Section B Chapter 4: The Frozen Wasteland (Cyberdart)
The thirteenth world of the World Tree.
Frozen Wasteland.
With his left arm against the cold wind and snowflakes that hit his face, Sebodat struggled to move his boots in the heavy snow. The environment was so dim and obscure from the snow and fog that he had to stop and use a map to find his way.
How long have you been walking in this snowy field...... Confused by the brief sunrise of a few hours a day, Cyberdart muttered to himself: he thought it had been twenty days.
At first he didn't expect to go that far in the frozen wasteland—he thought it would be a ten-day trip at best. It turned out that he had thought too little of this endless wasteland.
But as he went deeper, the more reluctant he became to give up. As a traveler, he was reluctant to turn back on the journey he had already embarked on.
I don't know what happened to Lusa...... Sebodat was still a little worried: it would be nice if I could summon Nalo to Lusa's side with the initiative so that I could see how she was doing every day.
On the third day after Lutha fainted, Cyberdat left Neverwinter - in those three days he had earned enough money to buy supplies at the casino. However, since his departure, he has struggled to make up his mind not to think about Lusa, who fell into a coma after the sigil glows.
If possible, I really want to stay with the two of them...... Cyberdat was helpless: If only I were not afraid of curses like Lucina.
When we first started our journey to the Frozen Wasteland, the weather was still normal – heavy snow and fog every day, accompanied by never-ending polar winds.
From more than ten days ago until yesterday noon, it was a snow-free day that was easy to walk - and yet, since yesterday noon, the weather has become extremely bad, and even the gloomy feeling is a little chilling.
Winter's Breath...... From yesterday to now, Cyberdart had been a little uneasy: he had always felt that Lusa's fainting had something to do with the Bachelor's warning them to leave—it was probably the person who had eavesdropped on the conversation by somehow to put Lusha in a coma in order to prevent her from leaving.
Should I stay there...... Even if you live far away from them. Once again, Sebodat doubts his decision: besides, if the prophesied end is imminent, Lusa and the others should not stay there anyway.
Whether Lusha herself wants to stay there or not, no one knows. She fainted before she could say anything - if it was someone's doing, then there really was...... In this way, Lucina will not and cannot take the unconscious Lusa out of the Frozen Land. It is equivalent to the two of them being forcibly stayed.
Crossing a snowy mound again, Cyberdat searched for signs around him: a large rock shaped like a giant was faintly visible in front of him, though it was very vague.
Ben was worried about whether he had gone in the wrong direction during the two days when visibility was extremely low, but that was fine...... Relieved, Sebodat stopped and pulled the map out of his coat.
Unfolding the rolled up map, Cyberdat stretched it out with all his might: the map on the eagle skin stiffened by the cold temperature.
Stretching out the map, the light that channeled mana from his right fingertip, the elf carefully discerned his own position—to his relief and excitement, he was already approaching the frozen armies of Eurasia. According to the rumors he had heard, they could be overlooked from the cliffs about a mile west of the rock.
But I'm not going to just look around...... Saiboydat put the map back in and braved the wind to keep going: I was going to take a shortcut down to the bottom of the cliff and get a closer look at the rumored ice sculptures - and then head straight west, out of the Frozen Wasteland and into the Sacred Grove.
Once you enter the Divine Wood Forest, there will be no such harsh environment...... He thought: When the time comes, I can go south out of the Divine Tree Forest and go to the relatively warm south of the continent. By planning again.
Involuntarily, Cyberdat was worried about the coming of Winter's Breath: he couldn't help but associate the strange weather of the past two days with it. Adding to his anxiety was the connection between the frozen wasteland and the dark glacier.
Luckily, I haven't touched the black ice yet...... To be on the safe side, the cautious Cyberdat started out by trying to get as far away as possible from the dark glaciers to the north: legend has it that the black ice spread from the dark glaciers, so as long as you stay away from that area, there is no risk.
But is it really risky? He had always been skeptical about it: because according to the map, the location of the Eurasian army was obviously far away from the dark glacier - could it be that it was already covered by black ice?
Master Konadia said that he had been in close contact with ice sculptures, so there should be no black ice - could it be that the breath of the dragon god really had the ability to purify the black ice? But this time the dragon god will not be resurrected, how can people purify the snow that has been corroded by black ice......
Thinking of the fifteenth world of the World Tree, destroyed by the cursed blood of the Blood Moon, Cyberdart became increasingly anxious: many worlds would have their own end, and almost all of them would be shattered in the Holocaust and reborn—new life would be born in the dead land.
Quickening his pace, Sebodat looked up and looked at the increasingly large stone statue: it looked like a real giant petrified.
Seeing the cliff that was not far away, Cyberdat sped up again - the direction he was traveling was no longer a headwind.
Finally reaching the edge of the cliff, the elf looked at the bottom of the cliff filled with the sound of howling wind, and found that it was completely impossible to see the landscape below: darkness and snow and fog merged to completely envelop the view at the bottom of the cliff.
Channeling the elemental energy in his right palm, Nalor flew out of a burst of green light a moment later and stopped on the elf's shoulder.
"Fly down, Nalo......" Sebodat inwardly commanded it.
Nalo shouted a few times in protest.
"I know it's windy...... So, I'll possess you in a moment, how about I'll fly?" proposed Cyberdart.
Nalor seemed to reluctantly accept, and it jumped over its shoulders and slowly hovered in midair.
"That'...... Get ready, Nalo. ”
In response, Cyberdat closed his eyes: a gray and hazy mist gradually grew in the black background in front of him.
Constantly concentrate your mental energy and feel the flow of natural energy. Cyberdat calmed his breath.
The dim surroundings became clearer and clearer, and after a few moments, the scenery of the frozen wasteland was subtly presented from Nalo's bird's-eye view—at night, the scene reflected by the owl's night vision gave Cyberdat a unique beauty.
As a result of years of fit, Cyberdat is also accustomed to Nallo's body - except for one thing, the owl's eyeballs can barely move. The constant need to twist his neck has kept him from adapting well.
The fog is so big, you have to fly a little lower to see below...... Flapping his wings, he felt the strong resistance of the airflow, and swooped cautiously and slowly close to the cliff: this would allow him to fly close to the edge and reduce the obstruction of the adverse wind again.
Seems to be able to see something...... Cyberdat noticed the ice sculpture looming out of the snow mist: just fly to the bottom of the cliff and transfer your body over.
Before he could hit the ground, however, Cyberdat sensed something was amiss—something was falling from the sky at a rapid pace.
As the thing passed by, the elf was shocked to discover what it was—his own defenseless body.
