Section E: Chapter 42: Gaps in the Defensive Line (Odyss)

Shaking his head, Odysse brushed Zadek's words behind him. It was too dark to see around, and it was lit by blazing torches and braziers. The enemies of the black pressure gathered in a heap, and it was completely impossible to tell the difference between the smoke emitted by the black ice and the snow mist. Gradually, all the following troops followed, and thousands of corruptors crowded under the city, as if waiting for something. Just looking at the dense blue pupils made the legion commander feel a chill.

A volley rained down, and nearly a quarter of the enemy fell, only to get up a few seconds later and pull out the arrows that had been stuck in them. Despite the darkness of the night, Odysses got back up after Thomas, who had been pushed off the wall, and was corrupted. With a sad sigh, he looked regretfully at the bucket with rockets beside him: there were no arrows in it.

No, I can't bear to see him like that...... Grabbing the longbow of one of the archers beside him, Odys pulled a wooden arrow from the quiver behind it, lit it and aimed it at Thomas. However, without the cotton cloth, the flames were quickly extinguished in the air by the wind and snow, and lost their power. After many unsuccessful attempts, the Legion Commander finally gave up and returned the longbow in frustration: it seemed that there was nothing to help him out. If possible, I'd love to send him on his way. "Don't blame yourself, sir. Cautiously handed over the kettle, and the attendant said softly: "If you win this battle, you can cremate him well." ”

"Why should I blame myself?" Glancing at the attendant, Odysse wanted to say a few more words, but he only sighed: the latter sentence he said to him was still a little in line with his opinion, so let this guy who didn't even have time to ask his name be a squire for a few more days.

The rain of arrows is useless against the Corruptors on the Black Ice, those guys are simply invincible...... After thinking painfully for a moment, Odys decisively decided to order the suspension of the arrows to save the archers' physical strength, and carefully observe the movements of the enemy army. Just moments after the order was given, a burst of black-blue light suddenly shone in the darkness in the distance. Its brightness grew higher and higher, and it was incomparably dazzling in the deep darkness of the night. The shape gradually spreads from a small dot to a circular spot

"Look! what's that?" an archer shouted eagerly, staring at the spot of light with a shocked face. This shout drew the attention of many people who had not been paying attention into the distance.

The spot gradually grows larger, and eventually the diameter is as tall as a human person. Just as its light shone to its peak, the dark blue spot suddenly extinguished, and then condensed into the shape of a small ball at the beginning.

The light dimmed for a moment, and a pillar of blue light with a bowl of mouth burst out from the small ball and rushed straight to this side. As if prepared, the Corruptors tacitly dispersed to both sides, making way for the accelerating light waves. After accelerating in less than a second, the speed of the pillar of light was already too fast for the eye to capture, and after approaching a hundred meters, it rushed to the city in an instant.

Violent explosions and the loud clatter of heavy objects rang out at once, and the walls under Odys's feet trembled and stone debris continued to fall. There was a noisy exclamation behind him, and he hurriedly stood up and turned his head to look at the chaotic courtyard: after the iron gate was shaken away by the light wave, it was pushed open dozens of meters and crashed into one of the walls of the barracks. A dozen hapless soldiers were unable to dodge and fell to the ground by the impact of the gates. The few who were still lucky enough to survive continued to let out convulsions and wails of pain, tearing through the silence of the entire outpost. Worse still, however, it wasn't just the floodgates that were blown open. A large area of the city wall around it was blasted open, exposing a gap more than ten meters wide.

Frontal ramparts...... It was so breached! Such a big gap could not be defended by the shield spear formation I used to defend the outpost...... Looking at Zadek as he hurried down the stairs, Odysse felt a pang of vertigo: we would definitely suffer a great loss when it came to a head-on battle with the Corruptor - not only in terms of strength, but also in the trouble of not being able to look directly into the eyes. This was different from the Battle of Snowcastle, where we had a numerical advantage and two Ayers who had been harassing the flanks for us.

With a "boom" in his head, Odys gasped and cast his gaze under the city wall again: the dazzling blue light spots in the distance slowly dissipated, and in the moment before the light completely faded, Odys vaguely glimpsed a figure wearing a black cloak and holding a staff. Just as the figure was once again hidden in the night and snow mist, the black ice on the snowfield quickly dissipated, turning into pitch-black smoke and rising into the sky.

His heart was beating wildly, and Odysse suddenly realized: it seemed that these black ice were all created by him temporarily. The purpose is to ensure that the Corruptors can approach the city and attack easily. Judging by the uniformity and lifelessness of these enemy forces before, they should have been under the unified control of the Black Ice Mage before. The reason for why he did so is unknown—but one thing is for sure, he is still on the battlefield, ready to strike.

In an instant, the Corruptor began to frantically pour into the gap, and the sound of fierce fighting mixed with Zadek's roar suddenly rang out. Looking at the snow field where the black ice had dissipated, Odys took a deep breath, and only one thought remained in his heart: now he could only trust Zadek and the others and command the archers. Backdoors are unlikely to be raided by enemies, so there's no need to be wary either.

"All Ice Rock Archers! Now that your command has been handed over to me, do as I tell you!" Ignoring the burning of his throat, Odys looked at the dozens of enemy troops who had broken through in the courtyard, and roared loudly: "The archers on the top of the barracks and on the East 1st and West 2nd Arrow Towers! Support the allies in the courtyard and shoot freely at the enemy troops who break through the gap! Other archers, prepare to fire a volley at the enemy troops below the city!"

The people of Yongdong carried out this order very efficiently, and the moment the order was given, they neatly set up the bowstring. But the Bingyan people have been executed unevenly one after another. Looking at the lame movements of many of the Children of Frost, Odysse couldn't help but wonder after ordering a volley: Thomas, who had been thrown off the wall before, said that he was on the battlefield for the first time, so could it be that there were many recruits like him in this team?

Speaking of Thomas...... Suddenly remembering that the black ice had disappeared and was eager to help him free, Odysse picked up his longbow and carefully searched for Thomas after shouting another salvo order. However, the Corruptors were huddled together, and there was no place for the soldier in them.
