Section B, Chapter 21: The Battle at the Staircase (Edus)

"Listen, soldiers! we must defend this staircase!" Eders yelled, "Adjutant Prague, take fifteen men to the eastern staircase!"

Prague took fifteen men with him and quickly rushed to the other side of the hallway. I counted the remaining people: there were seventeen people with me.

The Corruptor's assault was so sudden, that in just half an hour, two groups of enemies swooped in from the first floor. To be on the safe side and gather his manpower, Edus ordered everyone to retreat to the fourth floor, hold the top staircase, and then attack down in turn to subdue the floor.

Witnesses claim that the Corruptors walked out of a secret passage under the statue of the dragon god...... Eders gritted his teeth: Lord Mace didn't even know that there was such a secret passage under Cold Snow Castle!

As a result, there will definitely be many Corruptors leaving Snowcastle through the main entrance, and there will be many more enemies lurking in Eternal Winter...... The more Eders thought about it, the worse he felt: the two hunters hadn't caught it yet, and it happened again tonight. We've been too reactive......

"Lord Edus!" a soldier ran to him in a panic, incoherently reported, "Said Butler Brea...... The two Aya guests should still be in the reception room on the first floor. And the person he sent to deliver the food has not come back until now, so I am afraid that it is also unlucky. ”

"What?" Eddes was taken aback, "Those two Ayas haven't left yet?"

"Yes, Captain. The soldier said, "We...... I wonder if we should send someone to help them?"

"Stand down, soldier. Eders sighed, "Back to the team - go and help Adjutant Prague, he's on the eastern staircase." ”

"Yes, Captain. After a moment's hesitation, the soldier turned and ran.

We can't send someone to them at such a time...... Eders could only secretly pray that the two Ayas were okay.

The sound of several steel boots stomping on the ground came from the stairs, and everyone tensed their nerves.

As the sound drew closer, Eddes nervously rested his hand on the hilt of his sword.

Finally, several Corruptor soldiers appeared at the corner of the stairs. And with that comes the chilling chill.

Sentinel's uniform?Eders gritted his teeth and thought: Sure enough, the soldiers at the missing outpost have all been transformed into corruptors......

Staring into the dark blue eyes of the Corruptors, Eders took a deep breath and shouted, "Draw your weapons, soldiers!

The sound of swords unsheathed rang out, and the guards armed with swords and shields (except for Quill, who was still holding a large axe), surrounded the staircase in a tight arc.

The Corruptors drew their weapons and stared at the side. Those orchid eyes sent chills down Edus's organs.

The temperature in the surrounding area dropped sharply, and the white cold air gradually spread throughout the staircase.

The space at the top of the staircase was narrow, so neither side dared to attack rashly.

There were only about ten enemies in sight...... Eders stared nervously at their movements: I wonder if the Eastern Staircase was also attacked......

After an ethereal whisper of incomprehension, the Corruptors began to move quickly.

"Attack, soldiers!" Edus, remembering the Bachelor's advice, shouted, "Don't stare into their eyes for long periods of time, and pay attention to the chill from their mouths!"

The enemy, who seemed to have decided to force their way through, raised their shields and burst into the narrow staircase. Eders put on his helmet and stared at them.

Just looking at the Corruptor shuddered. He felt his will to fight curtailed by fear and an inexplicable chill. Thinking of the team members who could also be like this, Eders decided to fulfill his responsibilities as captain and boost morale.

Raising his sword, Eddes slammed into the nearest Corruptor: "Soldiers, keep up with your captain! Let the Corruptor taste the sword of the Ice Child!"

The morale of the team members was boosted and they rushed forward to meet the attack.

The Corruptor in front of him slashed at himself with his sword, and Edus raised his shield to block the blow with all his might. The concussion from his arm reminded him of the power of the blow.

What a strong arm strength...... The captain felt the numbness of his left arm in astonishment, and pushed away the enemy's long sword.

Observing the movements of the others out of the corner of his eye, Eddes took a step back and stabbed with a sword.

The sword stabbed into the enemy's shield, and the sword was ricocheted off the backlash. After parrying the blow, the Corruptor's shield slammed into Edus.

Dodging the onslaught sideways, the captain swung his shield instead, smashing his helmet with all his might. With a dull thud, the Corruptor staggered back. Not sparing the enemy's flaws, Edus, who was against the shield, slammed sideways into the enemy, knocking them to the ground.

Clenching his sword, Eders quickly rushed forward. However, just as he drew the long sword that pierced his chest, the sound of the heavy sword slashing came from behind him.

Sensing that something was wrong, Eddes immediately rolled to the side and got up. Another Corruptor in blood-stained armor was standing behind him, carrying a broad-bladed greatsword that was dripping blood.

This guy ...... Eddes gritted his teeth and slowly backed away with his shield raised: there were three severed corpses at his feet.

The enemy was eerily silent, and he dragged his heavy sword and rushed straight at Edus. The strange chill emanating from him made the captain shiver involuntarily.

Barely able to resist the horrific slash with his shield, Eddes felt a sharp pain in his shoulder: the blow was more powerful than he had expected, nearly dislocating his shoulder.

Narrowly dodging the second attack, the enemy suddenly stopped moving, shuddered slightly, and fell straight in front of Edus, who slashed his axe into his armor.

Without time to speak, Edes nodded to him in thanks. Immediately, they looked for another nearby target.

The battle didn't last long before the gloomy whispers were heard again. The Corruptor all stopped attacking and retreated back to the stairs with their shields raised. After taking a few steps back, everyone turned around and ran down the stairs.

"Don't pursue!" Edus, who was finally relieved, stopped Quill and the others who were picking up the big axe and wanted to chase and kill: "Take a break, soldiers...... Quill, count the casualties of your enemies. ”

The red-eyed Quill reluctantly agreed, and he lowered his axe and counted the casualties. The surrounding soldiers weary withdrew their weapons, dodging the cold or sitting or leaning against the wall.

The two soldiers wept over the death of their companion. Approaching them, Edes tried to say something reassuring. In the end, however, he simply handed them the flask at his waist.

"We have killed five and killed eight of the Corrupt. Quill lowered his eyelids: "Damn, five brothers were killed by such dead people......"

"Five for eight...... Eders shook his head: "It's not worth it...... It's not worth dying anymore. ”

There was silence at the top of the staircase, and no one said anything. Eders approached each of the fallen guards and helped them close their eyes.
