and there was a sense of distinction in his coarse cloth clothes.

Daniel saw that this man was tightly tied up and asked, "What?

"This man was just caught. As we follow the clues to the red dragon's disappearance, we find that he has dragon scales in his hands, as well as dragon fingernails. So he was arrested and interrogated. But he doesn't say anything, he wants to see you. In front of you, he will tell the dragon. Knight Avar said.

Daniel nodded and looked at the person in front of him. He motioned for him to tell what he knew, but the man stood still, staring blankly at Daniel. This contempt ignited Daniel's anger as he stepped down the steps and punched the man in the stomach.

But Daniel didn't think of a punch, and instead of reacting, the man showed a smile. A smile that flows from the depths of your heart.

"What are you laughing at?" asked Daniel, looking at him curiously.

The man himself untied the rope that was tied to his body and began to move his arms and head. Seeing that the rope was easily untied, the soldiers next to him immediately surrounded the man to prevent him from harming Daniel. Seeing this, Daniel ordered the rest of the soldiers to leave.

After the other soldiers left, Avar didn't want to go. But the meaning in Daniel's eyes made him know that he couldn't stay there either. So he went outside the door and waited, and if there was any noise, he could rush in as soon as possible.

Seeing that only Daniel and himself were left in the entire hall. The man smiled and said, "The Count is indeed a hero. Actually, I didn't want to have anything to do with you. I just wanted to do my thing, but your men tied me up, and I never killed. So I can only come to see you. Let me introduce myself first, my name is Jeans."

Daniel felt that there was a bit of arrogance in what this man said, and he thought about the name of Jeans in his head, and his eyes searched for signs on this person's body that could determine the person's identity.

Seeing that Daniel kept looking at him, Jeans stretched out the thumb of his right hand, and there was a ring on his finger that stood out.

Although Daniel did not know what the purpose of the ring was, it could be seen that the person was wearing a holy weapon with powers. Seeing that Daniel did not move, he continued: "It seems that you know what I mean by sticking out my finger, and I am really not a dumb person. Okay, I think we can talk about working together. โ€

"What are you talking about?" "How can I not understand?" Daniel was confused by the word "cooperation".

Gene said as he ripped open his shirt with his hands, revealing his strong chest. A tattoo appears on the chest. He was a man with wings, and he held his sword in both hands and held it high above his head.

Seeing this tattoo, Daniel's eyes couldn't help but widen, and his brain instantly became numb. He stared at the tattoo and looked at it more closely, and said in horror, "How is that possible?" You are ยทยทยทยทยทยท"

Before Daniel could finish, Jeans got dressed and covered the tattoo and said, "Haha, yes." You may not understand it for a while. It's okay, if you're interested, how about we talk in a different place?"

Daniel immediately called the Alva knight in and told him to prepare the horses. Genes and Daniel then rode out of the castle. After a full day of running without a break on the road, Jeans took Daniel to a village. The village seems to be very peaceful, with people farming and others chatting on the streets. Ignoring Genes and Daniel at all.

Gene takes Daniel to a house that is clearly not the same as what is seen from the outside. In the middle of the house there is a deep cellar, and going down the cellar Daniel finds that the space here is simply scary. It turned out that the whole village was underneath this huge underground space, and many people were busy here. And a pile of dragon bones was placed in the middle.

"What is this, why is the dragon here?" said Daniel, surprised.

"That's why we're working with you! You should know that the sheer power of the Hallows can do things people can't imagine. And isn't that the first thing you're going to get?" said Jeans, pulling a ring out of his pocket.

Daniel saw at a glance that this ring was the one he wanted most in the scroll. He wanted to grab it, but reason reminded him not to move, and it was useless to move.

"You may not know that dragons are the root of the birth of these holy weapons. And we're making new Hallows out of dragons. Jeans said as he continued down. Daniel followed. Coming to the side of the dragon bone, Daniel knew that this was the corpse of the red dragon he had seen before, and now there were a few simple skeletons left.

"While we're making a new artifact, the carcass of this red dragon isn't ideal. For some reason, its blood was all gone. The dragon's heart is gone. I suppose something must have happened to your brother while he was fighting it?" said Jeans, touching the dragon's skeleton with his hand.

"Why don't you kill the Red Dragon yourself?" asked Daniel.

"We can't expose it yet, and you must know the reason. Okay, let's talk about the terms of cooperation! If you want to complete our mission, this ring will be delivered to you. Ennis said as he handed the ring to Daniel.

Daniel took the ring, put it in his hand and looked at it carefully, tears streaming down his eyes. "It was my dream to find this ring, we can work together, but do you know how to use it?" he said.

"Of course, but the price of using it is huge. We don't take it lightly. That's why we can leave it to you! When your mission is over, we'll tell you how to use it. As he spoke, Jeans held out his hand and motioned for Daniel to follow him inside.

Daniel looked in the direction of his finger, and in the darkness there were five figures watching him. He looked at the ring in his hand, then at the darkness in front of him, and a smile appeared on his lips. He put the ring on the ring finger of his left hand and walked over to the five men in the dark.
