Chapter Seventy-Three: Goodbye, Sanks
The magician Kaliban and last night's thrilling victory made Gwen sleep like a dead man until noon, only to wake up when hunger caused her stomach to contract.
When she opened her eyes and found herself back in an unfamiliar bedroom, there was a brief moment of confusion. Thankfully, the good memories of the old days returned, and she was back in the arms of expensive linen.
After sleeping for a while, Gwen got dressed.
The maid had been retired for a day, so she went to the fridge herself and made herself a cold sandwich with leftovers. Hungry, Gwen swept away the remaining ham and washed the meat with a glass of cranberry juice.
After she finished eating, she found a note for her on the kitchen counter.
"Gwen, I'm going back to the Prince's house. Good luck with your training. Guan and Terry are going to Suriya's house. Grandpa asked me to put you to sleep. We'll be in time for lunch. โ
-Richard
Bite!
Just as Gwen pondered whether to call Richard or Suya, a text spell bloomed in her ears.
It's Alexia.
Gwen recorded this message with her device.
"Hey, Tiger! I just talked to Master. Well done, sister! I can't believe I wasn't home when these horrible things happened! Are you free to catch up today?"
"Ellie!" Gwen gushed yes! I'm free!"
"Great, I really want to see you. Also, your new team member is also with me, do you mind if I bring him?"
"A man?" Gwen paused. She hadn't heard that their new member would be a man. After all, a good team naturally includes Bosh, Ginger, Sports, Baby, and the other No.5s.
"What does he look like?"
"Ha, curious? He's very handsome, personable, and full of dreams. The kind of palpitations that really melt your heart. โ
Gwen smiled, Alicia was too young in her heart.
"He sounds like a magazine model," Gwen retorted, do you think he's a good fit for our team?
"You'll have to come and see," Alexia replied mysteriously, that he was trustworthy. Totally clean. The owner of the Tower of Oakland owed Henry a large sum of money, so he lent us his disciples. For the next six months, you girls must behave well. โ
"Oh?" Gwen was very interested right now. An exchange student from another city, another country!"I'll be here soon, where would you like to have lunch?"
"How are you feeling?"
"Sushi?" Gwen said the first thing that came to her mind. She had already eaten the remaining quarter of the ham, but she was confident that the seafood would not get in the way of her hungry body. After all, meat is digested in one stomach, seafood is digested in another, and dessert is placed in the appendix, which is the spare stomach of the maidens. Everyone knows this.
"Great, see you Pimont, we'll meet at Socchio's house. I'll find us a table. โ
Alicia hung up, and Gwen was impressed. Even she had heard of the most expensive sashimi bar in Sydney. Gwen had a vague memory of her mother's gift, but she only remembered eating cheap things, like tacos. From memory, she recalled, the Socchio restaurant was fully booked weeks in advance, how could Alesia hope for three on the first day of the new year?
Gwen looked at herself in the kitchen splashing mirror. She didn't want to change her clothes, but Alicia never showed up anywhere without getting dressed.
The clock shows eleven o'clock.
Gwen changes into an unbranded, long-sleeved dress she found in a rural town. The fabric was coarse, but the cut was neat and simple, there were only 40 denim, but Gwen was confident that she wore it like fashion.
She set out from Kiribili and crossed the bay by a transit boat, noticing the public.
This time, thanks to the Noemes' distancing, the journey was successfully completed.
It was the aura she now carried, Henry said, something that the High Magicians had gained after years of dedication to their craft. When the caster's astral souls tuned into their elementals, they assumed the quirks and traits of said elements, becoming similar to half-humans. When in public, especially among non-wizards, non-magical humans inherently understand that there is a creature capable of crushing them like a pest.
It's a good fit for Gwen, and if someone touches her again, the ferry might sink.
Some distance away, Gwen is happy to find that little has changed from Pimont Pier and her old world. A series of fine dining restaurants have been transformed into a series of opulent fine warehouses. As it was the first day of the new year, it was another Friday, and customers of Alesia's favorite fine dining restaurant poured onto the sidewalks.
