Chapter 81: A Glimpse of the Truth
The current environment is similar to the hallucinations Faust experienced before, the same tunnel. But this one is much more real — it's almost dark, the air is a little dull, and it smells damp musty, and it's clear that this is not a well-ventilated place.
Faust slowly unfolded his telesentics, trying to see what was going on around him—he had to determine if he was really out of illusion, a practice he had heard of first tricking his enemies with an obvious flaw and then setting up a second, more realistic environment.
But what he saw was even more surprising than the double-layered hallucination...... as well as nausea. The sight was disgusting, that Faust couldn't feel "disgusting" right now, and anyone else would have vomited here.
Just now, the true appearance of this section of the tunnel was finally revealed to Faust. It doesn't look any different from before, but it's a little more shabby. The walls of the cave, which were originally uneven, are now interspersed with plant roots, and there are still signs of insect life. In the central section, there are even traces of extrusion caused by a geological change. In short, it looks like the tunnel looked thousands of years away.
Not only that, but the length of the tunnel is much shorter than before. Its front and back sides no longer extend into the unknown distance, but there is indeed a beginning and an end.
If the environment in the illusion is indeed a description of the tunnel from many years ago, then it must have suffered a great deal of geological damage - the tunnel is now less than thirty feet long, and there is an abyss with a huge drop in front and back.
Faust tentatively reached the edge of the abyss ahead of him, and the terrifying sight awed and fascinated him—beyond the tunnel, there was an endless darkness, so vast that even Faust's remote sensing could not reach its borders.
But what is really frightening is the things that dance in the darkness - in the dark abyss, there is indeed something, and there seems to be some kind of protection on it, making it difficult for Faust to really perceive the concrete face.
But it was undoubtedly something long and soft, like the giant kelp of Faust's homeland, and a little bit of a slender link worm.
They are only about the thickness of an adult's wrist, but they stretch all the way to the bottom of the abyss that Faust can't see, and they look more like hair when taken into proportion.
Faust could see a little clearly, only the tips of these elongated strips. The protective layer seems to be slightly weaker, allowing Faust to discern the material even a little.
He looked closely, and these things did resemble link worms, the same ring-by-ring structure, and he could clearly see the flow of liquid bones in them, but the decoration on them was a bit problematic.
A skull is attached to all tentacles. Faust could not observe many tentacles, but more than 90 percent of them had a skull on their heads.
The dead heads all widened their eyes and stared out into the void without focus, as if they were silently accusing of something.
"More than 90 percent ......," Faust counted silently, and these skulls were dominated by intelligent creatures, including almost all species in the Great Jungle area.
But the main one is the human head, both indigenous and small-town. Obviously, these were the sacrifices that the old chief and the mayor of Marula had offered over the years.
Are these heads, staring at them, waiting for them to die? Faust did not know, except that if he was seen by these heads, which looked like some kind of profane ornament, he would be in great trouble.
That's right, these heads are still alive, and depending on the condition of their lives, they can still be used as part of their eyes. It is not difficult to find this, these creatures with human heads on their bodies do not seem to be intelligent, at least they do not know how to suppress the ripples of mental activity in the spiritual world.
Faust noticed the lilac tentacles—yes, Faust recognized them at first glance, and they were the "intestines" that had caused them to disperse across the regions.
It's just that the ones that devoured them away at that time were much smaller than the one in front of them, and they didn't have a head attached to the tip of the tentacles.
They are clearly some kind of juvenile monsters, lacking both abilities and identities, and not even a single brain. "What the hell are you going to do?" Faust muttered to himself. The demon intestine was obviously under the command of the demon city, and made a great effort to distract Faust and his party.
But why would they do that? Faust couldn't figure it out—if he could send the intestines to move us, he could have killed most of them.
However, the Demon City did not do this, and he mercifully spared everyone, but sentenced them to the punishment of exile - everyone was to be separated.
"What the hell are you going to do? Have you laid out the route for all of us?", Faust didn't know, he couldn't figure out the idea of the magic city - there was so little information that even Faust could not really know the whole thing.
But in any case, now it's time to get past the level of these tentacles.
Faust seemed to be standing outside the range of the heads, and he stood for a long time, and none of the heads floated around, which also gave him great comfort - at least this time, he had a safe zone.
In fact, the tentacles on both sides don't care much about what's in the tunnel, which is weird. This tunnel is almost the only hub of the two huge underground spaces, and it is also a rare place for outsiders to stay. It stands to reason that the tunnels here should be the top priority for security.
Wait, Faust suddenly realized, "How did I get here?" he seemed to figure out something, "and that would explain why the two clusters didn't come together." ”
He smiled wryly and shook his head, "The reason is too simple, there is a third group here......" Before Faust's words landed, there was a uniform vibration sound from the wall.
Faust had heard it, it was the sound of high-speed digging, and it was clear that the monster who was trying to trap him had sensed the change of events and was hurrying back.
Faust didn't have time to think about it, so he retreated to the edge of the cavern, and even stepped out half a foot, staring at the place where the sound came from as if he were on the verge of a great enemy.
Faust will not sit still, he must quickly kill this "demon intestine", and then find a way to return to the surface before proceeding with the next plan. He also thought about not fighting, but the thought that he was facing a "taboo" made him lose his mind about his skills - they won't communicate effectively with you.
