Section E: Chapter 37: Armistice (Ice Rock Soldiers)
On the snowfield in front of the two outposts.
Due to the enemy's assault from the rear, the Icerocks had to abandon the assault on the Yongdong outpost and instead send more troops to deal with the frontal battlefield opened by the enemy army on the plains. The battle became more and more intense, and in just half an hour, the snow field was already covered with corpses, dotted with blood and scarlet.
With a swift stabbing of his sword, an Icerock soldier slashed an enemy soldier with a single blow. Using his shield to defend against the tomahawk slashed by another Child of Ice, the soldier thrust with his sword, but he also poked at the shield. Just as he was nervously surrounding the enemy and waiting for an opportunity to strike, a loud roar suddenly sounded from behind: it was the commander's voice.
"All Ice Warriors - Lay down your arms! Now the truce begins!" accompanied by the commander's loud roar, the horn symbolizing the retreat suddenly sounded, resounding throughout the plain.
After a moment's pause, the soldier was almost stabbed to death by the Son of Ice on the opposite side. Hurriedly adjusting his position to face the enemy, he retreated one after another, and thought to himself in annoyance: What are you kidding, you commander is a fart! We have lost so many people, and we are about to retake our outpost, why should we retreat and surrender like this? Wouldn't our descendants of the frost giants be looked down upon by those sons of the bullshit dragon gods?!
The atmosphere of battle was raging around him, and there was no Frost Child who laid down his arms at the commander's order. This kind of cowardly retreat order did not work at all in front of the Ice Rock Man who had already entered a state of deathmatch. The killer was already red-eyed, and the soldier's mind was filled with the desire to fight to the death and the sound of the metal clashing of weapons, and he once again raised his shield and charged, desperately crashing into the enemy.
The battle had reached this point, and all the scenes in his eyes were illusory with blood and sweat, but the fierce enemy in front of him was still extremely real - that is, the opponent he wanted to focus on killing, and there was nothing else. Once this one is killed, the next locked enemy will appear in sight, and he will attack them until the moment one of them falls. This is where many of the Ice Rock Men differ from the Eternal Winter Men the most: the former's innate fighting frenzy and fear of death are impossible for the latter to do without the blessing of the Ice Giants.
However, just as the soldiers, carried away by the desire to fight, were about to raise their shields and charge, an astonishingly loud roar came from the rear of the enemy's ranks, and the wind of the entire plain seemed to be hit by a burst of notes: "Children of Ice! Immediately lay down your arms and retreat! Order in the name of Commander Odys - Immediately cease fighting!"
The heavy, hoarse voice echoed for a few seconds before it completely dissipated, replaced by the rapid and loud sound of a trumpet. The blade swung into the air, and the enemy in front of him was a little stunned for the moment he dodged the attack. After less than two seconds, the metal grinding of the swords into the sheath rang out, and all the Children of Ice put away their weapons, raised their shields, and withdrew from the line.
Bewildered by the unexpected actions of the enemy, the soldier looked around in bewilderment: several of the soldiers still tried to pursue, but the commander shouted back. The earth-shattering horns of the two armies sounded one after another, and the soldiers on both sides reluctantly retreated slowly according to the command's instructions, putting away all their weapons. Even the warriors who had climbed the straight ladder halfway up the city wall withdrew one after another and went down to the ground to return to their troops.
The noise on the battlefield subsided in an instant, and the atmosphere around it was extremely cold with a tense air. All that can be heard now are the heralds on both sides who are constantly shouting "truce".
Extremely dissatisfied, the soldier stared angrily at the sluice gates of the outpost and the corpses piled up under the city walls: How many brothers' corpses did we use to knock down there, and we actually said that the armistice would be stopped! This is not fair at all!
The stiff, tense silence didn't last long, and the heralds on both sides rushed around to deliver the commander's orders to each squad leader. With a look of disbelief, the captain, who had listened to the order, walked back to the group with heavy steps. Unable to suppress his anger and curiosity about this scene, the soldier eagerly stepped forward and asked, "Captain, what's going on?"
"Have I allowed you to ask questions, soldier?!, no discipline at all!" he scolded the soldier in anger, and the captain's expression was slightly distorted with anger and shock. The corners of his mouth twitched twice, and the captain glared and trembled with anger: "What are you kidding...... The Commander wants us to stop fighting and retreat to the enemy's Eternal Winter outpost! The reason is that the is because a snow crow of the Children of Ice said that it had detected the Corruptor troops coming here!!"
Isn't that the most elite freedom sentinel of the Children of Ice? Hearing this famous term, the soldier's mind instantly calmed down, and he secretly felt that something was wrong: no, they couldn't be deceiving us. Otherwise, our army will not be allowed to enter another outpost.
Speaking of snow crows, it seems that he burned our catapult a few days ago, right?! After all, just like the snow crows that can deliver letters, the number of these "snow crows" is very small, and it is impossible to be everywhere...... Anger, the soldier clenched his fists, half angry: Damn, if Lao Tzu hadn't been strangled by him and dragged into the grass at that time, maybe he would have had time to stop the sabotage. If you had been a little more careful at that time, you would have called the patrol to capture the snow crows. When the time comes, you will definitely get a heavy reward, at least you don't have to work the battlefield.
But I can't really hate that guy...... Recalling how he felt when he woke up, the soldier pulled his collar sullenly: he helped me pull the collar before leaving, otherwise I would have frozen to death in a short time. Among other things, the practice itself deserves anyone's respect.
"This outpost is so bad?" another soldier shouted in an extremely unwilling tone, "Obviously, it will be defeated in a little while......
"Nonsense, of course you can't ask for it. Are you blind? I don't know what's wrong with the floodgates, I can't let them down, and the doors are wide open. If the Corruptor does attack, one of the defenders inside will die. Glaring viciously at the soldier who spoke, the captain said impatiently: "Also, you are not allowed to speak without reporting in front of the commander, you can't even remember this?!"
However, it was a scene that really began to creep in the army: groups of non-combatants were constantly coming out of the outpost and heading to the Eternalwinter outpost under the protection of the soldiers of the Children of Ice. After witnessing this scene, everyone's suspicions and doubts quickly disintegrated, turning into tension and panic: since the evacuation of the people had begun, the information that the snow crow said was definitely true: at least, he had enough trust from the commanders on both sides.