Gwen cautiously approached the foreman and watched the woman's eyes scan her, from cotton clothes to leather shoes.
"Hello, I have a room booked under Bebotton?"
Madame glanced through her notebook.
"I have no appointment under Miss Bolton. There was an invisible smile on the foreman's ruby lips, and besides, I'm afraid our lunch time was already full. โ
Gwen blinked.
Don't make a reservation?
Gwen stepped back, finding a comfortable position under the blackout cloth and waiting. The cork heel of her sandals was uncomfortably biting her ankles. "Cheap is cheap," Gwen sighed. She can't afford magic shoes right now.
Thankfully, she didn't wait long for Alesia.
On the scorching retina, Gwen sees a figure passing through the crowd.
Alessia de Botton was as radiant as ever, and her striking appearance was accentuated by her dark makeup. Soon, she put on a long flowing red dress that wrapped around her peerless figure. She walked as she walked, her dark brown hair bouncy and curled, her tanned legs peeking out in the middle of the scarlet chiffon.
Next to Alicia, stepped on an iron giant.
Gwen doesn't use the word giant lightly, as the young people around her can only be described as Brobding Nagy. The mage was Mฤori, and the Tamoko emblems on his nose and cheeks indicate his cultural roots. A piece of green jade hung from his muscular neck, dangling from a length of rope. Around his torso, a tight black T-shirt barely restrained his chiseled chest and shoulders.
O gods!, Gwen heard herself. The boy had been out of strength for days. When the two approached, the crowd parted, like the Red Sea in front of Moses, the Third Wise Men of the East.
"Gwynnie!" Alexia took the last few steps toward her, filling Gwen's body with energy. Gwen also put her arm around Alessia, wrapping her pretty dress in soft folds. "God, since I saw you for the last time, it has felt like a lifetime. โ
"Yes, isn't it?"
Alicia hugged Gwen tightly, like a hen spreading her wings to a long-lost chick.
Finally, Alicia took a step back and introduced the 7-foot-tall giant.
"This is Waitu Tikiti Ottaranga, your new renunciation. Greetings to Gwen Song, the youngest future mage on this side of the Coral Sea. โ
"Giaola, Gwen Song!" Huitu greeted her. To Gwen's surprise, the young man's voice was gentle and pleasant.
"Nice to meet you, how am I right?"
"Ah, you made it very clear. "Ritu's dark eyes glanced at his teammates, you are so pretty, I raised some when I was very pretty, but all the eggs in yew are blue. โ
"Oh, great, thank you, Ritu," Gwen replied. The young man was polite and didn't roll his eyes at all.
They shook hands, and his hand swallowed her white fingers.
"You... See what he's talking about?" Alexia's expression was shocked.
"Wow, are you using stones? I don't understand a word. โ
"Give me one time, miss. "How about Vitu fiddling with a jade earring?"
"Much better!" Alexia patted him on the shoulder. "Let's not have another pug sandwich incident, shall we?"
Gwen laughed, can't the people here understand the kiwi accent? Is it because these cities are geographically and socially isolated?
"On the journey, Ritu asked for 'Sex Chicken' and then 'a bad bag of hot bread'. We were almost chased out by the old lady in the ferry canteen. โ
"No!" Gwen went crazy. He asked for six fish cocktails, followed by a pack of hot chicken wings. โ
"Do you understand?" Alexia's blue eyes were the size of almonds. "You're not wearing a translation stone, are you?"
"You can't?" Gwen asked, surprised, they were part of the Strange Man!
"That's pejorative, Miss Gwen," said Waitu, "the Kiwi people are the holy and benevolent spirit of the land, and many of our tribes regard them as masters of the land. I'm one of those families, and we always speak of them with respect. โ
"I'm sorry, Ritu," Gwen apologized sweetly, and if Ellie could let us in, then I'd be yelling. Have you ever eaten sashimi before?"
