Chapter XVI: Doctrine
"Do you want to have a spell, then?"
Faust's words lingered in the Toad Man's ears like the whispers of the devil, and the old Toad Man forcibly propped up his upper body despite his injuries, "Yes! I am willing! No matter what the cost, as long as I can learn a spell, even the most lame spell, I am willing!"
The old toad was so excited that he used his native language.
Faust pressed the old toad back into place, and continued to smile, "Then as you think, I will let you have spells, but the most important thing now is to rest, when you wake up, maybe you have already learned spells......"
Faust has lurked the power of psionic energy in his language, which is only the most basic use of psychic power, but it is enough to deal with a badly injured old toad.
So the old toad's eyelids became heavier and heavier, and soon he could no longer support it, and fell into a deep sleep.
After letting the old toad sleep, Faust walked out of his living room and into the reading room where he had been.
Faust was not in a hurry to learn the Toad Language, and now he found a way to spread the Legba religion without having to communicate with the Toad People through writing.
He wants Old Toad to become a priest and preach to the Toad People through him - his own image is not very positive among the Toad People, although Old Toad is also a marginalized character, but it is always more intimate than "the demon who attacks the sacred tree".
Faust's idea was to write a missionary pamphlet in the lingua franca of mankind, translate it into toad language according to the dictionary, and then let the old toad believe in Legba and become a priest of the gods, using this pamphlet to preach.
Legba can get the believers, Faust can complete the task, the old toad can learn spells, and all three parties get satisfactory results, this plan is simply perfect. Faust silently praised himself for coming up with such a perfect plan.
Now that it's planned, all that's left is work. First of all, Faust intended to write a missionary pamphlet—not too difficult, of course, and the people to whom he was preaching could not understand the doctrine that was too difficult.
Legba only commanded him to preach, and had no doctrinal mandate – perhaps Legba did not have much knowledge of it – after all, he had known that there was a God in the world for less than a day.
Then, he can only recite one doctrine by himself, and Faust is a little distressed.
Faust leaned back in his chair and looked up at the ceiling with his hands in his pockets, wondering what kind of doctrine he was trying to concoct? Suddenly, his left hand touched a small object in his pocket.
Faust took out his left hand, and in his hand was a twenty-sided dice, which he used to gamble in the old world, but he didn't expect to find it in his pocket now.
Suddenly, Faust had an idea, leaned over and wrote hard.
"Fate, what is fate? Fate is a series of choices that can determine the trajectory of life—it gives you the freedom to choose, and it takes away the path that you don't choose. The so-called fate is a great existence that makes people feel free in bondage. What kind of choices will you make when you face the crossroads of your life, and how will you judge the right and wrong choices you make?"
"Legbar will tell you the answer. The Supreme Legba, the Glorious and the Great, he is the terminator of indecision, the guide of intuition, His Majesty the King at the crossroads, and he will lead you to the right destiny. ”
"The answer of fate is randomness, everything is contained in the great random number, and chance is precisely the greatest necessity in the world! ”
In addition, there are other meaningless religious hymns, such as the list of a hundred names of Legba, each symbolizing a miracle that Legba has performed, or the meaningless fable of chicken soup for the soul, such as the story of a Legba believer who finds happiness by seizing an opportunity.
Faust did not intend to write many and complex doctrines, which would not be of any help to the mission. The teachings of other gods are also often simple – with divine powers, who wants to attract believers with complex teachings?
Faust stopped writing, subconsciously rubbed his temples, and began to search his stomach for some means of preaching—the usual means of displaying miracles, which in the condition of Regba would be difficult to perform.
Then, there were only some unconventional means to be used, and Faust couldn't help grinning, showing a wicked smile, and began to write at his desk.
"If you preach the name of the Supreme Regeba 10,000 times a day, you will receive the gaze of the god Regeba, and if you can preach the name of the Supreme Regeba 100,000 times, you will be blessed by God every day, and if you can do this every day, you will surely ascend to the kingdom of Regba after death and enjoy an adventure that will always be new and exciting. ”
"Whoever preaches the name of Legba to others is destined to ascend to the kingdom of God and enjoy a wonderful life in the kingdom of God as he pleases. ”
"Whoever hears the name of the most glorious and great Legba has planted the seed of conversion in his heart, and when he encounters an opportunity, he will return to the great Legba. Blessed are the Reformed who have heard the mysteries of the world and followed the right teachings, and they will enjoy a higher honor in the kingdom of God than natural believers. ”
Faust wrote about this irresponsible way of proselytizing, after all, his aim was to convert more people, not to build a complete and orderly church.
This crude and irresponsible approach to proselytizing can only create churches large and small, independent of each other—but it has the potential to bring in the largest number of believers.
Faust raised his eyebrows and decided to add a few more, relying solely on mechanical brainwashing, which could not be effectively proselytized.
"All believers in the god Legba must pray to the Great God twice a day in the morning and dusk according to the prayers. The morning prayer is a prayer for a new day to start a new adventure and a stagnant pool of things to turn around, and the evening prayer is to thank God for guiding you to make wonderful decisions. ”
"Whoever believes in the great Legba is not allowed to eat the flesh of a strange hoofed animal, for this meat is spit upon by God, and the eater of this meat is spurned by God. ”
Faust smiled with satisfaction.
Precepts, precepts, and lifestyles are the most direct basis for distinguishing religions, and the lower believers don't care about any doctrines, they just need a small group, a group that identifies themselves through the precepts.
"Give them whatever they want, and that's what success is religion. The so-called responsiveness is nothing more than that. Faust muttered to himself.
Faust wrote down a dozen commandments in one sitting, not just of course, but many of them regulating the way of life of believers, even washing hands after using the toilet.
Soon, Faust had enough to write a thin pamphlet. "The first step of the plan, done. Faust made a proclamation into the air.
The second step of the plan is also underway, and Faust defends the distractions in his heart and silently prays: "Supreme Regeba, Supreme Regba, Supreme Regba, please answer my prayers, let me carry out your teachings and spread your glory." This is followed by a doctrinal pamphlet written by Faust.
As a disciple and apostle of Legba, his prayers were quickly answered.
Legba said that it did not matter what the doctrine was, that it did not matter whether the church was strong or not, that all he wanted was faith, and at the same time praised Faust's diligence and supported and encouraged the missionaries.
Faust said that everything was expected by the wise Regba's mentor, and that he had only made some insignificant achievements according to Regba's guidance, and hoped that Regba would continue to trust him, and that he would do his best to preach and repay Regba's trust.
Faust and Regbar flattered each other in their minds, and they were too addicted to it, and after Legbar retreated for a long time, Faust was still unsatisfied, and he was impassionedly brewing political speeches.
The purpose of the touting was nothing more than to ask for something, and Regba actually made a request to Faust, urging him to preach as soon as possible and gain more believers, and Faust also unequivocally replied that his power was too small to preach effectively, hoping to get some support.
In the end, of course, everyone was happy, Faust was given permission, and Regba was promised by Faust.
Well, it's time.
Faust glanced out the window at the sunset in the west, and walked to the old toad's living room.