"Miss, I don't need much money myself, but I'll take you to your company. โ
Across the sidewalk, Alessia walked towards the maรฎtre, who had been staring at the trio of eye-catching trios.
"Three seats," Alicia asked in a tone that indicated that the sky was blue. โ
The foreman was clearly starting to sweat. Alicia is a powerful mage, perhaps one of the best battle mages in Sydney. Even if she didn't take a stand, the aura she exuded was palpable.
Thankfully, a passing floor manager knew his VIP list inside and out, and even if he didn't recognize Alexia's face, he could recognize the reddish-brown air and burning skirt.
"Master Bolton!" he jumped down the stairs in twos and threes, and rushed across the hall toward the podium. "Thank you for humbling our agency. โ
The foreman stared at her manager carefully and curiously.
"Sophie is new here. "We're sorry," the manager happily scolded Sophie, the junior managerโapologizing to Miss de Botton and taking them to the third floor, the suite with a sea view. โ
Sophie bowed dashingly and bowed down to accept my apology, Miss de Botton. Please go this way. โ
Alicia motioned for the other two to go with her. The crowd waiting in line said nothing.
Gwen was conflicted. She was still a little haunted by the differential treatment of those who were privileged. Presumably, once she was famous enough, she would be held in the same respect, but the thought of doing what Alesia had done made her creepy grows.
The three of them sat in a spacious private room.
Outside is a view of the harbour as seagulls wrestle with the vertiginous heat of Sydney summer. The weather is getting hotter every year, and the news says this has led to an increase in mermaid activity along the coast.
The Japanese chef said with a thick accent: "Annata has no Tennessee, no tame Ni." โใ
The chef takes a struggling red snapper out of the brine tank and nails it to a cutting board. It swallowed the air and screamed silently in its mouth. The fish was rare and the chef made them a fillet to reassure them. Once plated, its crystal clear flesh lay like white jade, on a bed of enchanted ice.
"It's a nasty country. "Vitu is not happy to say what have they done to this poor Foss, why is it still moving?"
"This is to keep the meat fresh and the mana intact. "Alicia slipped a chopstick into one slice and carefully dipped it in the panzu sauce Oh my God, I remembered. It's beautiful. โ
Gwen likewise forked a large chunk with a fork. She knows that fish don't show the same pain as humans do, and this comforts her conscience.
Watching the girls eat, Huitu finally tasted a piece.
"It tasted like I saw it. He sighed poor Foss. โ
When the fish finally stopped the pain of dying, Vitu's nostrils opened. Gwen sensed the big man's uneasiness and boldly asked him questions.
"So, can you tell me a little bit about yourself?"
"Miss Shure. "He sat on the small stool as comfortable as he could.
"Please, Vitu, Gwen is fine. โ
"Well, Gwen, what do you want to know?"
"Where are you from?"
Auckland, the east coast of the North Island. My people originated in the hot springs near Turangi in the south. Merfolk assault on Rotorua. Dad moved us from the mountains to the city, where I attended high school. โ
"I'm sad to hear that. Is your family safe?" Gwen asked sympathetically, patting him on the knee.
"Most of us survived, and that's good enough. "Ritu shrugged his shoulders unrelentingly, shaking one leg reflexively, and we left Rotorua, more than two thousand people, and about three-quarters of them succeeded. โ
"How old are you, Ritto?"
"Just like you, the sex teenager of the Western teenager. โ
"You're tall!" Gwen exclaimed, are all of you so strong?
"My brother is taller than me. Huitu smiled, and his tattoo moved.
"How many siblings do you have?"
"Four, three," he replied.
"Oh, I'm sad to hear that. Gwen was taken aback by his frankness. If Sydney, with its millions of souls, was seen as the frontier of the first-tier cities, she couldn't imagine how Wellington or Auckland had survived the demihuman invasion.
The chef reappears with a glass jar filled with writhing squid. Gwen watched in horror as a colorful cephalopod unfolded on the chopping board. The chef deftly drank it down and removed its monobony plate. Finally, the squid, which is still alive, is placed on a small bowl of delicate rice and oozes out as it dances, drawing a rainbow.
"It's so pretty, look at that," Alicia muttered that I love the dish, rainbow dancing squid. โ
Gwen and Wittu silently watched as the other two bowls of rainbow squid collected their bodies. After the performance, he pointed to a small spoonful of mustard and made a motion to pour it over the squid.
"Tano Shankuda Sai!"
"Come on!" said Alexia, expectant and happy. She carefully picked up the teaspoon and poured it over the squid. Where the rainbow had faded, it was now a rainbow of colors, enveloping the air with a blazing spray of colors before starting to "dance".
"It's four HDM crystals per tee, you know," Alexia looked like she was enjoying her life. She waited until the squid had exhausted its last vigor before mixing it with rice and tasting it with heavenly joy.
Gwen looked at Ritu, his face pale and uneasy.
"I think we'd better dig in, wow, that's a person's weekly salary, and it's even more rude to let it suffer for no reason. โ
Vitu nodded, splashed the squid into his mouth, and swallowed it without chewing.
Gwen tossed the squid in a bowl and then added a charming sauce and was not happy about this horrific display.
It tasted like that, but she felt that the energy contained in it was unlike anything she had ever experienced. The squid bowl is like a sip of Sofina's mead. Foods like this are the reason why wealthy mages have better health and larger mana pools.
Gwen and Wittu sat with mixed feelings and ate the rest of the meal, watching the same chef slaughter a barbed octopus, a jewel-like abalone, and then a living rascal the size of her arm.
Ritu protested against each dish, shoved each dish into his mouth, swallowed it in one gulp without tasting it.
Alexia looks regular and tastes every dish.
Gwen ate silently, guiltily absorbing the energy. When a live eel was roasted on hot coals, she ended up eating Ritu's portion, on the grounds that it was blasphemous to torture a sacred river god. Alicia is very fond of eels. As for Gwen, she didn't dare admit that she had chosen sushi.
"So, what are your abilities, Ritto?" Gwen changed the subject.
"I am a person who does not plead guilty. "Rittal is pointing to the greenstone necklace that hangs around his neck with one finger, and I specialize in DI companies. โ
Gwen leaned closer.
The greenstone sparkled. When Tu Youyou activates his talent, the stone turns into a stylized fish hook.
"Wow!" Gwen made a double choice. "Is that a mineral or a stone?"
"It's the Panamo that their people worship, an emerald that," Alessia interjected, saying that its physical and elemental resistance were above average. With Huitu, your team will definitely improve. โ
"I'll definitely thank that person later. Gwen grinned confidently. If Alesia is impressed by Vetu's character, it means that he is special.
The Japanese chef is back.
One by one, he thanked the diners for their patronage and gave them a New Year's gift from the restaurant, a slice of imported Shizuoka melon, the sweet flesh of which exudes fragrance and magic.
The three of them savored the moment, crushing the crispy melon with their mouths, feeling its energy permeate their bodies.
"It's incredible. I feel like a Verjun again," Ritu said.
"I'm sure you're still a virgin, tiger, at least from what your master told me. Alicia snickered and said, though, there are plenty of opportunities, and your new team is all girls โ pretty, pretty, unmarried girls. โ
"Cute ass. Huitu swallowed his melon and gave it a thumbs up. The tattoo on his mouth is a bit like the impressive beard in a restaurant vibe, making him look much older than he was when he was a child.
"Do you want to take him back?"
"Of course, are we going to resume training from school?"
"Of course, tiger, you can't represent the black acacia tree without training in its facilities. Once you pass the preliminaries, the school will also be your base. You have to play home games there and away games at other schools. โ
"How's the sports game?" asked Gwen. A note from her master mentions an arena.
"This is for the top 8 in the region. Now that Huitu is here, are we ambitious?"
"Ah, yes. Gwen made a note to do more homework as soon as possible. How can anyone know anything in a world without Google?
